haha, so did I. I saw the tree coming but I didn't expect the squish.
I was just impressed by how cool it was. Him hitting the log broke the branch that the log was stuck in off the other tree, fell to the ground and hit the base of the tree which knocked that over causing it to fall on splat. Pretty sophisticated for such a simple looking game.

This game is awesome; it looks like your average survival early access title... but as you play it you discover layer upon layer of mechanics and it's already very deep.

@@meanbeanmachine9634 The game intentionally evokes the PS1 era and looks very good to me. Game looks are not about realism, polycounts or shading. It's about what works for your game and this works well.
Yeah the solid lighting works with the low res textures in a way that I find really aesthetically pleasing
Imagine finding out there's something after death and the first thing you do is punch a random, innocent bush into oblivion.

@@deebos980 yes. You can play with up to 10 people on a server in CO-OP. Their is an option to play pvp but they don't really expect people to play that way as the real challenge is the pve enemies.
I think the last time a game caught me in this bad was Fallout2. It's really wonderful to find that experience again.

Splat, there is a lot of complexity to this...tip regarding your complaint about grass not going away and poking through - if you make a hoe you can flatten and level terrain so there is no grass, THEN build.

So the Club is basically worthless as the Stone Axe does more damage, I like that, too many games nerf "tools" just to make the early weapons viable. I mean seriously what sounds more threatening to you? A stick or a stick with a rock attached to it?

here is the thing though the axe barely does anything to skeletons but the club does increased damage to them so when clearing tombs the weapon you want is a fully upgraded basic club as well as a shield so its still useful up until you get bronze and can make a proper mace to fulfil its job instead or until you get a fuck ton of dear heads and core wood to make the AOE hammer which is super useful for clearing early game dungeons

It really was a phenomenal game, I absolutely adored it. Did you ever get to the bottom of that endgame dungeon?
Splat, your videos are great and I really enjoy watching them! Many times I'm left wondering if the game is 3rd person only or if First Person is an option; or how good the player control is when just using a keyboard & mouse. If you could include these observations it would help us to determine if the game fits our preferred style of gameplay.
This is yet another game that popped out of nowhere for me, i guess I'm just not staying up to date on game news. I seen this #1 seller on steam yesterday but when reading it, it seems like it really is meant for group play and i play solo so didn't feel it would be a good game for me. Thinking ark survival. But seeing you play it, the solo play doesn't seem too bad. I'll just keep an eye on it's development to see where this goes. Looks cool, and an interesting art style.

Splat, this game is phenomenal. I've been playing for a few hours now and its great.
I have several performance issues with it. The game has a hidden FPS lock that seems to be based on GPU usage. so I was locked at 30 FPS even though my GPU was only at 70%, then I threw everythin to low and turned everything off, it went to 60 FPS, GPU never passsed 70ish % and the FPS fluctuated a lot between 60 and 45. Really weird

actually, beards played a big part in Norse culture, all the gods were depicted with beards. most men wanted to be like the gods, beards were a sign of manhood. actually, Loki was the only male Aseir that didn't have a beard.

Looks nice and all, but I don't get why there needs to be fireworks when you hit a bush with your fists.

@@rareraven It just seems overdone and it's an immersion killer to me. Hit a tree with an axe and you're not going to see an explosion of splinters. I prefer more realistic effects, but maybe that's just me. I like the vibe of the game's graphics otherwise.

It looks like just about every other survival/open world/building/crafting/etcetcetc game except with shitty graphics.
@@Unibot47 it's overwhelming on steam I guess. I've heard the coop is pretty fun , but man, my eyes, they are bleeding nails .
EDIT: I have actually changed my mind. I am still not 100% sold on the texture style, but the lighting is really nice and the game is...really fun somehow.. at least so far.
Just FYI, its pronounced VAL'HAIM not H'IME, nordic EIM words (Niffleheim, Jordheim) are frequently mispronounced.
Easy tip, just change the e in any word ending in eim to an A (aim as it is pronounced). Norse words only of course.
im 3 hours in an it reminds me of Elder Scrolls, Runescape, Ark and Zelda all smashed together with Thors hammer
You know. Honestly. I love the content and i am thankful you cover games to keep people informed shch as myself... but i am not impressed by this game so far. Im not a graphic person, but theres something about these ones that off put me. The building system looks clunky, and the combat looks very mediocre at best. These are my opinions, and i thank you for the content but i think ill be passing on this game. Maybe keep an eye on it to see if it evolves into something better.
That vikinf description fits fsr more with slavic raiders... Vikings most certainly had beards and had long hair. But just mustaches seems a bit far fetched.

Yep. The common wild boar aka Javalina/Razorback are a constant menace in New Mexico. Open season hunting all year with no license required. Same with rabbits. Good thing both are tasty eating.

Northmen typically had beards, but they didn't _all_ have over-the-top beards. All the literature I've read suggests such, which have been from various scandinavian historians. I had to go double check my understanding when you made that claim.

I've played a whole buncha survival games and each-and-every-one has had issues with the building pieces not snapping together well... no idea why...

The evolution of pigs is insane.
If you let tame pigs into the wild they WILL survive and they WILL become wild in a generation or 2 turning into wild hogs.
It is insane and explorers really made use of this fact when they travelled to places where they expected to stay for a few years.
Just let out a bunch of pigs and you will have food next year and even more the year after that.

If you make a garden hoe, you can raise and flaten dirt. Remove grass and make paths.. The mining pick will even make a hole in the dirt. You can dig!

angularity is definitely not the word you were looking for... it is just the noun form of angular. the proper way of saying it would to just say it is at a different angle. pitch can also be used to describe specifically how steep a roof is.

I'm loving this game so much. We are about a week in, and the deforestation from building our village has turned a thick patch of woods into rolling meadows.

game looks really fun and all but the art style really throws me off. I think the assets look great at medium and longer distances but as soon as you see anything up close its looks really bad.

Very cool ! I like the justification for re learning everything as remembering life in the material world, feels appropriate.
the mechanics look a tiny bit finicky but that's alright really, it's early access so it has lots of room to progress and in its current state it's quite engaging already.
