I have a question here, is this a design flaw or may be I don't know... The Steel Cylinder and the Stone, both are rotating in the same direction, both are in clockwise direction. Isn't the grinding very in-efficient ? either the stone can be made stand-still, that way there would be better grinding, or best is to motor it anticlockwise. I don't know how these machines work, but is it just me, or others feel the same ?
With the setup, the grain gets "crushed" between the rolling stone and pot. It's possible because stone roles(it's angled) not rotates. Also, the stone roles relatively slow because of inertia. There will be no crushing if you make stone stand still or rotate anticlockwise, it'll be like mixer then. Crushing gives better teste to the batter and chutney than our household mixers.
Yes. You have to soak rava separately with dal. Before grinding dal add 1 small cup poha to dal and grind after half hour. Then add rava. Remove as much water as you can from rava.

Moving parts which are bolted gets deposition of slurry. The slurry keeps deposited in moving part finally causing cancer and then people will cry why god is unfair to me. Secondly the clothes used here are really dirty. Human are bound to kill each other for monetary profit
A blender cuts the rice it just cuts it fine very difficult for it to crush it. Stone grinder crushes it. The taste is better and the air incorporation is better though blenders can be designed to incorporate air with a flap. YOu will need a huge blender. Its just not practical. Blender is good for home use you won't find much difference in taste and texture if you us a vitamix blender But for largers batches a vitamix blender doesn't do the job. If you make a 15 liter blender it will not have enough power for the blades at the bottom to grind something like batter or chutney it works well for making tomato paste and blending soft masalas. You can make batter in these 5 to 15 liter blenders but here taste and texture will differ as those small blades at the bottom will not be able to evenly beat the entire batters.

vasant bhandi because idly has to be fermented by yeast and certain bacteria which wud normally be made available in the hands... rather than incorporating commercially prepared yeast we south Indians mix the batter with hand and that wud give us fluffy idlis. the unwanted bacteria wud automatically die when it is steam heated... the Idlis shown above was awesome... learn to appreciate dear
