So you're telling me I've got a month and a half to finish my Bachelor's and Master's degrees _and_ get three years of job experience? Damn, might have to cram a bit for that :/
One can really tell you are very passionate about this one. Also if you cut off your legs in the right place you both qualify for body disability and for the perfect height.
I actually meet the requirements?! Pretty certain I would never get through, but it's worth a shot! When I was doing my degree (Aeronautics and Astronautics) people asked if I was trying to be an astronaut; answer back then was no because it seemed completely infeasible. But now...
OMG Who would know, I meet almost all those requirements!!! Awesome! Such dream opportunities make my job hunt more exciting or at least less dreadful. I think I'll apply, although I don't know what a chemical engineer could do in space... Never mind, dream big they say. Great video idea.
As someone doing a PhD in Chem currently (but can't apply because not a ESA citizen), I'm rooting for you to represent us test tubes and the natural sciences at large! And even if you don't get it, hopefully it'd be fun. All the best!
@@Willam_J NASA would censor that, and ESA would be upset about them deleting the uncensored version, if a certain episode with Andreas Mogensen is anything to go by.
I'm finishing my Master's right now, so I might try to apply next round. I doubt they'd select me, but even just the application process could be interesting.
When my dad was in the navy he would’ve had the perfect qualifications to be a space shuttle astronaut. He was scuba certified, practiced dive medicine for the navy and was a doctor. He worked on a sub, and was used to cramped spaces and being isolated for long periods of time. He never took any steps towards being an astronaut.
Damn, if only applications were open in about 8 years time. Just about to start a masters engineering course to hopefully become an RAF engineer. Let’s hope Ill be able to apply some point in the future 🤞
It’s too small a sample size to say anything for certain, but the gap between this round of astronaut hiring and the previous is significantly shorter than the gap between that one and the one before it.
Shit... Too tall...😅😅😅 And due to my build, I have a high BMI despite not being very overweight, and probably wouldn't fit in the Soyuz because of my shoulder width...😂😝
I will apply next time around if its in another 10 years. Will hopefully have a masters in engineering and a couple years of experience by then. Of the current criteria the one that worries me is the 190cm. Im somewhere in the mid to high 180s and might not actually be done yet. I think its rare for a guy to say that but I wish to not be any taller than I am right now.
You know, cutting off your feet could fix your height, BMI and give you a disability. If you did it yourself you would even become a medical practitioner.
I'm medically ineligible to be an (American) astronaut... I was diagnosed with T1D in undergrad, when I was otherwise at my top fitness and was starting to apply to graduate engineering programs. I've got a masters degree so far, will hopefully end up earning a PhD anyway (I still want to be a professor)
Wow, I am vastly under-qualified, even more than I expected to be. Seems that autism isn't the least of my worries (for once in my life). Which is a shame, I'd like to get off this shithole of a planet
So you're telling me I've got a month and a half to finish my Bachelor's and Master's degrees _and_ get three years of job experience? Damn, might have to cram a bit for that :/
The next call might be ten years from now and you'll have managed those by then.
Oh wow a class 2 medical that's less than I was expecting. For reference, a commerical pilot needs a class 1 medical that is much more strict.
These are just the minimum requirements to apply! There are more rigorous tests later on in the process :D
One can really tell you are very passionate about this one.
Also if you cut off your legs in the right place you both qualify for body disability and for the perfect height.
When Matt points out the height issue, the frustration in the air is almost tangible.
If you were able to get in you could have been Matt Zero G
Heck yeah, I like those requirements. I won't fit but hot damn I'm excited for some more "average" citizens in space.
I actually meet the requirements?! Pretty certain I would never get through, but it's worth a shot! When I was doing my degree (Aeronautics and Astronautics) people asked if I was trying to be an astronaut; answer back then was no because it seemed completely infeasible. But now...
Good luck!
It’s definitely worth a shot!
Apply. Worse comes to worse, you won’t become an astronaut, which is the same as you are now.
I'm only a few years off meeting all these, guess I'll just wait another decade or try founding Space Y in direct competition with Elon

Well shit, I could actually be an astronaut if I wanted to!

It's good to give it a try! Best of luck both on the astronaut app and on the last stretch of your Master's!
@@coffeestainedwreck Thanks!
I'm sure you're gonna be eligible. You've got new kidneys!
The parastronaut thing is lovely to see. Hope other space agencies move in this direction too.
It actually totally makes sense. There are a lot less physical restrictions in zero gravity.
Got everything except the 3 years of professional experience. I only have experience being an amateur 😔
Apply anyway!

That awkward moment when a Czech can apply and a Slovak can't. O_o
Got excited.
Saw the first requirement. 1:04
Well, not this time 😑
Cries in social scientist ;(. What if I want to analyse the societal dynamics in the ISS?
Just wanna say, you've become pretty good in explaining stuff, Matt! keep it up 👍
Oh this is awesome. I'm still a few years and one metric chronic illness away from qualifying, but that's amazing!
Well maybe I should get my driving licence after all...
Same.. I also should change my citizenship :D

@@ragnkja Yeah, imagine at some point in my lifetime it will be somewhat easier to becoming an astronaut. Maybe similar to becoming a commercial pilot
this was a fun video! I keep getting very excited about the idea of applying, even though I am ridiculously under qualified.
I am still on my master's degree. I hope to apply to the next application round.
It's interesting to see the small variations between the script in the captions and the words Matt actually says.
... can't believe the only thing stopping me from being an astronaut is being an economist

Bugger I'm too old :{
Not the only qualification I don't meet either but that's the worst one IMO.
Same, getting old sucks.
Wow, cool!
Maan, so close. If only I would have finished Uni faster. Maybe next time ^^
I wonder if I couldn't be accepted if one of my alternate personalities would.
Pretty sure that all your personalities would count as having a psychiatric disorder, so probably not!

The whole complex has to be considered together, since they share the same body.
you don't need to be a pilot but you do need to be a test pilot, which for those who are not either sound like the same thing.
Masters degree OR Test pilot. If you've got a degree, you dont need to be a pilot!

i`m still not qualified enough . damn why did i chose an art degree
i don´t know, but this video remember me about Space Brothers (Uchuu Kyoudai)

You should still try it.
Can you apply for Disabled Astronaut - Too Tall?
That height problem of yours can be solved * strokes hatchet *
GOOD HEAVENS I CAN BE AN ASTRONAUT!
Too bad, I'm too tall. And also still in uni so I'm not qualified anyway.
how tall is a matt?

Do they spinal tap?

they're still having BMI as a requirement 😳

If you're going to be maneuvering a spacecraft, don't you think a basic car should be a prerequisite?
You also have to be able to learn how to fly a plane.
