I'm 65 and just started playing disc golf last year. I learned to keep that wrist above the elbow watching a Uli upshot video. I could pretty much park the upshots every time. The last month or so my upshots started going a bit haywire. After watching this video I realized that I'm definitely using too many levers, aka not keeping my wrist up. Going out in an hour for some practice. My next problem is which of my 29 putters to use for upshots and which to putt with 😂 Thanks for the videos Robbie!!

Hey Robbie, been dropping a lot of comments on your older videos but they are just great. The weather is so nice that my local courses are packed. I’ve been practicing these 100-200ft shots in the park using the techniques you taught in this video and it HAS made a huge difference in my game. I take my basket and put in the trees or behind benches to practice different shot shapes. This has made me much more confident after less than ideal drives. Thanks again dude! You rule!

Great stuff Robbie. I've given away a bunch of putters to people new to disc golf, telling them to just throw that for a while; that it's a great way to learn. Then I walk away with my full bag, knowing that I didn't do that myself, but at the same time, being so reluctant to take the step back and relearn.
Well, after doing a bunch of early tournaments to get points for Am Worlds, which was my main goal for the year, I was thinking, maybe now is the perfect time to throw only putters. One of the keys for me is to have a goal in mind. I want to be a markedly better disc golfer for Worlds next year. So for me, this is a 9 or more month process. I think dialing back to putters only, for at least 3 months, or more, will be the foundation.
I think I can improve, and smooth out my form, get more consistent, improve my course management (big one there), and learn to be confident using the slowest disc to achieve the goal. If I wind up gaining distance on my mids and drivers as a result, well, that's great, but not the be all end all. If I gain accuracy and consistency, that's the ticket!
Funny thing, I thought I had a break in tournaments, but I decided to try to get in to The San Francisco Safari. When I told my wife, she said, "are you going to play it with putters only?"
I laughed at first, but then thought, hey, I'm committed to the process, so yes. Who knows how I'll do, but even if I finish dead last, it's going to be a bit like you said about bragging rights, the power play of showing up to the first tee with a bag of putters.

So newer player here, knew my arm speed wasn't great so I leaned in on mids and fairway drivers and would test the drivers occasionally to see if I got up to speed (got their in Feb after starting in Aug). But, I did keep 3 driver in my bag for specific shots and it is because no other disc in my bag could replicate those shots. So for the new players out there: have a reason for your discs for shots, don't just hope and pray, build confidence in you distance and shape. And as you progress your shot/distance/shape will change as you get better, and you have to reevaluate them and possibly up grade. A friend helped with a rounding issue recently and I've gained over 40 feet on my drive, which is cause me to have to disc down for shots so moving to a putter for some shots I'd use a mid on or using a mid when I'd use a fairway driver. Additionally my disks now act a little different because I can throw them faster so the shape happens at a different angle. Some discs need a little bit more hyzer now. But sucking to get better is great, and doing an all putter round had improve my game significantly. And I'll be doing another putter round this weekend to help improve my game, but also improve my friends game.

I was that old dude that you encouraged me to sign up for the Putting tournament. WoopWoop that was so fun.😎 Robbie, you’re great. You LISTENED to all my ranting and shared the best putting input I could ever have. As old an stubborn as I am, I still applied your wisdom 🦉 to the basket.😉 For real! Have fun with practice and it doesn’t even feel like practice. My up-shot practice game is, taking Ollie, the dog, for his run out at the pits behind my house. I have two putters… Pure&aPolecat, or Pure&aPig,orPure&aSonic. I find a target throw a backhand Pure shot, walk about half way there, find another target and throw a forehand Pig..and walk to my first putter and pick it up and repeat for a mile or so.I Mix it up, like throw forehand goin out and backhand on the way home.Ollie loves me 🐶.

I hated throwing putter upshots till I found yours and Mikes instructions about the wrist as a lever. The only thing I have to change is I use a pinch grip instead of power-grip when doing it. The power-grip causes my putters to go way right, but I'm slowly removing my reliance on side-arm up shots for these type of bent wrist putter shots. It also lets me run them more often because its easy to do nose up shots.

    Hi Robbie,
First of all, thank you so much for all your videos! I am new to disc golf (only about 4 months), and your videos have made literally all the difference in the world! They have taken me from being miserable, lost and wanting to give up and instead helped me grow and learn to enjoy it and how to improve.
After watching your videos on putting, I've made it a point to go out and get about 200 putts every day, and can now sink about 80% of my putts from 25ft and in! I am wanting to continue improving on this and as I slowly move out away from the basket, and in an attempt to get more strokes in, I was wondering.... When practicing my putts, can I use my other discs as well, or should I stick to practicing with the putters?

Josh's "out and in" approach arm swing works at 3/4 open to basket stance, i.e. you'll fire about 15-20 degrees left if you are sideways (fully closed) to basket, which you were, Robbie. Josh said he was "just barely showing" his shirt's left side chest logo to the basket, making him about 3/4 open. Or is that 1/2 open if sideways is fully closed? In photography, the pose is 3/4 view, I think?
Anyway, I tried Josh's swing yesterday a lot and it feels a bit strange but mostly resolves the sideways or straight, drivish or puttish, question on stance for close in approach shots. I used to look like T-1000 in his mortal molten metal vat trying to decide which stance until yesterday. Less crazy now. Thanks Josh.

Putters can be thrown nose up and often should be thrown a bit nose up. Also DO NOT POWERGRIP YOUR PUTTERS. OR at the very least try a fan grip, the deeper disc most likely comes out of your hand way cleaner. Some people can definately powergrip putters but not everyone. Just try to use a fan grip for putters for about a week, what do you have to lose?
