You diagnosed me in the early 80s when I walked into the UCLA Neuropsychiatric Clinic, desperate for help. Grateful still.🙏🏼

Admire Kay’s ability to speak so candidly about her experiences with Bipolar. It helps me and I’m sure others with bipolar to come to terms with this lifelong condition. It’s not easy to talk with others who don’t have the understanding or the knowledge and equally one hides from their diagnosis rather than admit it!

i was hospitalized and diagnosed 3 years ago, at 31. I read her books, and many others, to try to understand the condition. But as an under-educated and impoverished adult I don't know how to move forward since losing my job(and medical insurance) while trying to navigate all the medications that go into maintaining the disorder. I'm totally lost

Usually after the acute manic symptoms resolve it dosent take a lot of meds to stay stabilized. Maybe lithium and Wellbutrin, or lithium alone, but that’s it.

I her book, The Unquiet Mind, Kay Jamison says something I wish clinicians understood.
Manic depression is a biological disease with a psychiatric element, or something to that effect.
Perhaps this would end the stigma that still haunts patients to this day.

33 years on lithium damaged my kidneys. On other that isn’t as good. Is Dr. Jamison still on lithium? I can’t write as well.

Is the gene test helpful for bipolar illness.

Hi I'm a medschool student and this test is not helpful because one can have the genes and not express them according to epigenetics. The diagnosis is clinical and not genetical. Have a nice day
