Friends, While I totally enjoy William Gibson’s seemingly effortless comfort level with envisioning the human-technology interface, the thing that keeps me reading and rereading his books is the strength and overarching humanity of his amazing CHARACTERS! Please don’t ANYONE stop at “Neuromancer” and think you’ve really experienced more than the merest taste (a very delicious taste, admittedly!) of the Gibson oeuvre! Did you know that: - Most of his work is written in trilogies? My fave is perhaps the “Virtual Light”/“Idoru”/“All Tomorrow’s Parties,” trio, but they ALL totally bring it! - The first volume of his most recent trilogy, “The Peripheral,” (“The Peripheral”/“Agency”/“yet to be in print”) is in current release as a series on Amazon Prime! So while I can only applaud everyone who starts out with the most wonderful “Neuromancer,” understand that you are only scratching the surface of the “Gibson-verse!” I’d say read ‘em all, and preferably in order (though I didn’t, and yet I totally drank the kool-aid, they read just fine as “stand alones!”)… Again, I believe Mr. Gibson’s characters will stand comparison to ANY in fiction, from ANY author! But then, I TOTALLY drank the happy hemlock, so see how it works for you… - Happy Amazing Reads! Glenn C. B. Jones
@@velo-zaraptor Copy that, dear Velo fellow! And with the two subsequent follow ups, “Spook Country,” and “Zero History,” we may have my all time favorite Gibson trilogy (the character “Milgram,” is just off the charts!), although “Virtual Light”/“Idoru”/“All Tomorrow’s Parties,” certainly gives it a run for it’s money, tell you what! I’ve gone full circle, and I’m currently now rereading his fabulous “Neuromancer,” for about the 3rd time… Still waiting for the sequel to “The Peripheral” and “Agency”… so let me know if you hear of that being published, and the (hoped for!) accompanying book tour! I appreciate your reply, “zaraptor!” It gets kind of bereft of bibliophiles out here on this prairie desert island out here in East Dakota… Happy Hyper-Patriotic Day, and British Election Day, and Cancer sign birthdays! PS: Feel free to say you heard it here first, but, in my timeline at the very least, the next US President will be Marianne Williamson… “Marianne2024.com”… check it out, pilgrims! - XOXOXO!
@mexcurmudgeon If nothing else, he's given us quite a few terms we've added to our every day language, including a the name of a major American corporation...and I'm pretty sure he's a Steely Dan fan...
I don't remember what kind of comment I wanted to make when I bookmarked this vid many months ago but I probably wanted to say that this place looks like the toronto library downtown. Great interview though. Watched a lot of gibs interviews. Always pretty entertaining.
Hey MG, No, with the possible exception of “The Difference Engine,” which he co-wrote with Bruce Sterling, none of Gibson’s work could in any way be considered “steampunk,” though I do believe that “The Difference Engine,” would, at least in a few ways… that said, it’s not among my favorites. I sold my copy years ago in a garage sale (of course NOW I’d snap up a copy, just to have towards my goal of EVENTUALLY having EVERYTHING in any way related to William Gibson, in 1st Editions with dust jackets, as possible!)! Best, Glenn
Those questions were sooooo painful to listen to! I feel bad for him hahaha. She could have at least picked up the first issue of Mondo 2000 before asking him anything. At least he was eloquent in the way that he corrected and responded to her questions.
I really dig how how much detail he puts into a scene.
Wtf watch mojo?! This is the last place I expected to see something like this.

I'm reading Count Zero for the first time and OMG I'm floored. He makes the reading median pop so well in my 🧠
Pattern Recognition is also great

A watchmojo video with effort? Damn 2010 was an interesting time.
The true heir of Cyberpunk... Sadly not recognized with the new game.

What the fuck is watchmojo doing interviewing william gibson.

Someone described his books as Steampunk? That can't be right...
Probably on about The Difference Engine, a book he did with Bruce Sterling. That single book started steampunk, damn good read too
.

Haha, I applaud him for not completely scoffing in her face with how dreadful and low level her questions were.
SimonGrowl Why are you being mean?
