Why should workers rights be controversial?
What a bill claims to do is rarely what it actually does. Everything in that bill will simply increase labour costs and further supress the market. The true minimum wage is always zero.

That's bullshit, we need increases in wages, they have been lagging behind the inflation for far too long
@welshmouse yep, just further hamstring the economy and force companies to employ less or close. While simultaneously giving larger companies an unsurmountable advantage, promoting prices increases and reducing competition.
Not to mention encouraging problem employees to milk the system and be even more difficult to deal with. Pffff

On planning permission, I saw an expert say that developers can make money by getting planning permission but not building houses as the land value goes up.
A suggestion was that planning permission should have a time limit on it, seems a sensible idea to me.
Planning permissions do have a time limit on them - it’s 3 years. If a scheme hasn’t been ‘implemented’ by that point, the planning permission expires.

I am very pleased to hear about a fair pay agreement in social care, and i hope that cones to fruition.
What labour need to know is that house building companies actually own very little land. (Neighbour works for one in the purchasing team.) They seek options to purchase subject to planning permission. Then they do the deal.

Its not really the kings speech is it? It is written for him by parliament. Draft bills are not permanent. Tell the people one thing and do another. Change things to the bill to suit them . Not really addressing the immediate problems in the country though is it?
At the end of the day royal family own this country, not parliament. So I suspect that King's word is more important than parlament. At the end of the day parliament are just employees of royal family. If I am not mistaken.

Scrapping the Lords is yet another really bloody dumb idea, and no doubt those who want to scrap them would only come to regret it after. The Lords powers to delay are minimal anyway, even though at times they are the sole voice of reason in Parliament.
