I installed my 9800X3D in the original NR200 case with a Noctua NH-U12A and 4080 GPU. Managed a stable negative 35mv undervolt. Temps topped out at 70 degrees in cinebench, scoring a 1% higher score than stock. Average temps while gaming at 4K are in the mid 50s. Fantastic CPU and super quiet build.
@@ryibiru 90mm rear intake. Two 120mm top exhaust. No room for GPU intake fans since the 4080 is quite beefy. I've got both the CPU and GPU undervolted, and the case fans rarely exceed 1300 RPM.
Really glad to see you try the Thermalright AXP90-X47 Full Copper, there's been considerable discussion about it vs the Noctua's in the Terra. One side noting that the way the Noctua's fan (underneath) the fins reduce noise better than the x47's smaller size, and more space from the side panels do. While there will be a limit in GPU options using the Noctua, I would rather have less fan noise and better overall performance. Good work!
This video finally solves my sff questions , cases like terra might be super compact..but cooling isn't as good as that of nr200 ncase M2 , making the perfect sff size to be 17 - 20 litres. The coming ncase M2 168 will be a banger, more parts compatibility. Thanks for this video.
I put mine on a Fractal Ridge bring cooled by a Thermalright AXP120-X67. Never got over 76C in a 10min Cinebench R23 run. Dialed in -30 all core and it's stable with lower temps in gaming. This chip is unbelievable.
After checking if this was an anomaly, it looks like the motherboard somehow has the default Tjmax set to 75 instead of 95. HWiNFO was not reporting throttling so I thought it was that good. The good news is, that's only in synthetic workloads. Gaming is still pulling low temps even in heavy CPU titles. Still good!
I bought the Terra for aesthetics purposes but really wish I had done a bit more research on it before as the thermals get pretty wild even when gaming. I put a 120 fan above the psu to help with GPU and any additional heat in the case which helped a bit but the CPU chamber still suffers from a lot of heat.
NR200 with 140mm fan’s on top: a cool benefit by upgrading the NR200 with the top parts of NR200 v2 is that because of the new top design you can have two 140mm fans instead of the 120mm.
I'm running the setup with an ASUS X870-I on the Terra case. I mounted the Thermalright AXP120-X67 tightly against the side panel grills because I had to set the spine to position 3 to accommodate the EVGA 3080 Ti FTW. I've undervolted the system with a -30 curve, and it runs perfectly, rarely exceeding 71°C under load. It's very quiet and performs exceptionally well. I also have a Noctua NH-L12Sx77, but I couldn't test it due to the current constraints. I might give it a try in the future if I switch to a slimmer GPU. For now, I'm waiting on the 5000 series to decide on my next steps.
Hey I'm very curious, if you had that fractal terra run an all core workload with both of the side panels off do you think it would make any meaningful difference? Would it maybe be closer to normal boosts? Very close?
what about custom water cool such sff cases ? Is it not the best cooling solution cuz u can watercool ur cpu and even ur gpu ? it should be quieter and you could use more powerfull hardware aswell ?
i only ever see axp90 full copper or axp120 being mentioned when it comes to thermalright (in the comments atleast) is the axp100 full copper not a consideration?

about a week away from doing a 9800x3d build for cpu-bottlenecked VR. going to start with the tiny Thermalright Silver Soul 110 and see if i need to bump it up to a Deepcool AK620.
nh-d12L fits, but it's triple the price of the PA120 mini while offering similar performance. Although it's much nicer looking and quieter so I'm debating getting it.
Would you be able to provide the motherboard heat sink heights for some of the AM5 itx boards? I haven't been able to find the dimensions anywhere. Thinking about converting an AXP90 to a 120mm fan to provide some additional cooling to other components.
I know the deepcool ch160 is on the bigger side in terms of sff, but I'm curious what temps you'd get in that. Either way, thanks for the detailed no nonsense video, really enjoyable
I would also argue that they could also have been a bit longer to accommodate the largest GPU's possible so you can upgrade your GPU without having to buy a whole new case
To be fair the Nr200 doesn't need that much because it can already fit a thermalright PS120... maybe thinning the back frame where the side braquet go so you can fit a 120mm fan on the left of the cooler for intake!
@@Glufish I have an M2 but if it were like 10mm wider, it might be worth if. If it could fit the PS120SE and fit the 4090 a bit easier, idk. I already run this config and it’s fine so maybe I like it at its current size more, just required a silicone cable for the gpu.
@ interesting, i was wondering if it were a better option. I am currently about to build in this case and was torn between which cooler to purchase. I wonder if those noctua foam ducts would lessen the turbulence noice?
Need to compare with formd T1, maybe with 2 top exhaust Fans,(2x phantakes30, for example) temps will be 10 degrees lower. And T1 allow to equip water cooling
I might check it out at some point. That being said for the price and chipset positioning, the rear IO looks super basic, I'd expect even X850 I to have more ports than that, so it seems a bit disappointing in that regard.
Is there a low profile cooler that you would recommend for a 9 5900X or am I limited to using AIO, my case is the Meshroom V2 which has a height limit of 74mm for air coolers. T1 with dual exhaust and similar air cooler setup is going to be a bit better than the Terra but the big thing there is the ability to do a 240 (even though one fan has to be slim it’s still a huge step up from a smaller air cooler).
How's the Thermalright AXP90 X47 handling the cooling of the 7800x3d? considering using the Thermalright AXP90 X53 with a noctua fan with a 2.5slot asus prime/proart 4070 super
I've tested this as well, works well considering the size. Although with a 2.5 slot card you could go bigger on the cooler ala IS-67 or AXP-120 x67, both would be a big improvement noise wise due to the larger 120mm fan.
@MachinesMore The bigger 120m. Fan would be quieter than the 92mm fan? Would the 67mm tall cooler leave enough room to not have the turbulent air noise?
