When I was a kid I got a Fapinha Buggy with this engine. Run it a lot from 1979 to 1984. Never changed the oil. My father did it once in 1981 and never more! He teached me to clean the foam filter and oil it and I DID it several times. It only developed a piston slap, only at higher rpms when warmed up, perharps because of plugged rings... but still ran fine.
I believe Dad used Shell straight, conventional, SAE30 SF we had a pack of these bottles in the garage for years. With nowadays oils, it could go longer.
I've used this sprayer several times now on brick pavers, a wood deck, patio, and a driveway. ruclips.net/user/postUgkx43QMbQqu67IZadu9ou8Sg1BdrunMRNqX It has performed as expected on all surfaces. For larger areas like the decks and patios, I think I will be looking into a surface cleaner attachment to speed up the job, or at least make it a little easier. Hose and sprayer connections are tool-less, tight, and quick. I used the yellow nozzle on the concrete/brick surfaces, and the pressure was adequate for cleaning those surfaces.I am disappointed that these units are still being shipped with a nozzle storage holder that allows them to vibrate out of the holder way too easily and become lost, but I don't want to knock off a star for that reason. The functional part of the washer works very well, so I would recommend this product.
I was told by the Honda dealer that my GX160 engine could not be started because of "low oil not set correctly". Is this true? In addition, does this mean if the oil level gets too low in the future the engine cannot be started? I've never heard of such a thing but that's what they're telling me.
Hi Scott, when the oil alert is low on oil it grounds the coil, and in turn will not let the engine start until oil level is readjusted to the correct oil level. Thanks
@@AIE When I got the GX160, I didn't read the manual. Duh. It only states a half dozen times that the oil level must be full. Read the manual? That might have helped. Took it to a local Honda dealer and they told me exactly what you've stated, low engine oil. They just taught this "old dog a new trick". I guess I'll read the darn manual next time!! Thank you for the response.
Hey Alexander, It is an oil plug as well, it just doesn't have a dipstick like the grey one has. It is meant to remove so you can put the dipstick in either place for ease of checking the oil. Hope that helps!
Maybe a bit late, but the one of the dipsticks has a level indicator (I think the grey one) used to check oil level and condition. The other one is just to fill it up I think.
Thanks for the video. Is a gx 160 a 5 horse? Also my Honda has two oil fill ports one has a dip stick and the other Don't. One is white and the other is grey??
@@danhelphrey744 it’s just another oil cap depending what side is easier to get to on the engine is the one to use. One has a dip stick the other is just a black cap. You can switch the caps around depending on what you have the engine fitted to.
A few comments: 1) Best practice during oil changes is to wear rubber gloves to reduce exposure to used oil that contains known carcinogens 2) The crush washer on the oil drain plug should be changed at each oil change. There wasn't even any mention of that washer in this video. 3) The video is misleading where it shows a common non-torque ratchet wrench while stating to "use your ratchet to tighten the oil drain plug to 13 ft-lbs". A torque wrench (not shown) must be used in this step, and a lot of folks who watch this video might be new to self-maintenance and not understand the difference between what's being said and what's being shown in the video.
#1 Personal preference, Unnecessary, especially for a low maintenance motor like this, you won't even get your fingers dirty with the oil out of this sump. #2 You're more or less right, he mentioned 're-insert the drain plug washer and tighten it by hand' while holding the drain plug with an aluminum crush washer at 1:46. My advice with a $150 motor that you can easily pick up and inspect, If it doesn't leak - Who cares? #3 If you're using a torque wrench for the drain plug on a 5.5hp motor that's overkill. Hey, sure go ahead if you've even got a little 1/4" torque wrench that'll do 13 ft-lbs, but that's just a bit more than finger tight. 15 or 20 or even 30 ft-lbs will NOT crack the block like he says. We're not dealing with inaccessible, multi-million dollar machinery here, its a $150 motor that you can toss in the air like a baby.
If you need to use a torque ratchet to do up such a small nut maybe they should not be doing the service. Hand tight is fine. We have just been without power for 5 days and I have two of these engines In My generators and both have just run 15 hours a day for 5 days on the trot without missing a beat. Just serviced them 😁

Hello there. In my honda manual it says to use "API SE or later (or equivalent)". I have API SJ/CF 10w-30 4 stroke engine oil. Is it fine?
Does the band of the oil matter. I know you want to use sae10w30, but i don't think the brand of the oil matters
Any brand name should work out just fine. Thanks for your question.

How is this helpful when there are no maximum line on the dip stick and he didn’t mention anything about it !!!!????
@@endtimes2 did you not listen to any of the video?
Can you over fill the oil?? What happens when you do and how to fix????
2 questions.
Can i add Lucas oil stabilizer to the oil?
Can i use 93 octane gasoline on this motor or on any small engine like kohler?
Juan, we recommend using only Honda brand lubricants as to not compromise your unit’s performance and safety.

The oil fill cap does not measure the oil. When the oil is at the top of the threads in the fill port, it is full.
Thank you!
Takes a tad more than 1/2 qt. 0.61 qts. 30 or 10w30
how does an oil reserve connect to the engine? does the reserve and the main tank both have to be drained?
how often should you change spark plug
