    Good stuff from the UCI looking at banning radios. We need more riders going back to chat to their DS in the car who is drilling it at 80mph, cosplaying Verstappen by sending it up the inside of a rival teams car but with no-hands on the wheel and not looking at the road so they can pass on the crucial information of 'allez, don't give up! Keep pushing.'

      So anyone without a radio in the breakaway is disadvantaged by someone in the breakaway with a radio. It’s not going to work.

    Apologies in advance for the long message: I think you guys were busy with all the stuff going on and missed some details in the Almeida performance, I watched all the stages and interviews. His performance improved not only in power numbers but also in terms of positioning, attitude, acceleration and ability to open gaps. He said he changed coach because he needed to change his racing style and this TDS showed that. Stage 7 he had gone clear and asked in the radio if Yates could join him so he waited (this was the stage they finished together). Why he did that I don't know, maybe it was just a story to avoid looking ugly dropping a team mate with the yellow jersey or just team orders because they need unity ahead of the TDF. Stage 6 he dropped Yates as you rightly said. Stage 5 Yates did not drop Almeida per se, Almeida pulled for 5km doing insane numbers and launched Yates 1800m from the finish, still Almeida gapped Riccitello and passed Mas and Bernal like a motorbike finishing 5s from Yates. I just wish he had opened up at 2500m from the finish so Yates would have to go earlier. Yates would have spent more, Almeida less and there would be more road to overtake him and I think he would have. Stage 8 (ITT) I think it was expected both to be on par because it was a climbing one. Almeida's only mistake was not to have attacked on stage 4 in which Yates took the yellow jersey. I think a new Almeida is born...mark my words.

    • @Thaddeus_Howe

      @@Thaddeus_Howe fair comment. I think most people will think exactly the opposite but it is a valid opinion. My point (and my hope) is that he is becoming a different rider. I never saw him like in the TDS. The question is if it will continue or not, obviously with some ups and downs in form but this potential was the first time I saw.

    Thibau Nys is incredibly talented but still very young. The concern in his camp is that they don't want to over race him. This already happened last year during the 2023 cylocross season when he started out winning the first two races in October in spectacular fashion. Then won the prestigious Koppenbergcross. But one month later at European Championships, he DNF'ed. Then for the rest of the season, he finished nowhere near the podium until Benidorm in late January. I think his father wants Thibau to have a long career... so he's very careful at this early stage.

    What does the 'testing period' mean for the yellow card system? Will it be fully in work and reevaluated after the period or potential penalties will only be provisional?

  • @CRBenham20
    @CRBenham20 4 месяца назад +1

    i really think the yellow card system should only be based around rider safety. If a rider or ds driving in the convey behave in a way that endangers a rider, thats when a yellow card should be given.
    1st yellow card - warning, fine, possible relegation - 30 day probation period
    2nd yellow card within probation period - immediate DQ from the current race, 7 day suspension - 60 day probation starting after suspension ends
    3rd yellow card within probation period - immediate DQ from current race, 30 day suspension - another 60 day probation period.
    so basically each time you get a card, you go into a probation period that gets increasing longer, and if you get another one during that period, the punishment is more severe. if you make it through the probation period after the any yellow card without getting another one then you go back to 0 and the next yellow card would be back to step 1.
    finally if you get 6 yellow cards within a rolling 1 year period, then a 90 day suspension followed by a 90 day probation period where you would get another 90 day suspension if you get a yellow card. this last step would be to punish someone who gets a yellow card every 35 days theoretically and would not ever hit the 7 or 30 day suspension because their infractions are spaced out over a year but they keep getting them

      yes, not correct anymore but I would even say his punch from the QS days is returning. The way he passed Bernal and Mas on stage 5 like a motorbike was crazy. Do they have three riders that can finish on a podium of a Grand Tour ? Yes, of course.... Will they finish 1, 2 and 3 in the Tour ? ... No Vingegaard is much to strong for Pogacar, even if Vingegaard is only at 95%... Roglic 2nd and Pogacar 3rd.

      @swissbiggy 4 месяца назад +2

      - Uijtdebroeks has never been on the roster at all..
      - van Aert will replace van Baarle, which is an improvement.
      - Kelderman will replace Kruijswijk, which is an improvement.
      - Vingegaard will start in top form if we can believe his teammates.
      - Benoot has been good the whole season already.
      - Kuss has always been shit in one week races, and he's just a domestic for certain mountian stages. He has never missed an appointment so far, thus why should he not be in shape in the three stages that it is needed this Tour ?
      - Jorgenson is no Roglic of course, but on the other hand Jumbo didn't have Roglic in the last Tour. Thus having Jorgenson is also an improvement.
      - Tratnik has been on the roster for the Tour since the start oof the season.
      - Bouwman is just a good domestic that has been riding fine the entire season already.
      Thus no I can not share your opinion.....
      In the end it will just be Pogacar against Vingegaard again, and we know who is the strongest of these two in Grand Tours... A Jonas at 95% does still beat a Pogacar at 110%..
      I do write down a third Tour victory for Jonas already. 😉
