Adam Yakin asked for the lyrics in English. Here is what yiddishsongsonline.com had. (This site also has the Yiddish transliterated into English letters, as well as a French translation.) If someone could post the Yiddish lyrics (in Hebrew letters), that would be much appreciated.
    Singable English Version
    :
There are times when memory is a nice guy, too.
Ask him a favor and he'll do it for you.
He can sometimes recall to your very sight
A childhood flower, all blooming and bright,
Which then rouses the sense of smell from its sleep
And I return to the past in one great leap.
    My mother is running a comb through my hair;
She smears a white roll, the butter's right there.
She dresses me up in my little boy's clothes
And to the rebbe in kheyder away we go.
I don't want to go to kheyder, I screech,
The rebbe has a mouth full of yellow teeth.
The rebbe's black prayer book is big and thick,
And the alef-beys inside - it makes me sick.
But once the tears have dried from my whining
The letters, like stars, begin their shining.
They unite their lights in full words with no spaces
And put themselves in unbelievable places.
And shine out from the big black prayer book tomes
For years thereafter, all the way to my poems.

I'm working on a cover of this. The chords seem to be C-minor, F-minor, and G-minor. Easiest to play on guitar with capo at the 3rd fret as A-minor, D-minor, E-minor.

I was listening and singing along to this track in a parked car, late last summer in Kansas City, my windows rolled up and hardly bothering anyone, at 8:30 in the evening, when a police officer approached and asked me what I thought I was doing.
I asked him, was I breaking any law? Was I disturbing the peace? He said no, and I suppose that was sufficient ‘to defuse the situation’, as it were. But of course I knew - and this is the saddest part of all - I would not then or now have enjoyed any defense from the Jewish Community in Kansas City, which (in May 2017) identified me, on the basis of a well-placed director of JFS installed apparently as the result of an opportune $180,000 donation - and without any apparent prior experience in social services, let alone running the city’s frontline Jewish aid society - as a ‘security concern’ for the entire community, apparently based on a dossier gathered in California by individuals affiliated with Nazi-looted art profiteering, including Jews who find ‘restitution finance’ a lucrative business, and apparently bear serious grudges against those who have created inconveniences at best for them... But for the mere fact that I had come to JFS seeking help to free my mother from an illegal guardianship imposed on her in Ohio in 2014, and to prevent the illegal breaking of the Trust she had created for her children in 1996, executed in concert with a Power of Attorney for her two children at that same time - suppressed and/or ignored by the court and the attorney affiliated with the Ohio guardian, so eager to seize her assets, take away her freedom and her Kansas home, and destroy her family, an accomplishment still yet to be achieved but, still, O still, poised to be achievdd...
What was I to tell that police officer? That I am Jewish? (Yes, but my mother’s mother’s mother had a premonition c. 1900 or so, while living in New York, that we would have to hide that fact here even though we were American, had lived in the USA for a long time even then, because being Jewish was not something even Jews could know about us, for fear of what was to come?)
Or might I have told that officer, this Chava Alberstein track is the best thing to come along since Schumann’s ‘Klezmeriana’? He would not have understood
    - Tak, proszę pana, wszystkie.
