Zues: As punishment for your wicked and sacrilegious acts. I am turning you, your son and all your descendants into half men half wolves.
Mortals: Ummm could you have made them half sheep instead?
Just in time for Halloween. Could you do one on the origin of vampires? Or the story of the headless horseman?
The vampires origin?? Well their origin is a bit confusing since they had many many many roots that come from the ancient Egypt, Asia, Mesoamerica and Eastern Europe most likely!! Every place or country in this world has their own version of vampires!! Everyone say vampirism came from magic, demons or even deseases!! Only werewolves are the lucky ones with an original source!!
What a way to give punishment I mean Zeus can literally make him any harmless animal or pay for his prize by making him Chicken, Cow and Goat so that people eat him rather than the king eating others
Zeus: ''where's the fun in that?''
I knew that werewolves were in greek mythology, but to hear the origin is fascinating to me!
I like how people who are completely ignorant about Ancient Greece's culture and ideologies are rushing to call Zeus cruel, immoral and this punishment a "reward".
Lycaon lost his beauty, his blessings, his wealth, his prestige, his rank, his children, his kingdom, his people, his own humanity only to become a hideous, hated, regretting monster... if that's a reward then you can keep it.
Yes exactly. Lykaion stripped of his humanity and was forced to spend the rest of his life in a constant cycle of violence where either he kills to survive or he is killed and he could do nothing to stop it.
Interesting insight.
Ironically Arcadia where Lycaon rules is named after a son of Zeus who got turned into a bear
Yup I just learned that a little while ago pretty cool
Yeah cause arcus is the son of Zeus and calisto , who is lycaon's daughter
It came from greek methodology?
I was pretty sure it was like vampires and dragons. Stories from a lot of cultures, with one or two winners of popularity.
You know what a Greek mythology especially this story made me realize if the Romans or Greeks encountered people like the Aztecs it would have been a holy war to get rid of them because human sacrifice was just so horrible even for the Greeks and Romans
I mean your not wrong. The whole reason the Romans completely annihilated Carthage and salted the Earth there instead of just assimilating them like other conquered people was that the Romans for all their brutality were horrified that the Carthaginians practiced mass human sacrifice including of their own children to appease their gods. So the Romans didn’t give them a chance to surrender and just killed or enslaved them all.
The Greeks & Romans practiced human/animal sacrifice rituals too.
No bro, the king only practiced human sacrifices because that's what the Greeks did, greek mythology has many contributors that changed certain parts of the myths because they either didn't agree with it, or to make a proper canon, greek myth canon is so confusing because of its many retcons ands and renditions of the same story, while sometimes adhering and picking up after stories that were retconned
Wrong bc greeks too they did human sacrifices, if u know the history of the war of troy, the greeks sacrificed the king daughter just for good luck 💯 please know the history before saying any type of BS respectfully
@@LordOmnissiah This is wasn't the reason at all. These are Greek and roman propaganda against the cethagerinaings who buried their dead children instead of burning their bodies when they die the way the greeks and romans do. the early cult of Zeus cult in greece had a tradition of human sacrifice. so don't create some sort lies out of your head.
Hercules: ''Father, so you punished this king because he was, basically, a cannibal?''
Zeus: ''yes''
Hercules: ''By turning him into a bloodthirsty wolf monster that will eat animals and humans alike?''
Zeus: ''...uhm...yes, what's your point...Heracles?''
Hercules: ''Dad, come on. I told you I don't like that name''
Zeus: ''Now listen here son, we talked about this...''
I mean, he can be hunted like an animal now
He likes the Roman version of his name? 😂
@@katymbeke8400 greek version means " glory to Hera" the woman who make his life terrible
@@mehmetylmaz1831 I can see the “Hera” in Heracles, so I get the joke, but thanks for the extra info (not supposed to come off as condescending). It just paints Hercules as rebellious or misunderstood, and he’s probably both.
So this is why many people hated werewolves. Lycaon's a Complete Monster
In some versions, he slaughtered his youngest son named Nyctimus or even his own grandson Arcas who was the son of Callisto.
Lycaon certainly was the worst father as well as the worst grandfather towards Nyctimus and Arcas respectfully.
0:00 It was beautiful Greece.
0:38 His speech to all people of Arcadia and Statue of Zeus.
1:04 What the!? They kidnap people and making sacrifices.
1:30 Zeus in disguise as normal person and enter Palace to check it out.
2:22 Zeus was angered when he see they eating human flesh. Zeus transformed him into half man and half wolf.
3:09 Now the King transformed into creature as the Werewolf You can hear sound at night.
Amazing now that was a great story Zeus and Lycaon The Origin of the Werewolf Greek Mythology. They shouldn't do that they making sacrifice to kidnap people. Just because they don't like you. Is not the good look! This is terrible terrible evil deeds.
Zeus: I’m going to punish you for eating humans by turning you into a monster that eats humans. That’ll stop you from eating humans.
Greek gods solving problems by creating another type of problems ?
Um, Zeus, can you send this werewolf to Tartarus please? That would be great
In the original legend, it was actually Lycian’s youngest son who was served up as a meal for Zeus.
His name was Nyctimus...
Can you make a video the first halloween Samhain
That's a good story that's why people should always be nice to other people
and not eat them at dinner
In Norse mythology, it was considered a blessing to be a werewolf
But here in Greece and Rome, it was a punishment for angering the gods!
If Zeus is horrified. You know you fffed up.
Zeus is loved by his grandmother Titan and his grandfather Night and Darkness
The Gods can be very petty and cruel but they have standards .
No wonder werewolves warship Gaia but I didn’t hear anything about that in this video
So Zeus cursed them with superpowers? :/
Well he lost his throne, have to live in the Woods and can be killed by hunters so not really
❤🤍💙 all your videos mate👍
Are you French?
Let's hear the story of Nebuchadnezzar, the King of Babylon who became a werewolf
Hindi naging Taong Lobo si Nebuchadnezzar naging baliw siya nagkaroon siya ng mahabang balahibo ngunit hindi siya naging taong lobo
And when Zeus turned them into werewolves they attacked everyone else, even those innocent. Some great wisdom there, Zeus.
Here's a funny video idea how about you make mythology what if basically the stores in mythology if but what if they took a different turn
Like for example the story of Hephaestus trying to sleep with Athena but in that what if he would have gotten her pregnant
Religious fanatics haven’t changed much over the years, have they
Didn’t Lycaon have 50 sons? Thats a lot of wolves.
Finally, zeus visited earth in disguise and used his power for good, and did not produce any new offsprings.
I don't think turning the cannibals into blood thirsty beast was a good idea considering there out and about attacking, killing and eating people.
Not really good though. I don’t think he solved the issue lol instead Zeus just made a new mythological creature to terrorize humans.
He only transformed this evil but did not erase it.
This is my favorite Myth, based on one of my favorite types of monsters.
Lycaon reminded him of Kronos
muy bueno
So as you see people can like in is the first King lycaon is the first werewolves so werewolves do exist
One of the few stories where Zeus' actions are actually justified.
I really like Zeus 😮
🐺Lycaon, Wolf in Greek is Lýkos/λύκος
Lyaon --> Lycan???
The great story of the werewolf love it
Yeah so Zeus turned them into man eating wolves for eating human flesh and presenting those to him as hospitality. I was fascinated by Greek mythology because all the constellations in the sky were named after mythological characters of Greece. But when I dived into the stories, all I see is lust, envy and stupidity of gods. And the worse part is lower creatures and innocent ones have to suffer for their deeds. Anyway thank you for telling us those stories. Your presentation is so beautiful.
And don't get me wrong. I know they are just stories. But this is not the way to tell that the gods are superior beings and we are not.
Fantastic content!
This is not a punishment this is a reword
And the Greeks say how this story happened in what we call now 5000BC
Even the story of Atlantis being at war with Ancient Greeks back in roughly 10,000 BC ...
Ancient Greece.. ancient Europe is WAY older than what we know from conventional history.
That's why they took their language from the Canaanites in the Middle East. This is very strange
@user-cg2tw8pw7j the Canaanites (what we call them anyway) are a much more ancient peoples.. everything that we know of them anyway as far as our understanding of their origins that is, oddly lines up with the history of where what we call Hebrew peoples today.
There's strange correlations to all of this and it all goes back way longer than any of us truly know!
Hail Zeus Lykaios!
Classic old world gods, someone offends them so the innocents of the world must suffer for it.
This is my favorite Myth, based on one of my favorite types of monsters.
❤️❤️❤️
.
So... couldn't this be the origin of thinking someone is a dog if they serve somebody too much?
Lycaon could turn back human after the full moon? I'm sure the transformation was permanent, or else it wouldn't be that much of a punishment.
It didn’t say but I’m pretty sure that night the king was cursed was the night of the full moon.
I heard the story
It hits me so hard that the werewolves are not a result of Zeus' lust...
🐺
Why does God hate me?
Moi j adores les loups garous
2 facts
- LYCANS and WEREWOLVES are NOT THESAME BLOOD
- LYCANS have strength and power
WEREWOLVES have SPEED and AGILITY
So Zeus turned them into men-eating monsters because they kidnapping and eating people.............MAKE IT MAKE SENSE, ZEUS🤦
Zeus: Humans are monsters, man
.
Ang ibig sabihin ng lobo ay korapsyon pwede din ihalintulad ang korapsyon sa buwaya.
