The thing about songs decades back, I know that this song is less than 30 years old, is they are just ageless, absolutely timeless. A lot of the mess we hear today is just pure garbage. Stuff that has no social value at all. I remember my mom buying Sade's first three albums. She still has them, on CD, that is, but she first had them on cassette. Boy, she wore this album out. War Of The Heart and Maureen are her favorites.

Born and raised in NJ, I visited South Florida for the first time on a family trip in 1993 when I was 17. I spent days in a swimming pool under palm trees and intense heat, listening to this song for hours. It's the only thing I can think about when I hear this.

jumpoutatree . Now that’s got to be a beautiful memory. I too was born and raised in NJ, and attended college in Florida (north Florida). You must have excellent taste in music if at the young age of 17 you could listen to this beauty of a song for hours. I, though much older than you, absolutely love this song . It was 1990. I was in La Linea Spain, near Gibraltar, serving as a mormon missionary - which I absolutely hated. I felt trapped, discouraged and depressed. Our flat had a rooftop where neighbors would hang out at night. One Saturday night when I was feeling especially down, a group of young Scottish people - probably about my same age - were on the roof smoking weed and listening to Sade. Since we were on the top floor, we could clearly hear their music and conversations. I'll never forget hearing this one guy, who was obviously stoned, and lost in this song singing "I'm loaded - don't know where to point this thing!" It was an extremely poignant moment for me because I deeply wished I was hanging out with those people instead of being 'trapped' on a miserable mission. They seemed so 'free,' 'full of 'soul' and 'happy-' the complete opposite of my state of being then. Since then I've always associated this song with 'freedom,' and 'independence.' I'm long out of the mormon faith - and on an occasional stoney Saturday night, sometimes get lost myself listening to early Sade- and notably "War of the Hearts." It reminds me of that dark time and, more importantly, makes me grateful for the peace I now enjoy compared to then. God bless Sade... and those kids on the rooftop that night.

I've been listening to Sade since 1986, she helped me understand my teenage years. What a blessing, I jammed and learned and so much wiser. Utmost RESPECT and ADMIRATION to her. Seen her Philadelphia at the DELL, she blew my mind, as I sang every song.

Sade defies time and space with her talent. Her lyrics strike a chord, her melodies strike a rhythm, and her voice soothes the very essence of my soul. Listening to her music takes me back 15-20 years, yet I find myself still listening to her today and enjoying it just as much, if not more. She never goes out of style. Sade = Timeless
