I understand what you are saying-
    1. About vegetables - it isn't a mistake to buy from our neighbour - instead we are giving back the whole country spices, rubber , tea , pineapple, tapioca, coffee, coconut - every location has different cultivation- I disagree with your views on buying from tamilnadu -we are in one country called India - trading here and there is not a mistake - like we can't cultivate apple as it can be done in Kashmir cold regions - cultivation depends on land availability and the geographical location. Most Tamil farmers depend Kerala for trade - it is give and take.
    2. I disagree with the point on helping tendency - you should visit Palakkad , Calicut, Malappuram regions - they will treat you family - you can also ask for help which they never deny - I don't know much about kollam - for help you should ask for it - keralities are warmth welcoming persons that's why tourism is good here.
    3. How can you expect a good chappathi in South Indian rice state - lol -
    4. For night life it is better in Kochi.
    5. It's their personal choice of what kind of houses - they need to build - it may be in any form - they are not cheating - they are working hard to earn it - you have 1 life - it's their personal choice of what kind of house they need - it might be their dream.

    Very good observations. 😃
    One point,
"Chetta"is a malayalified variation of JyeshTha meaning elder in age. Correct word for Brother is Sahodaran. So Elder brother is JyeshTha sahodaran. People just shorten it to chettaa or ettaa.
So nothing technically wrong in wife calling husband "chetta", he being the elder person.

Annan, Akka, Thanka, Thampi, etc. are the original Malayalam words. In the southern districts of Kollam, Pathanamthitta, and Trivandrum, people use Annan and Akka a lot. Chettan, Chechi, Aniyathi, Aniyan, Sahodharan, etc. are all the Malayalam phonetic rendition of the Sanskrit words that were imposed on the local population of Kerala during the middle ages. The common presence of the former mentioned words in both Tamil and Malayalam is because both Tamil and Malayalam were earlier the dialects of a common ancestral language (Proto Tamil Malayalam) which evolved into 2 different languages.

Chettan is derived from the word jyeshtan which means "born first" or "someone born before you".. It does not actually mean brother.. It can be used to address anyone born before you. The word for brother is "sahodaran" or "koodepirappu". But for ease of saying, everyone refers to elder brother as "chetta/etta" (because he is anyway older than you). Hence same word used for anyone born before you like for example husband or elder brother-in-law.
Others get confused because over time eve malayalis have forgotten the origin of the word "chettan", and sometimes give translation of brother as chettan or vice-versa leaving non-malayalis confused when they hear husbands also being called so.

Chapati is not a part of Kerala food culture, so the quality might not be the best same as u get south Indian dishes in North. All fine bro, just three corrections. Firstly, bargaining is unethical. Why should someone give a fake price initially and then come down based on how shamelessly one customer begs for a reduction. In such a situation, an experienced bargainer may get almost a fair price and a shy guy gets cheated. The MRP in north and here is bit different. Here no one can apply a price as per will and wish. Secondly, sharing of vehicle is required in areas where adequate public transport facility is not available and there's greater social inequality. Keralites are otherwise known for helping nature. That's why open crimes are not seen here. In other places people watch even murders silently and enjoyably. Here the case is different. Thirdly, apple cost....come on yaar. See the variety of fruits and its availability throughout the year here. Local fruits are cheaper everywhere. Well, I see all your videos. No need to appreciate everything. You can be rational in comments. All the best. By the by..I like Indore, it's food culture, markets etc..

Good observations about malayali community and that "chetta" part was funny.. 😄 Ok, now to the points..
Speaking of lack of agriculture and dependency on other states for food grains and vegetables, it is actually one of many outcomes (rather negative) of education and increased quality of life. Majority of malayalis don't want their children working on the field and they all want their kids to get good education and a decent job or go abroad. even the farmer parents don't want their children to be on the same turf as they were. That's the main reason why this agricultural industry is declining in Kerala. In terms of unemployment, actually we have a lot of job opportunities here in Kerala and it's evident from the guest labourers working and making decent income in Kerala. It is the mindset of malayalis making a false image of unemployment there. For an average malayali, anything less than a government job is not a job at all. If you just look around, you can see everybody is onto something and they all make good money from their daily mundane jobs. But still they consider themselves as unemployed. I have a friend who is running their family business with his father in Chalai, Trivandrum, calls himself unemployed even though this little prat makes a decent income from the business and drives around in a car worth 15lakhs. This is what the real picture of unemployment statistics in Kerala. It may not be the case of entire Kerala, but the truth is different.

Unfortunately what we observe in present day kerala is everyone is being addressed as chetta. Even very young boys call 60, 70, 80 years old men as chetta. It is ridiculous to listen and mockery of the word respect.
We used to address old people as mama/n, appooppan, appachan, achaachan etc.
One more thing, chettan is not a pure malayalam it is from sanskrit "jeshta". But most keralaites, who have no linguistic understanding, think that it is malayalam.
Anna is other most suitable word to give respect to elders. But keralites from central and northern region hate this term.
See all other draviadian languages use anna. Being a dravidian language malayalam should also use anna instead of chetta.

Kerala is not the highest alcohol consuming state, its 5th. That position is not at all good, consumption should come down.
House for Malayalee is not a place just to sleep and live together ,we want all possible luxury in our house, so people built the best they can, with all facilities, But there are huge houses usually unoccupied or occupied by ageing parents or by small family, that is surely a waste. there are huge houses built just to show off.
Cultivation is an expensive thing, due to hue labour and land cost .land scarcity is also a problem.labours come from others states to do farming( before it was from Tamil Nadu and Andra, now it is from North)
Night life is almost nil in Kerala, Kochi may be better than other places in Kerala. In Thiruvananthapuram most of the property/buildings in the heart of the city is government owned ,they close by 5.30 pm.

Chapati - pizza made by Italians and by Indians, Chapati is not a Kerala food, Or dosa/idly made by Northies and Keralites.
Dependency for food on other states. It is a misconception, Will you grow your own food commercially if you can buy way cheaper from other places. The land is fertile and food can be grown if situation changes in future.
Each region has its own native fruits and exotic ones from other places. Apple, Orange, grapes exotic here, Bananas (many verities), Pineapple, papaya, jackfruit, mangoes(not the best ones in India) are the native.
Bargaining, never see people bargain anywhere in the world in big malls and stores all buy at mrp. Do not understand why people bargain with small vendors, even road side vendors and poor people selling goods for daily bread. This is the culture here.
Houses, over investment is there, but it is a real estate investment, when you not invest in agriculture or other business, property is the option. Agree that there is a pride element, but it is not exactly like that.
Night Life - In India, night life is more prominent where there is extreme heat during the day time (seasonal), the day night duration in Kerala is almost 12-12 hours. And the landscape and greenery pampers snakes etc., hiding and attacking, traditionally people spend the evening with family or local friends.
Sharing with neighbors, here what needed to be shared is money if one is in difficulty, not car, or grocery etc., which almost all can afford to or have access to. In old days people used to share things like you said.
Waste management it is a real issue.
Alcohol - Like the Russians. And a way people support their Govt, in return Govt. give meals to children at school, subsidized food through PDS shops, free health care etc. 😆
Narrow Roads, there is no vast plain lands, geography is the reason.
Strike, Hartal, It is celebration day, Holiday. People are used to it. Shop owners get a holiday, save on electricity charges, but no effect on sales, same with the employed 😆

Actually spending money on house is a good thing. Even if slightly over budget. A house is typically made for 2 generations and often can last 3 generations. If we put that extra money once now, may be our kids need not build a house and they can focus their energy on other things. Also we spent close to 14 hours at home every day and having good living conditions are always comfortable. Good houses make kerala look even more beautiful.

in kerala and was about to build a home which will never be used by him but only his parents. He can’t even think of building a smaller homes because all the neighborhood have big homes.
    2) Hartaal- completely agree that an entire state should not be shut down whatever the matter may be. At the same time people should be allowed to protest in a peaceful way. That’s democracy anyway. I give full marks to kerala because they are the most politically aware state. Just say no to Hartaal
    3) waste management not very good compared to foreign countries but better than many Indian states. I think we must think higher and should invest more in waste management
    4) Roads are not the best. Its often congested. We may need an express highway and ring roads around every major town/ city to make them decongested.
    5) alcohol - People themselves have to think and do something.

Money from alcohol should go only for spreading awareness against alcohol and in preventing bad sides of alcoholism like domestic violence, drunken driving etc. Once that scheme is in place and becomes effective alcohol consumption will reduce (or the social cost of alcoholism will come down), consequently the revenue from alcohol as well, thus creating a feedback loop. This concept has been tried and tested, it is called Pigovian tax, I recommend everyone look it up.

Chettan doesn't actually mean brother . It just mean someone slightly elder .

What you stated is absolutely true. What you said is the other side of the coin. Actually brother is called jyeshtan. Over a period of time it got changed to chettan for every category. Waste Management is a nightmare in Kerala. Government has to think about an organized set up. I think collection centres are being set up where you can deposit the waste after paying a certain fees.
Number one revenue earner is Alcohol. Sale is through Govt. Outlet only.

Kudos! Well done! It's obvious from the video that you did thorough homework for it. Completely agree with you on waste management, environmental conservation, alcohol and strikes issues. Haven't understood yet why such an educated populace behave in such a manner. Maybe things will improve in the future. However, I personally think other points raised by you are rather trivial. I mean, investment made on one's house is a personal choice. At least it's better than wasting your money on building more and more temples, right? I don't think having a little house pride is a bad thing. Why shouldn't you splurge on the place you'll spend the rest of your life in? Makes sense to me. Maybe not for you. Like I said, it's a personal choice.

Sir, Kerala has its own culture as any other state.. Most of your points are relatable with our culture including building luxurious houses(as its a personal choice).. Yes ita an extra liability but at the same time we also have enough income to lead a high standard life... But some big houses are kept vacant(not even giving for rent)..This is actually a deinvestment for our economic growth...
Waste management is better than other Indian States.. But we have to work on it.. Agreeing with you sir.
And about strikes,I think non violent strikes are necessary in a democracy..And sir, here people are much aware of politics.. Even we discuss international politics😉
And as you said Alcohol issue is a major problem...We have to take it very seriously..
And the reason for Kerala being a consumer state in case of crops, fruits and vegetables is it's geography..
Sir, actually sharing mentality exists in Kerala long ago when we were having joint families.. But now as u can hardly find joint families everyone's mentality changes to self reliance..if we share anything like car or something also they won't accept it(prestigious issue😌) But anything severe to our humanity.. WE WILL STAND UNITED..
On Environmental issues I agree with u sir.. Our Govt should take care..
Night culture is normally not seen in Kerala..i think it is again because of our geographic and climatic conditions..
And Chappathi.. I found it somewhat senseless..
Despite all the negatives, praying to God to make me born in this small piece of land again.. KERALA❤ OUR ONE AND ONLY HOME..
Thanku for your valuable review sir ☺🙏🏼

    Hi
I really appreciate the criticism. 👍👍. Kuch cheezen hai Jo Aapne bilkul Sahi Kaha:-
    1) Apne budget se upar, padosi ya rishtedar ka Ghar dekhkar apna Ghar construction Karna. Yeh malayali ka bhram kab tootega mujhe pata nahi, Mera Ghar waise 110 Saal purana Ghar hai. Hamne isse aaj bhi maintain Karke rakha hai.
    2) Kerala mein shayad Aapne notice Kiya hoga ke joint families kam dikhenge. Mid 20th century se malayali society ka joint family system khatam ho Gaya. Aur sharing bhi band ho gayi.
    3) Waste management generally in Kerala is very good. It's unfortunate that in your municipality things aren't working properly.
    4) KYA KOI SOUTH INDIAN NORTH MEIN JAAKE IDLI NAHIN MILTA YEH KEH KAR COMPLAIN KARTA HAI?? We adjust with any conditions. So please don't complain about the quality of roti... Theek hai yahan North ka badhiya Tava roti ghee chadhaya hua nhi milta... Lekin milta toh hai Bhai... Hence I disagree with you on this point.🙂
    5) Alcohol consumption, Hartal culture and nature conservation par Jo baat kahi hai Aapne woh ji bilkul Sahi hai🙂
    Baaki Aapka video achaa laga..
    Keep posting new videos 👍👍👍

I think you are confused about the word ‘Chettan’. The word is a derivative form of ‘Jyeshta/Jyeshtan’. The Sanskrit word means the ‘elder’, but not necessarily an elder brother.
By the way most people in Kerala do not like to be called ‘Chettan’ by people from outside the state. They resent it. People from outside wrongly think it is a compliment.
