Voidokilia is considered one of the most gorgeous beaches in the Mediterranean, not just in Greece. Situated at 12 km from the city of Pylos (in the north of the Navarino bay), you reach from the village of Petrochori.
Voidokilia literally means “belly of the ox”. It owes its name to the very characteristic shape that it has, like the Greek capital letter Omega(Ω) with golden sand, soft dunes, and low plants in a spectacular natural environment.
From Voidokilia beach you can pass onto the lagoon of Gialova through a natural path to observe the lagoon’s bird life, and the fascinating world of one of Europe’s most important wetlands. Gialova Lagoon is ideal for bird watching such as flamingos, herons, cormorants, seagulls, kestrels, ospreys...
Other attractions are located above the beach include Nestor’s Cave, the ruins of Old Navarino Castle, and the tomb of Thrasymedes (Mycenaean period)
Voidokilia Bay has been recognised officially as a landscape of exceptional natural beauty by the Greek government, and is one of the most captivating spots in Greece.
