RIP Wolfgang Rihm. He was admittedly a composer I somehow didn't know about, but listening to his works, they are fantastically full of energy; this piece is a blast
R.I.P. maestro Rihm. What a fantastically exciting piece, executed with the greatest skill and originality. The pacing is just beautiful - zero slack, constant focus. Thanks very much Cmaj7.
Maintaining such a high level of energy over such a quite long duration is really hard to do. An amazing, excessive piece, and at the same time very economically written.
This is an excerpt from his ballet "Tutuguri", which is not economical at all. The piece lasts over 2 hours and the first 80 minutes are written for a full orchestra with an enormous array of percussion. The rest of the work is scored only for 6 percussionists and pre-recorded chorus.
In order to produce a Wolfgang Rihm, you need someone willing and able to sit in a room by themselves day after day, year upon year, for decades, writing music with extremely few distractions. I do not believe these conditions are possible any more, for most creative people; hence I would not expect to see another such figure any time soon.
Bogusław Schaeffer wrote about Rihm in his book 'Composer's of 20th century' that "Rihm is a perfect example of European composer that is famous without good reason"... I personally believe that his emotions took primary place while writing this essay, I simply disagree. Rihm was amazing composer. I really hope that there will be more scorevideos of his works in the future (personaly I am really waiting to see his ballet Tutuguri). R.I.P.
@@m3r3l3j I understand. Just out of curiosity, which pieces have you played? I need actually to say honestly though, that his piano pieces are not such treasures...
@@B-eSCH I've played some of Modelles, Mazurkas and Short Pieces. If you'd give me some suggestions as which works of his I should definitely check out, I'm ready to give his music a second chance.

Right.
RIP Rihm. His Klavierstuck 7 gave me a new perspective on contemporary music.
RIP Wolfgang Rihm. Sad news. Truly a great composer.
Rest in peace to one of the greatest composers of our time
RIP maestro. I hope to see more scores-videos of him on RUclips. His string quartets in particular are so wonderful!
Yet another wonderful upload. RIP Maestro Rihm.

Play this for someone with a hangover. They'll thank you later. Then again maybe not.

Mr Schaeffer himself was, with all due respect to him as a music theorist, a very mediocre composer. RIP Rihm, he was definitely one of the greats.
@@m3r3l3j That's not true. People can only think so because there are almost no good recordings and performances of Schaeffers music.
@@B-eSCH Well I've played a lot of his music (never recorded though) so just take it as my personal opinion;)

The first section would be an awesome orchestra part for an epic violin concerto.
