What are your thoughts on abandoning your truck? Drop your thoughts down below.
The first video I watched about truck abandonment was one from June 2020 titled “Abandoning your truck? The kiss of death for a truck driving career!,” with the Smart Trucking RUclips man, based in a rural part of Canada’s Ontario province, The author of that video. It’s not good the truck abandonment has been a common problem across Canada and the contiguous US but it is good that’s been talked about. In that video he claimed of there having been ways for disgruntled truck drivers to give notice about quitting on the companies for which they were working that would still involve returning any equipment to a terminal owned and operated by the relevant company. If I were thinking of quitting a trucking company, I would definitely want to return any equipment owned by the company in my possession too a terminal owner operated by that company and have that company sign off that the relevant truck had been cleaned out of my stuff and that the company, from that point onward, would be responsible for the condition of the vehicle.
i left my truck at the truck stop cause company did not pay me for 7 week had to take out advances. and they wanted to leave me stranded cause i gave them 2 week notice
I have a problem with a driver now he work for me 4 days and he left truck in Ohio on truck stop how I can get money from that driver for all what he did I need to take lawyer or something else
Ive never abandoned a truck but i definitely understand why someone would. Most of these "reputable" companies are scammers and there are no consequences to them
This company I'm working for now scam me now I'm sitting at a truck stop with no help from them getting there truck back..what should I do I'm asking for loads to get there truck back
90 percent of abandonments are caused by pay issues or home time.
That's why it's so important to treat drivers with the respect they deserve!
thats my situation right now im about to quit trucking all together
Instead of demonizing the driver for abandoning atruck let's ask questions why he felt compelled to do this in the first place
We understand that there are many circumstances where you may feel trapped. Just know that whatever actions you decide to take will impact your opportunities in the future.
@@OverTheRoadATS it didn't affect mine. I can get a job anywhere. This is why I tell people to stay clear of ATS because ya'll are real to demonize drivers and make every attempt to ruin their driving career. Also you should never drive for a company that is self-insured just like ats
@@daviddrake9798Exactly all the big carriers ruin the industry. They make drivers slaves first and then after they mistreat them. They then label them untouchable. Nova Lines, Prime, Montgomery, they all do it. Total garbage and they wonder why people don't stay in the industry.
@daviddrake9798 the problem is the industry not the drivers. It's weird that an industry with such a high turnover rate always blames it on the driver when they are the ones losing their employees. It never occurs to them that maybe they are the problem
best piece of advice about abandoning a truck JUST DO NOT DO IT if you do not want to take it to the turminal make arangement with the company to have a driver come and get it if you do abandon the truck the company could come after you in court if something happens to it there could be leagal and criminal ramifications if you do
Agree! If you can avoid it, please don't abandon your truck.
They always blame the driver for everything. The companies have no accountability or care. Just aways keep that in mind before you hit the road.
Sorry to here that, at ATS we pride ourselves on being accountable to our Drivers and work hard to keep them on the road!
At ATS they will lie on the DAC report through higher right even though the drivers have proof that they are lying such as overturned vehicles ATS are very unprofessional and they line the pockets of local and federal authorities
If you get a false abandonment on your record sue the company for defamation. I did and it works, they are liable for defaming you and ruining job prospects.
That's valuable advice, and it's great to hear that you took action to address the false abandonment mark on your record and were successful in doing so through legal means.
What kind of lawyers you need for that? I have a little situation with a company… I have proof that I returned the truck and everything. But other companies still refusing to hire me, because of their comment of abandoning truck.
What would be a right time to leave a truck behind after not getting paid for 3 weeks ?? CAN YOU PLS MAKE A VIDEO ON THAT SO THAT DRIVERS ALSO HAVE KNOWLEDGE OF THEIR RIGHTS UNDER THE LABOR LAWS thank you
We recommend that you NEVER abandon a truck. It'll stay on your record and haunt you. Just return it and put in your notice.
As for the labor laws, good idea! We'll start planning a video on that soon.
Labor laws will save my license
Are these ”reputable companies” lease purchase programs? A study conducted by Truck Leasing Task Force, a DOT research group found that lease purchase plans rarely favor drivers.
There’s a lawsuit filed against Super Ego holdings and associated companies for this exactly. I also hope MB Global Logistics in Addison, Illinois has their day in court. They falsely advertise $2,500+ weekly and here I’m making less than minimum wage trying to survive on peanuts.
I’ve been through two lease programs in the span of a year before I realized I will never succeed in this industry, none of which had to do with my work ethic.
I always bring the trucks back to the yard never abandoned them because I wouldn’t want someone doing that to me and it cost money ... but I’m in an situation where this scamming company I’m with is refused to give me an load back to the yard , and also said if I decided to drive back to the yard ,They will report it stolen and also said that I will not receive my paycheck as well, as for right now they can keep that check they been cheating me out miles and shorting me on money, I just want to leave and go home to my kids I haven’t saw them for 3 months now because this company is refusing to let me go home. I feel like they keeping me hostage, so they can make money off of me. I’m asking for help what I need to do
Document everything you can. Talk with them in writing letting them know your expectations. We would never tell you to abandon a truck but we can say the more you document the better you are to explain the situation to your next carrier. We have had drivers that have shown us text conversations proving they stuck in a bad situation and we did not use it against them. but the best thing you can do is get them to get you to the yard.
Who u with super ego
I am quitting mine except it’s been about 6 months for me.
I work for a eastern European lease operations fleet, my concern is when I announce that I'm ending my lease, that they may retaliate by deactivating my fuel card at great distance from their terminal thus coercing me to abandon the truck under duress.
Consider addressing your concern with the leasing company upfront to ensure a smooth transition when ending your lease. It's in both parties' interests to ensure a fair and transparent process.
I left my truck at a shop while broken down. This was within a month of starting the company and having multiple break downs in this time. They kept promising to get me in a different truck and never did. I was told to by the company to leave it there and they would get me a rental car back to Birmingham to get a different truck that they had ready. After them getting me the rental car and me driving all the way to Alabama. They called and said the truck they said was ready wasnt ready. They told me to drive to my house in Tampa, Florida in the rental car. They told me they would get me to Birmingham to get another truck whem one was ready. When i got home after nothing but problems with the company, I turned in the rental car and resigned. They then put truck abandonment on my record. This is crazy because they told me to leave the truck at the shop and got me a rental car away from the state.
I'm really sorry to hear about the frustrating experience you had with the company and the situation with your truck. It sounds like you were put in a tough spot!
So your not able to work because of the abandonment
What if I quit a company that’s located in Oregon but the truck is parked at a truck parking lot in California that they’ve paid for me to park at. Can they be considered truck abandonment
If you were not authorized to leave the truck at that location, yes. But I'd contact your carrier with that situation.
Well my situation was I was out for 4 weeks my first 4 days driving the truck broke down it was a engine knock and I was in a hotel for a whole week and they made me catch 4 grey hound buses from Pittsburg pa to Chicago Illinois to get a new truck then once I got the new truck I was riding for 4 days again and the truck had metal in the gas lines so it had to get check into the shop a Freightliner shop and I was in a hotel for another week and my lay over pay was only $50 a day I was struggling bad out there so I got frustrated and booked a flight home and left the truck at the Freightliner shop
Did they put it on your DAC report?
@@JaysLife78 luckily no I’m still trucking 🚛
Companies always abuse their drivers and they expect you to take it and not do anything in return .
No one is telling you to allow a company to abuse you. We are giving you information to preserve your record and help you continue to work for high quality companies.
Do anybody know what happens to your record if you abandon a trailer instead of a truck? Long story short, I left my trailer on the highway during a job because it was loaded incorrectly and almost made my truck tip over on my way home while crossing a bridge. My clock was running out and if I stayed I would’ve had to spend the night on a very dangerous side of the highway and i would’ve only had one day at home. I got a company to come out and take it but i didn’t bother waiting for them to arrive. I Went home and got fired.
I believe most carriers consider it to be very similar to a truck, the only difference being it sounds like there was customer freight on it, which makes it worse in many ways. More communication would have been a better idea in that case.
What if it’s a Ryder truck and you drop it off at Ryder I no longer wish to work for this company they flew me in from Virginia to Chicago and I asked for a ticket back home no one answered me 2 1/2 months I made no money with there lease to own program what am I supposed to do walk from Chicago
Hi Andrew, thank you for taking the time to share your opinion. The satisfaction of our drivers is always a top priority. We regret that you were not satisfied with your situation at ATS. Feel free to contact us directly at drivercare@atsinc.com or 320-255-7463
Is there any companies that are hiring recovery drivers for trucks like this? I would be extremely interested in this job if so
There MIGHT be a company that does that but typically a company will have one of their drivers recover the truck.
What happens if you have a family emergency and you can't get back in your semi?
It will depend on the company. If the family emergency is credible and handled correctly most companies should work with you.
@@OverTheRoadATS thank you for the info.
No problem!
I cleaned out 1 when I was a mechanic trk was nasty stunk
One of our guys told us a story about a truck having a possum infestation 🤢
How about if you never signed a contract with company ?
Abandoning a truck as a company driver is just as bad. I highly recommend you avoid it, if possible.
How about never saying you was abandoning but they think because you was late on other loads they tell you not to drive it and put It on your record
Not sure on this one. Communication usually resolves an issue like this. If they're assuming you abandoned but didn't, you can always have it overturned.
sometimes u will drop off a truck at a motel where another driver is waiting because his truck was fubar
Yep, every company is different.
fyi your company may not allow you to turn your truck in and if u drive to a terminal to turn it in they will charge u a dollar a mile
Yea they always gota charge the Driver for everything even tho they reap all the profits. It's al bs
Yeah, it's good to check with your company either way.
advance transportation was one of them
you have to do what you have to do.
Yep, there's always exceptions. But usually there's a way to work it out with your manager.
@@OverTheRoadATS i left that truck at a truck stop 4 hrs away from a terminal cause the company did not pay me for 7 weeks. and want to leave me stranded and fine my own way home.
About to leave mine at at terminal,
A lot better option than a random truckstop.
Can you beat the abandonment
If you really abandoned equipment, there isn't much you can do to "beat" it. If someone feels they truly did not abandon equipment, there are resources to get those things removed from your record. The best thing to do would be to file a dispute with the agency reporting it if they feel it is incorrect.
Super ego. Will cut the fuel card off. And want pay u if u take the truck back.
haha and thats why i dont work for them just because yall got fast trucks mean its good business
That only happens if you choose not to communicate with the carrier.
These guys only put out a perspective from a career make a video of getting scammed
We appreciate your input and understand the importance of exploring a variety of perspectives. We'll definitely take your suggestion into consideration. What specifically about being scammed did you have in mind?
They put that on my thing even tho I left it at the yard
