    Hey Dante, 1st completely agree with you man! ( Isn't it crazy how long ago you made that video on why Manga Sells /Comics Smells!)
    I would like to add on some ideas America could do to help improve sales.
    Maybe push for comics& anthology books to be recycled with the cheaper newsprint.( worked wonders for Japan).
    Create Anthologies featuring favorite artists for a limited run.
    Bring back cross promotion titles such as comics including ( see issue blah blah blah) to urge readers to re-read said title.
    Stop or at least limit the # of times a title gets a #1. Its getting old and doesn't help with anything and just confuses everyone!
    Also...
    *I used to think Old Obi wan is what God looks like*

    I'm both a Manga reader and Comics reader
    but more of a Manga reader (70/40) not by much but still read both
    sorry bad at English, ask me anything if you want
    I tried to find out why manga readers don't care about comics, and here what I found
    1. The art, they just like the manga style more
    2. they have no idea where to start, their easy to pick comics like Saga and Paper girl without all the events and cross-overs but the big names are the one that will give you so much hard time to pick DC and Marvel
    3. Price
    4. Manga fallow the anime story 97% there rare thing that doesn't make it, mostly jokes, so when you watch a 12 episode anime and want to know what will happen next read the manga, I know many manga sites that tell you where to start after the anime end.
    5. The movies and nothing like the comic, I watched Thor movie but he is a girl in the comic, Captain America is alive and Spiderman is old and many other things, Movies will not help the comics.
    6. Manga are weekly so the drama build up much faster
    7. Fan service, Let face the ugly truth, Power girl will sell so will if the early 2000's look come back today, sex sell
    8. Looks great on the shelves, bulky books that look nice on the shelves and great collectables, comics need ugly while boxes
    9. there so many people who buy few books a year and that all, in manga you can buy one series and that all but COMICS no why you must read all 7 spiderman titles and if there is an event you need to read all that too, and reading order can be hard for noobs
    10. Endings, Comicbooks doesn't end most of the time, Demon slayer was a manga base on popular anime that just got ended, most Manga readers I know wait tell I series and then buy it all at once, if you think the 80k copy is crazy wait tell one piece is over that will be at last 500k in one year.
    it's just knowing fact for us when a manga is over the number go crazy up. and add the fact that DS is so god dame popular

    Here's a question for you Dante, as well as anyone here in the comments section...Do you think comics should cut down the # of titles released similar to The New 52 or let it be as is, where if a titles sales are low, cancel it?

    • @Dante19883
      @Dante19883  3 года назад +1

      That’s a great question. Honestly, I think the best thing to do would be to group poor selling titles together into an anthology. Just because a title doesn’t sell on its own, doesn’t mean it would do well as part of something bigger. For example, I was upset when they cancelled I,Vampire in the new 52. I loved that book. They could have kept it going if they published it in an anthology. Cancelling is a problem I think, especially for DC who really only sells Batman books. Group the other less popular characters together and they just may increase in popularity

    Manga industry is like battle royal, they didn't get the job but they earn it, to get your manga publish you have to compete with other mangaka To have their work published in anthology magazine, although their work has been published in anthology magazines, they still have to compete with other mangaka in the magazine in popularity, the unpopular manga will be immediately canceled, the best manga will be published as a book and even then they have to compete with other manga books by other mangaka, but Just because your manga is published in a book doesn't mean your manga won't be canceled, if sales are bad they get axed, that's why only the best from the best that can be made into a book n had long running manga, meanwhile at American comics, publishers pay people to do their comics, they get jobs because publishers hire them

    I have another good tip: TELL OTHER STORIES BESIDES SUPERHEROES.
    One of the reasons people are reading more Manga than Comics is because Manga has a much bigger variety of stories in comparison with Comics. You literally have at least one Manga for almost every single genre of fiction in existence, while Comics, it's Superheroes, Superheroes and more Superheroes. Don't get me wrong, Superheroes are great but it gets to the point where people get fed up and want something different. There are so many creative minds spread across all states and territories of the United States of America who want to write and/or draw non-Superhero stories, many of them probably being very interesting and captivating stories, but don't get any support because "They're not Superhero stories. Nobody's interested in these non-Superhero stories. We want Superheroes, dammit! They sell!". Fortunately, Indie Comics are flourishing, and so is crowdfunding, and that is giving these people total freedom to just write/draw whatever the hell they want, which is awesome, but it wouldn't hurt if big companies like DC and Marvel tried to tell other (or more) stories besides Superheroes.

    • @Dante19883
      @Dante19883  3 года назад

      Actually, that’s a great suggestion. There are so many other stories to tell. They used to branch out more in the past but have seemed to stop doing that

    • @tiagobettencourt9151
      @tiagobettencourt9151 3 года назад

      @@Dante19883 I think that had something to do with the Comics Code. For the time, most genres (like Horror and Romance) were considered too violent or too inappropriate for children and they wanted better role models, and that's why Superheroes became the norm.
      That or because Superheroes sold more and they decided to be lazy and double down on Superheroes because MONEY 🤑💰🪙💲lol

    Your ideas sound more like they are to boost revenue not increase sales. I would be less likely to buy a comic that seems cheaply made for the same price - which is why these companies are worried about making their product look cheaper without actually making them cost less.
    If I am getting a slick beautiful glossy print publication with fabulous art from DC and Marvel’s latest book is on news print, cheap paper but costs the same, I would feel ripped off to buy the Marvel book.
    So if they decrease the print quality they would have to also decrease the comic cost which could mean losing all the money they saved by going with cheaper paper.
    I worked in print journalism for most of my adult life and making print pay the bills is very tricky.
    But they certainly could be doing more to increase their sales. Something needs to change . Perhaps going with your proposal on some experimental publications that are big attention getters - like a big crossover that everyone wants to get regardless of the paper quality - and maybe they can ease their customers into the change ?

    • @Dante19883
      @Dante19883  3 года назад

      Good points there! I think I just kind of want comics to go back to their roots as cheap thrills and pulp. Comics were cheap and in anthologies in the 30s and 40s. I think it would be good to have some cheaper alternative and then print the TPBs in high quality. Whatever they do, something needs to change because the monthly sales reduce every year. Thanks for watching and commenting!

    Get serious. That's how. Think about it. Manga sales outdo comic sales, but how many people read manga who read comics and vice versa? Not many. So manga is a separate market. That means comic creators lost their own customers on their own. It's their own fault.

    You're probably the only person on earth claiming this is the worst time for comic book sales in history. Fact is, market prices are at their all-time highest. Also, you're using trade paperback sales as your evidence to support comic book sales claims. Trade paperbacks (aka reprints) have never sold like comic books (first prints).

    • @blackjack0226
      @blackjack0226 3 года назад +2

      Because manga sales in Japan are counted for tankobon (collected editions) as opposed to American comics. Also, those selling are back issues specially in the Bronze Age at the most. Key issues specially tying into a TV or movie series also sells. But how about the other books? They are very expensive and are littered with Political agendas.

    • @Dante19883
      @Dante19883  3 года назад +2

      I respectfully disagree with you. Yes I used tpb sales as an example, but comic book sales are not any better comparatively speaking especially when you consider the figures over the past 80 yrs. Yes times have changed and people have access to other forms of entertainment, but it was not uncommon for a popular title to sell millions of copies per month.
      Even in the 90s books sold a heck of a lot more. Up to a million for a popular title averaging around 500 000. Yes,driven by speculation, but high sales nevertheless.
      Today even with pathetic gimmicks that industry tries to fuel speculation, a popular book like Batman is lucky to average 150k-250k copies per month. The highest selling book in the last 10 years has been Star Wars #1 in 2015 with 500k copies. The sales quickly plummeted with the next issue after the hype was over.
      Major layoffs at DC comics nowadays.
      AT&T and Disney keep comic books printing as a write off. The truth is they don’t care about comic books. The big money with superhero properties for them is in shows, movies and merchandise.
      So unless doc Emmett Brown let you borrow the DeLorean and you came from 1985 to visit 2021 for a day, I don’t know how you can seriously posit that Comic book sales are good.

    • @Dante19883
      @Dante19883  3 года назад +2

      Now if you are talking sales with respect to collectible comics, that is a different story. People are collecting like mad nowadays, but most often they look to books from days way looong passed. The collectors market and the actual comic book market for books released monthly are two completely different things. I’m talking about comic books released monthly in this video, not the collectors market. Thanks for commenting

    • @Dante19883
      @Dante19883  3 года назад +2

      That’s what I’m saying... yeah the collectors market is hot, but if anyone looks on diamond comics’ website at monthly sales, they’ll see that new comics don’t sell well when compared to monthly sales in the past
