Great post mate, do u have a heated birdroom? You mentioned the cold snap holding the birds back, just wondering if a heated birdroom would help bring them into condition quicker 🤷♂️ I don’t have birds these days but as u can imagine the desire is always there 😉
Hi, no the bird room isn’t heated. It’s well insulated to reduce the problems caused by frost and protect from extreme heat in summer however all the windows are open so is a very similar environment as if they were outdoors
I have a pair of Common Canaries, the hen laid 4 eggs then on day 5 abandoned the nest. I removed the eggs after another 48 hours "she totally refused to even approach the nest" after removing her eggs she went back in the nest, and the past day the male is trying to rebuild the nest. I'm totally confused as what's happening. he's also become aggressive with the hen during the morning.
Remove the male and keep him next to her in another cage. put the nest and let her rebuild it. Once she builds it again put the male back in with her. Something must have spooked her. Happened to me this year twice when I touched the finches eggs or moved the male away. I learned to just leave them alone if the female has a tendency to abandon the nest.
Great video as always, mine really doesnt have a clue 2nd lot of eggs sat on them for a day then ripped the nest apart lost 2 eggs still have 2 but shes not bothered at all, not seen any matings but have seen him feeding her so don't think we will be successful this year but we will have to just wait and see what happens xx
Looking good oli I wish you a brilliant breeding season buddy well done mate
Thanks mate, you too!
nice setup
great job
thanks for sharing
Great video mate. I'm new to this. Now in process of getting shed and aviary. Any birds you suggest for new starter.
Hi, the easiest natives to start with would be redpolls and greenfinches. Siskins are reasonable as well however the cock birds can be troublesome
@OCAVIARY thankyou. Do they need to be in individual breeding cages or would a shed and large aviary be ideal
Best of luck pal 👍
Nice one Oliver Steven up the road got chicks in nest

Cruel for birds to b caged like this. Belong in the wild.
