Why does DMF (dimethylformamide) have 3 signals in 1H NMR ?

    I have one question.
    Why the chemical shift of cis methyl proton is lower than trans methyl proton?

      Due to paramagnetic anisotropy of c=o the cis methyl protons comes in the shielding region while the trans comes in deshielding region,so desheilding increases the chemical shift value slightly in this case.Hope you get your answer

      my best guess is that the energy excites the reactivity of the electrons & thus they resonate quicker. think about the location of these electrons going from sp^3 to sp^2 bond character: the atom is being pulled closer to the carbon by the pi orbital overlap. thus it rotates faster compared to solely a sigma bond

    How temperature effect the signals

      With the increasing temperature the two signals in aliphatic region will come closer and merge into one signal after a particular temperature.
