Thanks! This is a really informative video. I’m currently growing some veg for the first time and I’ve got some napa cabbage growing and noticed recently the cabbage looper eggs and dropping but didn’t know what it was. So this was helpful to know 😊
My dad always did for bug control is to make up a mixture of vinegar, sugar and water put in glass jars, no more than 1/2 full and attach to a post so it doesn't get knocked over. The bugs are attracted by the sweet smell and climb down into the liquid and now they are wet and are unable to climb back out and drown. Go around with a extra container and wire mesh strainer and strain the contents of jar into the other jar and pour the liquid back into original jar. Dump dead bugs into pail and after straining out all jars throw away dead bugs far away from your home or you'll attract more bugs. When first starting this system you will need to go around strain bugs out 2x a day for first couple days until population is knocked down. Jars will fill so full that the bodies will make an island and the new bugs entering will not drown. So keep on top of straining the jars.

I'm so glad you talked about bolting. I put in some transplants some weeks ago and some seeds twice. so far everything is bolting. I did water almost daily and kept things moist as I have well draining soil. scratching my head but enjoying the harvest of leaves from the bolting plants. our temps have been erratic for sure. I will try once more and allow give the remaining sprouts a chance to mature. your vids are confidence builders! thanks!
I have been watching many many youtube gardening videos, somehow I found this Chinese cabbage video which is on my next planting list. Although I do not live in US but I live in down south, Australia, the climate you mentioned is totally different from here. I really love the way of you to descript the whole napa cabbage (here we called wong bok cabbage) growing in very detailed. Hence, I just subscribed your channel, way to go "Rainbow Gardens".
Deer usually dine after dusk. The best way to keep deer out is to string solar light strings at random intervals around the perimeter. The ones that blink randomly are best. My garden looks like a Disco at night... Dis-go deer. lol This has worked for 3 years now.
The lights really work. Someone could get rich by promoting some solar lights with fancy DIS-GO DEER packaging (dancing deer under a ball room mirrror) and selling them in home improvement stores and garden centers.
I just read a suggestion to cut off the base of your cabbage, put 3-4 toothpicks in the base, stick it in water, and grow a new one like you would an avocado pit. I'm anxious to try that.
Oh nooo... I didn't know aphids like cabbage. I haven't even checked them for that, but I can BET they're on them because my garden is aphid central! I was so hoping that since they were growing nicely, they'd reach maturity, but I notice today that they're wilty for some reason. I'm on the way to go check 'em! Guess I'll get out the Neem!

I seeded celery indoors about 7 weeks ago and all I have are three tiny, tiny sprouts just now putting out their true leaves. What in the world?! Update on my Brussel sprouts - I planed them in September and got a good crop in January, with another crop coming probably in another week or two. I live in climate 9b, some frosts in the winter, but these Brussel sprouts survived all that to produce some lovely sprouts.
Oh thank you for the update! I know you are enjoying them. Celery? I have grown celery 2 times but I do not have enough footage for a video (yet). It is a very slow grower. When it is time to harvest, you need to cover it first, called "blanching".
The Bobbex works but I have a few new water weapons that are motion activated. I'm afraid that they get stuck in the on position which hasn't happened in testing so I'll test it out on the mailman. :)
$7-9 a head of chinese cabbage? Holy crap! They are like $2 max here in the UK. I tend to just buy them as our growing season is short. I grow other asian greens which grow faster and are expensive here.

For some reason this type of cabbage doesn't do well in my floating raft aquaponics system. The Round Dutch cabbage is right next to it and looks beautiful.Coco coir is the bomb bizzle isn't it? Chuck
The seedlings need to be thinned out so you just have single seedlings growing. If you try pull out unwanted seedlings then you will disturb the roots of the seedling you wish to keep so, it's best to cut off unwanted seedlings at ground level so as to avoid disturbing the roots of the remaining seedling. Do the same with radishes or any other plant which needs thinning.

Im in Africa, please for how long should I hold the sawn seeds in the fridge before bringing them out? I have Kale, cabbage, strawberries seeds ))

Yes you can cut the outer leaves or you can cut the whole plant out but not too low and more will sprout until it bolts.
