Awesome!❤ I’m retired on social security as my only income. I love to knit and currently learning to knit socks. I was so worried if I could afford the cost of yarn that the sock patterns recommend. I appreciate your information so much. I love to knit for family and charity. Your video really made a difference in my decision to continue working on socks. Thank you. I spend lots of Tim in hospitals either with husband or daughter who is now on palliative care. I’m allowed to take small projects to work on but not anything large. Socks are perfect size. Yes I am now a subscriber. Thank you again.🎉🎉
Right now, Primere Wool Free Sock is on my needles. OMG, it is so soft. It's pretty easy to work with, and I'm a beginner knitter. It's 93% acrylic and 7% PBT
Great stuff, I’m a new knitter I don’t have a big yarn collection, I’ve been holding on to some really nice silk yarn, I like shawls and you’ve giving lots of great ideas, Thank you my dear. Stay healthy be happy
I still can’t do that… $15 socks is too spendy! But that’s also $25 NZD which makes me cringe for a pair of socks! But I LOVE knitting socks and using dpns and my tiny sock circs
@@NerdyKnitting same. I did buy a few spools of Jawoll reinforcing thread that is a wool/nylon blend that I'll be holding with the felici and stroll yarn when I work the heel, gusset, and toe. I bought it from WEBS/yarn.com
Just found you, and subscribed. I'm ready to start my first pair of sock, and want to be budget minded, so glad I found this info. I will try to find some yarn, and give it a try. I subscribed.
My favorites are Cascade Heritage (wonderfully soft to wear), Kroy, Felici, and Regia. Honorable mention: Loops n Threads’ Perfect Pair. That’s only $6 per 100g. but no wool. Side note - my Felici page on the KP website says $6.99 per skein. ☹️🤔
I've been meaning to try Regia and I didn't know Loops 'n Threads had a sock yarn - thanks for mentioning it! I guess the price for Felici has changed.
Nerdy Knitting The Loops n Threads skein looks really small. It’s kind of hard to spot at Michael’s - I wanted nothing to do with it for the first year they had it. But once I tried it I ended up knitting all seven colors of it in a few months. It makes a really nice fabric. As far as Knitpicks Felici goes I’m wondering if they just change the price depending on which computer is “looking” at it. They know I buy a lot of it so they know I’d probably be willing to spend more; it sounds kind of shady to me… Did you get the pic of their page recently?
Thanks for the details about Loops 'n Threads - I'll keep an eye out for it next time I'm at Michaels. The pictures for the video were probably taken in August - so it's most likely just a change in the price since then.
Late to the party, but Little Knits online sells past-season sock yarns from higher-end brands for as low as $5-$7 for 450-550 yard balls. Regia, etc. It's hit-or-miss on what is available at any given time, like any clearance retailer.
I'm really enjoying your videos and have some questions: How is self striping different from variegated? (I've used variegated) Will you be coming out with a toe up sock video?
Good question! Variegated yarn 'varies' (for lack of a better word!) - and it can have really short color changes (like just a few inches) to really long color changes (up to about 9 inches) - all within the same skein. This produces lots of color variety and areas of 'color pooling'. A self-striping yarn will have very controlled longer color changes that produce clearly defined stripes. And, yes, a toe-up sock video is on my (very long) to-do list! ;-)
That is expensive for a pair o' sox. I have the patience to separate a 4 ply budget brand [RedHeart] down to a 2 ply, twist and ball/cake it, add a nylon carrier yarn as i ķnit. That would probably make my socks cost the unheard of price of maybe $2 a pair.
Do you have a favorite sock yarn? Tell us about it!
U r welcome.n

Thanks for your enjoyable video. Although I am a small dyer, I use Paton's Kroy often....And keep some on hand for gift socks or work socks.
New to sock knitting but found West Yorkshire Spinners Signature 4-ply, 75/25 wool/ nylon, at my LYS for $13.00 for 437/ yard skein.
That's great! I'll add that to my list of sock yarns to keep an eye out for. Thanks for the tip!
berroco comfort sock is !!! so good. so soft
Thanks for the recommendation! I'm going to have to do another video with everyone's great suggestions!
Hobby Lobby Cozy Toes. $4.99 for 210 yd skein. But 30% off all yarn every other week. Acrylic and polyester. Fun colors
Great deal - and great for those who dislike wool (maybe Hobby Lobby will come up here to Canada some day)! Thank you for sharing the info.
And . . . I got most of my sock yarn, at the hobby lobby semi annual clearance- 75% off
Ice yarns has great affordable sock yarn! my favourites are Regia, Opal and Schoppel - they're a bit pricier but they last forever
I haven't tried Ice yarns yet - thanks for the recommendation!

I really like Opal sock yarn. I purchased it on Etsy and it was less than 15.00 US. It holds up really well to lots of washing and wearing.

Nerdy Knitting Ahhh. Gotchya. I easily become cynical.
I understand!
Not sure how available this is in the US but Drops Fabel is a good, reasonably priced yarn which comes in lots of colours.
It didn't even cross my mind to check Drops to see if they had a sock yarn. Thank you for the recommendation!
if i can add a dk sock yarn, i love novita nalle - very sturdy, nice and toothy but soft enough, very inexpensive.
Thanks for the recommendation!
Good morning I love all your videos but I have a few questions to ask you
Hi Tonia, how does the Cascade handle being washed? Just curious because I am considering a purchase. Thank you in advance. 😊🙏😊
I haven't personally used Cascade sock yarn so can't really tell you how it will hold up. Sorry!
Can’t buy these in Australia
