I've worked on a couple slipper clutches, they are a bit tricky but worth it. Great to see you doing another bike video. Congrats winning that championship. Buttons smashed again
Although not specifically commenting about this video, I am so glad I discovered your channel as I was considering buying an R8, but having seen the problems they seem to suffer from and the cost of replacing them, I have rethought it and am now investigating a Porsche instead, I am sure you have saved many people not just myself.
I think it's to do with the thumbs up part, more thumbs up a video gets the more youtube puts it out to other people to come across and subscribe if they like the content.
Great vid guys - really enjoyed that, even though my last real bike was a 1999 R6... I now ride bicycles (with electonicals) but don't have to worry too much about slipper clutches...
I’m on my second zx7r in 25 years and they came with a slipper clutch as standard it is set up buy different thickness metal plates. Great explanation of how slippers work and why you need them.
Absolutely brilliant video all this technology is amazing and is very interesting to hear how it works As an engineer I find this very interesting In my day it was pin the throttle and hold on😊 Keep up the good work
I watched someone slagging Crafar off for his tech talk on RUclips, saying he didn't know what he was talking about 😂😂. I was howling laughing. Good vid this Ricky, well explained and followable as you worked through each part.
Ricky... If you are unloading the front.... Doesn't that reduce the braking effect that the front tire can put down on the track, as there is less contact patch due to the tyre weight "lifting" off the front axle... I don't ride bikes so haven't a clue
Great vid, something I understood from my days with an ex R6 cup bike (2co) if memory serves me right we used to take one of the 3 star washers out the clutch to allow some more slip when down shifting .
I am constantly amazed by the modern world of sensors and data, I have several bikes some on carbs , some injected, none with ABS , traction control or electronic controlled suspension, they all manage to put a grin on my face though . Thank you for trying to explain , most of it I did understand.
Bloody hell, I just ride them 😳 😂!! Master class that,I'm going to rewatch a few hundred times 😊. When I slide in or out its just riding, no thought process is involved 😅..I'm fast group but nowhere near your level,& mechanically I'm an amoeba 😢🤣
I remember going to the IOM TT in 1989 , the lap record had just topped 120mph average. V&M were the biggest name in bike tuning and I'm still into fast cars and bikes. Give us a Carly Riky (plz)
I've got as much mechanical knowledge as a clay tablet from 3000BC but Jesus I love the way you explain things - even duck eggs like me can understand it
So you're moving from R6 to R1 again, lol. Bit newer than my 05 R1 but we've put the 07/08 box in mine to use the slipper clutch! I understand how it works but wouldn't wanna build one, lol! Hiya Kate xx
I melted most of my clutch on an 08 R1, funnily enough, back in 2008 😁 Fitted Pazzo levers, but completely ignored the brass sleeve, that I should have taken off the OEM levers - turns out, my clutch was never fully disengaging; so the several 1000 miles I did after (with loads of launches) just lunched all the plates, and I got given a box of bits from George Whites in Swindon along with a 700 quid bill oops
My old Aprilia RSV1000 had a slipper clutch as standard.. It worked off vaccum.. It had a rubber diaphragm between the clutch cover and the clutch pressure plate so when you shut the throttle it created a vaccum and pulled the clutch slightly.... Worked quit well
Fascinating. Ive absolutely no idea what youre on about but my brain wants to understand 🙃 😂. Will i ever come across a slipper clutch in my lifetime, doubt it. Cant hurt to learn a little and know a bit more than i did yesterday. Great Vid Richy lad.
There is a reason/function of the slipper clutch you didn’t fully cover, when you hit the back brake and it locks up fully (wheel stops spinning) you have very little control and a crash is very possible…. A slipper brake slows the rear wheel speed using engine braking but the wheel is still turning so you can slide/control the bike, this is how supermoto riders back into corners… its not back brake use as most think.
Slipper clutch doesn’t slow the rear wheel speed down, the engine does that. The slipper clutch allows the rear wheel speed to be different from the speed it should be for that engine rpm/gear. Super Motos back in because they run very little or no slipper clutch…so the rear wheel speed is massively reduced due to engine speed vs ground speed.
@@peterwoodhead2569chill out man, its just an observation and a deviation from their normally excellent standards. Could be just a setting on the camera.
Please if you are gonna show the laptop, please take a minute to get rid of the reflection of the ceiling lights. Really hard to see what you’re trying to show
Ricky just looks so much happier when he's talking bikes, geeeeek 😄👍
Fantastic explanation on corner entry. Thanks. More bikes please.
This is why riding on Sand adds another liquid level
Front End Crash / Braking & Tuning. Thanks. That explains a lot as to why the front likes to tuck these days. I raced 1978/84 on two strokes.
A nice explanation of what teams call 'braking strategies', ta very much

Great video! And loved the detailed explanation on the slipper clutch and braking technique's etc..
Always amazing content, either with cars or bikes or just general chit chat. I still dont understand the subscribers not been at 100k yet
I think it's to do with the thumbs up part, more thumbs up a video gets the more youtube puts it out to other people to come across and subscribe if they like the content.
Great insightful video Ricky, Congratulations on the NG 600 championship!! Well deserved.
Great vid guys - really enjoyed that, even though my last real bike was a 1999 R6... I now ride bicycles (with electonicals) but don't have to worry too much about slipper clutches...
Great explanation of clutches uses and strengths
Very clever wealth of knowledge
Damn good information ..much appreciate this thing .. this info may be good for the track guys but in the streets this is very needed info..
Learned so much from this 👏🏻👏🏻 More please!

Enjoyed that one
Brilliant stuff Rick. Keep it up !
My first bike (on the road) was a Raleigh Mobylette. I skimmed the head and added an oversize carb. Then it could do 31mph. Those were the days..
Absolutely brilliant video all this technology is amazing and is very interesting to hear how it works
As an engineer I find this very interesting

Keep up the good work

Great information Ricky; I’ll check out Simon Crafar too….
Great explanation Ricky can’t wait till next year to get back on track
Fascinating, awesome tech vid. Love bike content
did you like the R9? Ull move to cp3 or stay with the R6 next year?
Bloody hell, I just ride them 😳 😂!!

Thanks Ricky really interesting, love the cars but love the bike stuff more. Well done Dav as well great videoing. Keep it up boys
Love the bike video hope you run open next year
Quote Ricky in June “litre bikes are just too hard, you have to be riding them constant to be able to be on top of them… “ 😝

What would be an advantage/disadvantage of a dry clutch ?
Great watch Ricky 👏👏👏

If ever anyone wanted a rapid brain dump of various dynamics at play as top tier racers ‘do their thang’ in and out of corners. Chuffing Nora.
Great video who won the last Carly for the Instagram/Skoda comment?
A good video, I think I understood things 😁.
You should try a season in no limits pirelli series

Where would I find a snapon hat?
In the grape wagon.
You will have a local snapon truck.
Give him a ring.
More bikes please Ricky

What’s going on with the editing the last couple of videos? It seems very jumpy. It is putting me off watching. There is no flow
OMG…..once you dial into it you can’t unsee it. Hope they sort it out…😳
Don’t watch it then, if their best efforts aren’t good enough for you just pay for some professional content that you have a right to complain about.
