It makes a huge difference when the tutorial includes an audio explanation, and a bit of a sense of humour too. Thanks for this tutorial as well as the other vids you have posted. Keep up the excellent work!
Great tutorial Keelan. Best one so I've come across on RUclips so far. Keep up the great work. I look forward to learning more tips and tricks from you 👍🏾
I was simply letting blender tutorials play. When you started playing I found myself simply enjoying your voice after a while. Thanks for teaching me too ^_^
This felt like a blend between nice style and digestable/doable from a beginner's perspective. Started on my own tonight following the tutorial. Really nice! Took you like half an hour to get here, took me a couple of hours lol, but I'm super happy with how it's going so far!
I’ve using Blender for around a year (still a beginner) and I always wanted to try sculpting and I saw many tutorials and never could flow along. Your carisma and way to explain the process was amazing for me and I could follow along easily. Thank you so much and looking forward for part 3 😊. Keep up your amazing work.
Thanks, Keelan! This tutorial is fantastic. I especially appreciate how you break down each step and explain the thinking behind it. The tips are super helpful too!
Thank You So much for making this video! I actually learned a WHOLE BUNCH Thanks to you! I'm actually creating a character model that I'm actually happy about. Again, Thank you!
Awesome as always Keelan! 💯 Looking forward for the next one. I hope after the materials episode you continue this series with the rest of the body and clothing. 🙏🙏🙏
thanks for the great tutorials man! really straight forward, and begginer friendly. im picking up blender quite fast for modelling characters thanks to you!
Very good and lightweight tutorial! Its not overwhelming because you stick to 3-4 sculpting tools in your videos. That's a good base to explore the other tools. I sculpted my first head in the last two days and its even looking presentable all angles! :D Had to delete several attempts though! For me this is the donut of sculpting tutorials! ;)
Hi keelan, thanks for this wonderful lecture, light reminder: some of us are still waiting for the texturing section... all the best bro and thank you once again!
A bit shocked that you are doing all this with a mouse, seen plenty of "tutorial videos" using tablets. Got to say your two videos, that you've put out so far, have the thing I've been looking for in learning to sculpt in blender. Thanks again for putting these up.
I get a weird shame when I target the head inside the shrinkwrap modifier for the eyebrow. I make a plane somewhat rectangle on the correct position just like you do, but when I target the head, is gives a weird small Triangle shape on it. Any idea why? And how to fix that? (2:40 as a reference Point)
I'm following along, but for my purposes my model has a few more subdivisions on it. I was wondering how do you get/maintain perfectly smooth surfaces (especially on organic shapes)? Although my model has more subdivisions for detail, I still want it to have a animated/cartoon look about it.
Hi Karl, thanks for the comment. To help keep a smooth surface I'd mainly recommend keeping your poly count as low as possible to start, and the only adding in larger amounts when you're done with the main base of your model. That way it's a little easier to maintain as you go along. If you're looking to animate afterwards, you'll need to retopologise your sculpt so that it's better optimised. Hope that helps 😁🙌
@@KeelanJon Thanks. So, something like the multires modifier should help manage that? I have tried to keep things simple. I've noticed as I've gone along with more complex poses and detailed sculpts that some parts/areas of the surface have got a bit bumpy.
Question for anyone who is watching: In the brows segment can't I just use the first shrinkwrap modifier without applying it or is it some type of artistic trick for better result?
@@KeelanJon thx for the answer i just did these three tutorials today + i added some shoulders... im now looking forward to change a few thing up... first i want to add add cloth to the shoulders...then i want to replace ur hairstyle with actualy felt hair... also maybe add some nice glasses with some cool reflection :D
I come from a game development background and have started learning modelling / sculpting. Could you perhaps point me in the direction of where to go from this point. Maybe im reading it wrong but 876 thousand tris for a very simple head that lacks any minor detail has me extremely worried as to just how "good" I need to get before I can even import something like this into unity. How exactly would you get something like this down to say 200,000 tris to be lenient without compromising anything in the overall design of the model. Just to be clear idk if that many tris is normal for something that is staying local to blender. I personally am learning to sculpt for game assets. An example would be most overwatch characters averaging around 60k tris and that's for an entire character not just the head .
Hi thanks for the question 😁 Having upwards of a couple million tris on a sculpt is normal, and the amount of detail you require will reflect on your tri count. In the case of this simple model you likely don't need to go this high, but it's down to the Artist and their preference. From a game design stand point you would not sculpt a model with 60k faces, you would sculpt a very high tri model and then retopologise to simplify the geometry and then the higher poly model details can be "baked" into a normal map for lower poly version. That's generally how games work to avoid high poly count models, the details are faked with a normal map.
@@KeelanJon okay I understand , so when sculpting it’s kinda just do what u need until u get the result you want them re topology best you can until you get a good blend of quality and performance
@@zekenebel Yes exactly 😁 If it's a model for a game, you would need to go through those optimising steps of retopologising etc. But I'd also note that in my case I generally 3D print my models/figures and this does not require the model to be optimised. So depending on your use case, retopology is not always required.
Having a problem with 2:30 . When i do the shrinkwrap the eyebrow just completely deforms. I did the dividing it into four segments in edit mode, but i cant make it work. thanks

my laptop is struggling to add only one subdivision. im afraid, that I cant learn sculpting now. :(
why do you convert the hairs into mesh? i dont understand sir.. btw, this is cool tutorial!!

Yep, alive and well :)
dude..duuddde... duuudddeeeee ..... :)
would u prefere modeling or scupting for this style of character? im not sure but can it be u only used modeling in ur older videos?
In my personal work I generally use modeling, but sculpting is still useful in many ways for details which can be baked into lower poly models 😁
