I am guessing that you either don't get out much or you're deaf and musically inept....BUT! To your defense, music is a very subjective discipline and if you think he is the best drummer ever, then he is absolutely that.

And we are very lucky for man has done an absolutely great job in creating so many categories, classifications, fusions between different genres and a plethora of artistical variations thereof. As a musician since I was 6 years old and I am 61 and still playing out, I have been blessed by meeting, learning from people that I will never see that pinnacle. But it is impossible to rate "The Best" That does not exist because music is created for the individual. What I think is the best you may hate. And so it goes with the likes of Rolling Stone magazine printing the best list every year and it is nothing but nonsensical verbiage that means opinion not ability. Way too subjective to categorize. I met both Leslie West and Corky Laing, and can say unequivocally that Corky was by far the friendlier of the two--which isn't saying a lot in itself, since West acted like he didn't give a shit. It totally pissed me off that someone whose playing I'd been such a hardcore fan of acted like such a dick. I still love West's work, but don't care much for the man personally.
Corky's book Letters to Sarah tries to be nice about Leslie but LW's bad attitude comes across in many stories. Sigh. Maybe a strong personality correlates with an abrasive personality.
I had the same experience with Leslie West. He and Corky were playing with Richie Scarlett at the time (2005). Richie was great. We talked about the New York Yankees and he was a regular guy. Leslie was down right nasty.

I can't say he was "the best" for me, but he was certainly one of my favorites. I loved his style of drumming.
