- Tawang is the western most part of Arunachal Pradesh. Tawang is a town in northeastern India famous for its 400-year-old monastery. This monastery is one of the biggest Buddhist monasteries to be found in India and is an important pilgrim center for the followers of Buddhism. Tawang is located at an elevation of 10,000 ft above sea level, this mountain town is amongst the untouched and lesser-explored hilly terrains of the country. Tucked in the lap of the mighty Himalayas, Tawang is truly a paradise for nature lovers. During the Sino-Indian war of 1962, Tawang fell briefly under Chinese control, but China voluntarily withdrew its troops at the end of the war and Tawang returned to Indian administration. But China has not relinquished its claims on most of Arunachal Pradesh including Tawang. Snowfall can be witnessed from November till May in Tawang. India - china border , 20 K.m from Tawang town.
