José Alberto Tamayo Díaz “EL Ruiseñor”
A native of Sierra Maestra in the Eastern part of Cuba, singer, composer and arranger José Alberto Tamayo Díaz is better known as José Alberto “El Ruiseñor”. He was born into a musical family, his father was a tres player and his mother a singer. His professional singing career began at the age of 14 in the band “Grupo Rock Lasser”. Now in his 50s he has become a symbol of Bayamo and Eastern Cuba and is celebrating. During his professional life he has shared stages with many national and International artists and has toured the world with them, including: Elena Burque (Carnival 1995), José Valladares (Santiago de Cuba Carnival 1997), Celina González, Dan Den, Original de Manzanillo, Adalberto Álvarez (Bayamo Carnival 1998), Anacaona (Carnival 1999), Cándido Fabré, Mundito González, Rebeca Martínez (Carnival Manzanillo 1999), Manolito Simonet (Carnival Bayamo 2001). More recently he has performed with national artists such as Coco Friman, Marielena Peña, Rojitas, Van Van, Los Zafiros, Miriam Hernández, amongst others, and internationally with the Girls of the Can, Duo Almendras (Canada, 2000), SongByFour, Mariache 2000 (group - companion of Luis Miguel), Latin Dimension, Oscar de León, Barrí Tatita, Omara Portuondo, Eliades Ochoa y la compañía de Danza Habana AllStars.
During his long artistic life El Ruiseñor has achieved great national and international recognition as an outstanding singer including the “Festival de la canción in Toronto” in Canada in 2000 and in 2011 he was recognized as best artist of the year in Ecuador.
He is the most internationally awarded solo vocalist of Granma and his vocal interpretations have been enjoyed in Spain, Canada, Russia, Mexico, Jamaica, Colombia, Peru, Panama, Ecuador, Martinique, Guyana and Guadeloupe. In Granma he has received awards at the “Sindo Garay” festival in various years as well as in competitions on the theme of Carnival and won an award of maximum recognition of the UNEAC in Granma.
Currently he performs every Saturday in the main street of Bayamo where the road is closed and turned into a street night club with seating and food.
He got Grammy nomination for his first album with Tumi Music “Mi Tumbao”
In 2020, he returned with his amazing album “Salsa Legend” interpreting some of the most well-known salsa melodies.
Guajiro Sonero is his 3rd. Album with Tumi Music exploring the roots of son.

Nació en una familia de músicos, su padre era tresero y su madre cantante. Su carrera como cantante profesional comenzó a la edad de 14 años en la banda “Grupo Rock Lasser”.
Ahora a sus 50 años se ha convertido en un símbolo de Bayamo y el Oriente cubano y lo está celebrando. Durante su larga vida artística El Ruiseñor ha logrado grandes reconocimientos nacionales e internacionales como un destacado cantante incluyendo el “Festival de la canción de Toronto” en Canadá en el 2000 y en el 2011 fue reconocido como el mejor artista del año en Ecuador.
Es el solista de Granma más premiado internacionalmente y sus interpretaciones vocales han sido disfrutadas en España, Canadá, Rusia, México, Jamaica, Colombia, Perú, Panamá, Ecuador, Martinica, Guyan
