USGA submittal statement The USGA team tested Straight Shotz. They said they liked the putter and that it was much easier to putt with. They said they were able to allow certain players to use it if they wanted to. But, they said that as of now it is "Non-Conforming" because of the "Shaft Angle Rule." They said that the inventor could come meet with them and make his case with them.
So I was horrible at putting .. and always said I wish I had a pool stick .... when I saw this putter for the first time I bought it immediately... it has helped me alot, it's tough for long putts, but within 10 feet it has helped greatly.. . It works. Everyone I play with always wants to try it. But yet it is still embarrassing..lol.. but I love it
The $ 39.99 version of this is a China knock off which might have one little problem that being that the shaft could come out of the head once in a while .........You know the old saying " You get what you pay for " .........
USGA Rule ‘19: Alignment ii: the projection of the straight part of the shaft on to the vertical plane along the intended line of play must not diverge from the vertical by more than 20 degrees forwards or 10 degrees backwards (see Fig. 6). This is to address/ban shuffle board style putting.
@@frankzayas3103 So it's more than 10 degrees backwards (approx 45 degrees). It also violates Alignment I: it cannot be more than 80* upright (measured angle from ground to shaft) along the line of the putt (this one is 90* upright). So this putter violates a couple constraints (not just one).
@Frank Zayas It’s just saying your shaft can’t tilt off vertical. More than 10 degrees back or 20 forward. So your putter is vertical to the grounds horizontal. Making a 90 degree angle. And 10 and 20 degrees is the allowed deviation. So where this putter is angled 45 degrees it would be illegal.
I don't think that motion is considered a stroke. Just as you cannot use a pool cue. Although, that is the only way to hit a golf ball with a truly straight linear path.
We need a Mr. Short Game video where you talk about the toughest greens and how to survive them. Tips for going to a course with greens with super subtle undulations, and high stimps?
I can see the benefit of it over a traditional .Looks like you should be able to get it online a lot easier But $250 for it is crazy. You can go to lowes or some places and buy a plastic block and drill a hole in and take an old shaft and cut an angle tip and epoxy it together. If you had a 3Dprinter you could definitely make it
I could see this being deadly from 6ft in. I have no idea if it’s conforming equipment, but I’m wondering if the gliding on the green part could be a rules issue, especially when or if you take a practice stroke. Are you knowingly testing the playing surface by executing a practice stroke while gliding it on the putting surface? Who knows! Everyday I’m Shufflin’!
If you remember, when Sam Snead started using the side saddle stroke and it was effective, the PGA or USGA decided it was illegal. With that in mind, I would not purchase one of these unless or until there was a ruling on legality. For those of us who carry less than 14 clubs, this would be excellent for those 6 ft and under putts, as it appears to be very accurate on short putts.
There is already a rule and this putter is deemed illegal. Rules of Equipment 2.1d - hell, the rule in question has a ton of illustrations and specifically states that the "rule exists to disallow ... Shuffleboard style putters". A putter's shaft angle may not diverge more than 10° backwards. This looks to be between 45 and 60.
@@2Eaglez I'm glad to help - I'm still learning but this putter became a hot topic recently thanks to Rick Shiels, and Golf Rules Questions. I profusely apologise if my reply came off as snarky (which wasn't my intention to what I perceived yours to be a genuine question). In researching this putter's legality I learnt a lot myself. It's not legal, but if I was partnered with another player with genuine perceptible difficulties, I would not take umbrage to the use thereof - competition of course, is a different story. I hope you have a wonderful day!
As always, love the video but had a small problem on this one, possibly big problem. My wife happened to be watching and said, "We need to redo our kitchen like that." When I pointed out that our kitchen lay out was not like that one, she said, "Well, we've been thinking about moving anyway." Great video, as always Matt.
That’s one crazy club!! It’s funny that you said you can just look at the hole. I’ve been using that technique since 2018, i had a stroke back in 2017 so I was getting the yips every time in my back stroke focusing on the ball and club path while putting. Now that I only look at the hole It’s changed everything. I’m a better golfer post stroke because it’s slowed everything down, and taught me how to stay composed. I use the standard putter though 😂
Eric W i tried other out for a bit then went back to ole faithful. I was hitting them too hot. Perfect end over end roll, I just couldn’t find the stroke with it
I did go to look at their website and watched some of the videos, as I use a side saddle putter I can tell you the way they were demonstrating it was illegal, if you take the intended start line of your putt and extend that line beyond your ball you are not allowed to stand on, or straddle that line.
I love quirky golf products and used to use a side saddle putter for a couple years, but this is just bizarre. I want to play 18 with someone who uses this though; I'll be happy to give them a few strokes per side
😲. OMG... Please send this to Rick Shiels. I'd love to see his reaction to this.😂 Never seen anything like this.🤦 I understand why you didn't ask anyone around the practice green to check it out and give their opinion. 🤔
Matt, it was great meeting you while you were making this video! You definitely got a lot of strange looks from everyone on the putting green with that putter. Keep up the great work.
Unless the head is > 7” wide and, as you said, you’re not straddling the line (First, if your ball is off the putting green, the answer is yes you may stand directly behind the ball with your feet straddling or standing on an extension of the line of putt behind the ball while making a stroke. No problem as this Rule only applies on the putting green. Second, if your ball is on the putting green, you may not make a stroke at the ball with your feet astride or standing on the line of putt or an extension of the line of putt behind the ball (loss of hole in match play or two strokes in stroke play). Finally, side saddle is OK anytime. But just to make it a little more difficult, the Rules require that the angle of the shaft of a putter must diverge at least 10 degrees from the vertical so that you effectively cannot use a croquet mallet. That makes it much more difficult.) this very much could be legal. Just my opinion.
Illegal, the rule that would be breached is Rule 14-1 that says in part the club can’t be pushed, spooned and scraped. Pushed and spooned don’t apply here, but scraped here basically means you are intentionally dragging or pulling the club along the ground before it hits the ball, which is what he does. Same as the James Lepp sauce chip ruling.
The stroke is legal side saddle was accepted USGA.. The putter shaft is not ..So when you epoxied the shaft, they didn't do the infraction you did.. The angle angle of the shaft is regulated. !!
What 4th dimension of hell did that putter come from!! Shuffle board and golf combined? Lmao!!! What a great video, love these crazy product reviews you do...
What will they come up with next ?! Whatever gets you on the course I guess lol . Where do you find this stuff Matt? Def not legal, almost like one of those “chippers”. But it’s 2020 anything can happen!
I could see old dudes that are good at shuffleboard and/or pool using this to moderate success from 15 ft and in. Might have to putt from 30-40 with hybrid or something. Will stick with my Newport for now haha.
with this regulation about putter, I guess it is not legal If there are any markings on the putter’s face, they may not contain “sharp edges or raised lips,” under Section 5f. As with all clubs, the angle of a putter’s shaft relative to the ground cannot exceed 80 degrees when the club is in the address position. Additionally, the shaft’s angle at address relative to the target line cannot diverge from the vertical more than 20 degrees in the target’s direction or more than 10 degrees in the opposite direction, pursuant to Sections 1d(i) and 1d(ii). Unlike other clubs, a putter’s shaft, neck or socket “may be fixed at any point in the head,” according to Section 2c.
14 clubs one putter and it’s 40% of game - why not have two putters and use this one for short putts? ... are you better at 5 footers with it...looks like it might be longer than it is wider though...
My late wife used tojoin the USGA every year and get the Book of Rules. I read this book for a few years and quit!
