6 Stretches to Improve Hip Spasticity After Stroke

  • Spasticity, high muscle tone, and tightness of the hip joint can be frustrating. It can cause pain, stiffness, and discomfort. Research shows that one of the best ways to manage spasticity and high tone is with daily stretching.
    In this video, I walk you through a real-time, 25-minute video of 6 gentle stretches for your hips to help improve spasticity and high tone. It may be helpful to have someone help you with these stretches depending on where you're at in your journey.
    What You'll Need:
    Somewhere sturdy to lie down/sit
    A sheet
    Willingness to stretch with me!

    Thank you so much for sharing the above. Very helpful indeed. The main problem i face is cannot lie on my back on my own, neither can I raise my legs 😭😭😭. Please suggest how to go about the same. Have lesions in both my spine and hip joint. Please suggest how to go about the same

If you are unable to move both sides, you may benefit from using techniques like mental practice (practicing movements in your mind) and action observation (watching someone else do the movement). These are evidence-based ways to create positive brain changes without actually moving!

    Those exercises are great, but my husband can't move either his arm or leg and he is in great pain. Please do a video for people like me so I can exercise his arm and leg. 😊

      @tcsproductions100, The hip rotation stretch can be done in a chair, but the rest will be difficult to do without having a flat surface (like a bed or couch).
