- With a price tag starting at $120,000 and a chassis that dates back to 1979, the Mercedes-Benz G550 is like no other S.U.V. on the road. Or off of it. Tom Voelk reviews the G550 optioned up to the 123K level.
Just binge watched your channel. Each video is better than the last. Looking forward to more.
This is my dream car! I can't wait to buy this car when I'm older! I'm determined :)!
Carly Kennedy I believe in you!
Same here
v pal good luck! Hows the progress going??
Just stay in school
For me one of the best cars in the world! Simply Brutal Class G .. G500..G63 AMG..G65 AMG !! Forever MBenz G Class or Gelandewagen !! Congratulations on the video of such a wonder.
Always look forward to your videos.
Excellent job as always.
That's a beautiful vehicle ....G-Class. Has a classic feel to it. Analog all day!
I've always loved G-Wagons. Hopefully, they're still around when or if I'll be able to afford one.
While expensive to maintain, second hand ones aren't too bad, due to the large depreciation in the first few years.
Amazing Tom! Keep up the good work. G-class is such an awesome vehicle. Still feel as if it's underrated.
G-Wagons are quite popular in Bellevue. Usually see several a week at work. Great channel as well. It's great to see a Seattlelite getting up in popularity. Always enjoy your videos and seeing what areas you do your reviews at. :)
This would be a good competitor to the Jeep Wrangler if Mercedes made the price point more accessible. I guess the G wagon can command the $123,000 price tag and exclusivity. Up here in Canada they sell an AMG G 65 4Matic with a V12 and an AMG G 63 4Matic biturbo V8 as well. Once again great review Tom. I look forward to your next.
love your reviews, Tom. and somehow i knew when that TP started sliding when you first loaded it that we hadnt seen the last of that load. haha!
always great videos!!!!! thank you!!!!! keep up the amazing work!!
Thanks David! There's some cool stuff in the pipeline.
You may have answered this already, but what happens with all of the TP you buy?
The nice folks at Costco are nice enough to play along with my gag. I bring it back. Some trivia- I shoot this at Warehouse #1, the site of the very first Costco (though the original building was torn down to build a new one where the parking lot once was). A piece of the original wall is on display inside the new building.
Wait, no push button start? I know is a small thing but like at that price point it should be
dygardion 91 that feature is not offered in this car.
I like your style of review. Well done. Congratulation on a new subscriber.
Love your videos! How's the ride quality?
It's very poor, trust me.
Thanks, Tom.
Do you see any cruising the streets of Seattle?
Yup. I saw two in the neighborhood where we were shooting running footage. Lots of money in Seattle though people tend to be very low key with their cars.
Very similar to how it is in a nearby upscale neighbourhood here in Toronto. Lots of 3--6M homes with $30-50,000 cars. Probably 80-90%. Rest being the usual Benz, BMW, Audi, Porsches a few Ferrari's...Goes to show when you got it you don't need to SHOW with the car you drive. Oddly it's in "affordable" condo units 10 minutes agway that you see a slightly higher ratio of high-end cars vs "average". A condo where I wouldn't have expected to see $80k Benz SUV, Jag F-Type S...etc. Guess most go by the "gotta have it now credo" :P
Dunno if I've seen a G wagon. Not that popular in this area. In the neighborhood maybe once a month. Most don''t go for the boxy shape. Which for me is why I WOULD buy a G wagon. Only have a problem with the steering feel. If only you could "tighten" the needed amount of turn of the wheel to make the turn. More precision instead of vagueness.
The new 2017 Land Rover Discovery would be a 2nd choice. If only they didn't FWD slant the rear face like they have and kept it almost as upright as the previously in production LR4.
I live in Seattle, and they're EVERYWHERE haha
Congrats on the drone!
What's the experience having that windshield so close? It looks closer than a Jeep Wrangler. Is there an advantage having it that close? Once again, a great review!
Another great review!
how long did it take you to make that basketball shot?
Those were my only two shots, I swear. And I was about 6 feet outside the car shooting over my camera. I know how LeBron feels...
Like a champion? 😎
Tom, please review 2016 Dodge Durango RT - Blacktop... ))
is it mercedes or pt cruiser
The favorite car of Dubai royalty.
6:44 like a scene from "Family guy" 😀
Refilm with G65!
I’ll get a G65 and probably drive way to fast and get myself wrapped around a tree but it’s fine😂
G wagon does not wrap around a tree
4:04 Remember kids, smoking can be hazardous to your health.
I told my kids it was for used gum.
Finally
I own one it’s time to upgrade to AMG
haven't seen your evil twin recently??
He's in jail.
+Driven Car Reviews Being evil.
16 Packs? Jesus Christ lol!
I really enjoy your videos, Tom. I do hate the G-wagen, though. What a stupid car by today's standards!
Standards cannot be applied to the extraordinary. A G buyer isn't interested in a pedestrian little 4 cylinder hatch anymore today than he was back in 1979. That is how the G has been able to stand the test of time; remaining relevant despite going largely unchanged. And, that is precisely why it is sought after by a select few who are willing to pay a premium for the privilege of owning something truly unique.
It's neither extraordinary nor unique in any way. In Eastern Europe, where I reside, they are everywhere, and the only reason people drive the G-wagen is to intimidate others on the road, or so they think. Quite why you would want to sacrifice comfort, handling, economy and ecology for the illusion of scaring some poor bloke in a 15 year old hatchback is beyond me. As I said, It's a stupid car.
That is tragic in a Mission Impossible II sort of a way. But, then you can relate to how we feel here in the States when we talk aboout the proliferation of douchebags tootling around in Audis and Teslas. And, how by contrast, the rarity and heritage of a car like a G lends special cache to its owner by default; even if he too is, well a tool. Cheers.
It's probably the rarity that instills love/respect for a certain car. If I see a Vette on the streets of my city, I will admire it for a good 15 minutes, even though it's not a very good car. That's because you almost never see them over here. By contrast, the 911 is head and shoulder above the Vette, but since it's so ubiquitous, I hardly notice them.
Alexandr Umanetz You make a very good point. We consider the 911 an icon here. They are plentiful in number but, still rare enough to catch your eye. I don't know if you've seen the new Vette and 2016 Camaro for that matter. Vast strides have been made in quality. The interiors are especially impressive. Though, I concede the American sports car will always be more brutish as compared to its more refined Euro brethren.
I'd rather buy a fully loaded LR RR Autobiography.
