yeah, I agree, should’ve been like 33% for quad weak mons, still a good chunk of health but not so much you can’t switch in on a resisted hit or something similar. Luckily boots exist now, I just slap those mfs on basically anybody rock weak.

something i never fully appreciated until watching this is just how well zapdos has aged. it was elite in gens 2 and 3 and it's an ou staple in gens 1, 4, 6, 7 and 8. it only dropped gen 5 thanks to thunderus-t being so ridiculous on rain, and it would still be ou in gen 9 if it weren't for gholdengo and the defog cut, but it's still viable in those tiers. on top being viable in every single gen it pulled that off with reasonable stats, a good typing, solid moves and ok abilities, there's nothing crazy or broken it's just zapdos. all the other gen 1 mons have either always been garbage (it's muk monday), peaked early and are zu now (tauros' tragedy) or they've recieved crazy buffs like dragonite and clefable also i'll never stop ranting about defensive gyarados and dragonite sets in gen 3. gyarados can run bulky attack sets with t-wave/taunt 3 attacks which is a great general check and more consistent offensively than dragon dance in my experience, it can also run rest pretty well if you have aroma support which makes it a reliable wall to swampert, metagross and fighting types. dragonite's real niche imo is its access to heal bell, on stall teams it's an alternative to articuno as a rest talker to provide heal bell support and personally i much prefer dragon/flying to ice/flying, i run full hp and defence and it can stonewall defensive pert/starmie, any fighting type other than banded medi clicking slide, and just about anything without an ice move you can switch into temporarily to get off a heal bell. these defensive sets aren't as spammable as mainstream stuff but they're really good on the right team
What makes this even funnier is that the instant Zapdos dropped to UU in Gen 5 it became a unanimous Top 5 Pokémon in the tier, arguably even higher depending on who you ask

My favorite type is Grass. A lot of my favorite pokes are grass types so I was happy to see Jumpluff make the cut. I know it's a mid tier type competitively but I just like how grass types tend to be designed.
Charizard is indeed rough in Gen 1 OU, but Gambler Keegan has a Charizard team that has broken 1500 on the OU ladder. I always recommend people check out his youtube videos. Dude is a master of the Gen 1 OU meta, and good at proving that it isn't quite as "solved" as some RBY RUclipsrs are so desperate to make people believe
Considering how dominant Flying types were in Gen 3 with the Superman teams, Stealth Rock was pretty much needed to keep them grounded. And besides, even nowadays Spikes tend to be the bigger issue, but people that aren't familiar/skilled with Competitive Pokemon tend to think Stealth Rocks are more dangerous, ignoring how powerful Spike stacking teams tend to be throughout the generations.

Several different sources and hints we’ve gotten indicate that Flying was originally going to be what the since-scrapped “Bird-Type” was in Gens 1 and 2, a Type only available on glitch Pokémon in the former and presumably nowhere in the latter. It would be until later in development of Gen 1 where Flying-Types that weren’t birds were created, which may also explain why Flying was always the Pokémon’s “secondary” Type all the way until Gen 5. The idea here is that prior to the Bird-Type being scrapped, Pokémon like Charizard and Dragonite may have been single types like their pre-evolutions.

That would also "save" a plethore of bug-flying type pokémon, poor little things xD And Charizard would indeed be grateful of not NEEDING to wear damn boots all the time, ahaha. In Gen 2 Ho-Oh will uses flamethrower over scared fire just because of gen 2 longer games so you want more PP (flamethrower has 24pp and scared fire has 8pp) so you really want uses scared fire because you will run out of PP really fast

I think rocks should have just dealt 12.5 percent to everything that floats instead of rock damage. It would be a way to wear down levitate and flying mons without making certain type combos completely useless due to starting at 50%

I experimented with gen3 heal bell dragonite. With defense investment it can actually be a really effective bulky mixed attacker. Slap on brick break, hp fly, and blizzard ( if -spa) or ice beam (if -spd). Inner focus actually comes into play by allowing you to KO dd tar and salamence through rock slide
Ok the gen 1 moltress part is missinformed first of all snorlax is not comming into moltress to wall it as it has average special unlike in gen 2 so an fire blast is an guaranteed 3hko and burning an chansy can be as much of an hindrance as an advantage if not even more as burn is only 6% and there is no other passive damage + sleep and freez are much stronger in gen 1 do you want those status conditions the most on chansy but if you can’t get them para is often the second best choice the only real advantage the burn gives moltress is the possibility to try to fire spin chansy to death
If only Delibird had some of the offensive stats of Iron Bundle and was partial water type instead of ice it could’ve held a niche as the only flying type with hazard removal pre gen 6.
Maybe stealth rock would have been better as the low risk, low reward version of spikes. Instead of putting down 3 layers that progressively do more damage (1/8, 1/6, 1/4), just have one layer that does 1/6 to everyone. The type weakness factor is just dumb imo.

Flying types also have the big benefits of being one of the naturally faster typings but can't be slowed by sticky web like electric types.
