- Learning how to paddle in surf stance is a great skill to have. You will catch more waves using it and find that your balance and foot work around the board will become easier too. It takes a bit of practice but have a go on flat water first and then progress into the waves.
Paddling in surf stance isn't just about the surf. It's also the first step into doing step back turns and other manoeuvres on flat water too... so get practicing.

It depends a lot on the type of wave, number of people around you and if your board is adecuate for surfing. In some places, waves are really hard to catch because they're not clean, there are many and most of them not big enough to surf. If you are in a spot with lots of people, you can harm somebody because in the beginning you don't control your board. If your board is too big, it's even more difficult to surf regardless the fact that your nose will stick into the water. I don't know why most of these important issues are not veen mentioned in these type of videos.
This is true Simon. We have mention it in may videos before, that finding a quiet non busy wave is the most important thing when learn to SUP surf.
Sorry we didn't mention this again in this video. This video was really just about the real basic technique that 90% of paddlers will need to get into waves successfully. thanks Reuben
