- Gorgeous performance by the 'Texas Songbird' of the traditional Texas song first transcribed by John Lomax in 1909. From the 1963 UK folk and R&B TV series Hullabaloo, with guitarist Davey Graham.
Carolyn Hester was a key part of the 1960's Greenwich Village folk scene. Bob Dylan made his first recorded appearance playing harmonica on Carolyn's 3rd album in 1961.

Imagine that, imagine being able to listen to the wonderful Carolyn Hester doing Dink's Song live in 1963. She was the FIRST of the female folksingers to come out of the Village, maybe the first of the female singers of the folk song revival, maybe the first of all solo performers to release folk albums- before 1960 and before Bob Dylan. Thank you for making this available to us!
Still singing! awesome!
Remember the 47 Club in Cambridge - an angel!
Lovely voice, so strong and expressive with great delivery.
This is my first time hearing her. Two seconds in, and I was already choking back tears of joy. I was nine years old when this performance was recorded. I'm here because I was reading about Mary Travers.
I'm here because she's mentioned in a novel by Nanci Griffith, another tremendous country-folksinger.
Magical
