  • Stoeger STR-9MC Review - Unveiling the Frankenstein of Handguns!
    Overview:
Stoeger, with roots dating back to 1924, surprises us with their STR-9 series, specifically the Micro Compact (MC) model introduced in 2023. Owned by Beretta, Stoeger is known for budget shotguns made in Turkey, and now they've ventured into the pistol market.
    Design & Build:
Upon inspection of the STR-9MC, its internals are a curious mix of Glock, Springfield, and Smith & Wesson elements. The Glock-style takedown, Springfield's grip zone, and a backplate reminiscent of an M&P, all amalgamated to create a surprisingly functional firearm.
    Performance:
Against all initial expectations, this pistol performs remarkably well. The Glock-like trigger is crisp, the grip texture is effective, and the recoil is impressively low for a micro compact. Despite being a mishmash of designs, the STR9-MC stands out as one of the best in its category.
    Bang for Your Buck:
Purchased for $250 on a whim, the STR-9MC turned out to be a hidden gem. Competing in the micro compact market against the likes of Sig Sauer P365 and Springfield Hellcat, this Stoeger offering excels in performance, reliability, and affordability.
    Features & Functionality:
Featuring an 11 or 13-round magazine, adjustable rear sight, and a unique grip texture, Stoeger made thoughtful design choices. However, aftermarket support and accessories are currently limited, which may pose a challenge for some users.
    Controversial Aspects:
While the STR-9MC earned praise for its shooting experience, concerns were raised about the trigger's lateral play and the questionable effectiveness of the slide serrations. Holster availability and aftermarket support are also areas where Stoeger lags behind.
    Rating:
    Build Quality: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
    Reliability: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
    Feel: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
    Factory Options: ⭐⭐
    Aftermarket Support: ⭐
    X Factor: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
    The Verdict:
Surprisingly, the Stoeger STR-9MC, despite it being the new kid on the block, emerges as a reliable, accurate, and easy-to-shoot micro compact. Priced competitively, it offers an appealing option for budget-conscious buyers willing to overlook the brand's limited track record in the handgun market.
    Conclusion:
Whether you're a seasoned shooter or a first-time buyer, the Stoeger STR-9MC challenges preconceptions and deserves a test run at the range. The fusion of familiar elements might just win you over, making this Frankenstein creation a hidden gem in the world of micro compact handguns.

I bought one 3 months ago shot about a 100 rounds through it. It ran fine no hiccups to me the recoil was managable it came with a 11 and 13 round magazines and its super thin and light about the size of a hellcat micro. This gun is a keeper.

Guys, i have owned stoeger pistols for about two years now, and I can honestly tell you that they are just as reliable as my Glock, no joke!!!!!! I have no reason to believe this model will be any different!!!
Not sure how, but Stoeger has found a good formula and they are putting out some great firearms!!!

I had no malfunctions at all for the first 500 rounds. At about 500 I experienced two failures to eject. I took the gun home and cleaned it and have put another 200 rounds thru it since cleaning it and it has been perfect. I can't be sure if the failures to eject were the fault of the gun or the ammo, because I bought a half case of 9mm and there was another round in that case that was malformed from the factory, so I guess it's possible it was an ammo problem but since I can't say for sure either way I make note of the failures for the record.
I cleaned and lubed it with Mobil 1 and that stuff has just been fantastic. There's a super smooth sheen on all the necessary parts and it hasn't worn off at all. The feed ramp and chamber are super slippery now.
The main two downsides to this gun are how hard it is to load the magazines and how hard it is to pull back the slide. I appreciate that Stoeger is building everything tight but the springs are overkill. For the first couple hundred rounds through the magazines I had to use a mag loader, you can't really use your thumb. With respect to the slide, I left it locked back overnight and even after shooting over 700 rounds through it, the guide rod spring is super tight. I'm just now getting to a point where I can manipulate the slide without having to really grip it hard. There's no way someone with diminished hand strength could do it.
I paid $350 at Cabela's for the non-optic ready model with a plain white front sight. It came with a eleven round and thirteen round magazine, but no pinky extension in the box for the 11 round mag. I bought another magazine off Stoeger's website to get a pinky extension on the 11 rd mag. It's really easy to conceal using the 11 with a pinky.
I think I'm going to keep training with it and trusting it until it gives me a reason not to. So far so good.

I currently own the Stoeger 9MC, Glock 43x, and Shield Plus and I shoot the Stoeger 9MC the best out of the 3. Only down side is proprietary sights, they could've made it compatible with at least one of the major brands like Sig, Glock, or S&W. Other than that, $225 after tax and rebate. It's an excellent choice if you're on a tight budget looking to get a micro 9.

I Have this gun for over 3 months now and it is my edc. Took a chance on it and have not regret it. Mine is over 600 rounds with at least 8 different brands of ammo and weights. Not one issue (yet). I do agree with the slide serration, really a shame. But over hand rack is no issue. Also, Stoeger offers a 10+1 magazine with a pinky extension. I think they should have include that pinky part in the package instead of selling it as a separate mag... Currently they are offering a 50 dollar rebate if you purchase one from Nov to Jan 2024 (Which I missed....damn)

After shooting it, the issues I had with compact guns were absent. It wasn’t as snappy as my wife’s GX4XL, it also didn’t have the pinch points that hurt my hands like the GX4XL does. The issues I had was last round hold open, and it’s hard to chamber like they said. It also only came with one mag, which sucked but it is now my edc.

We did shoot it against the shield plus and found it to be pleasant. Hopefully your slide loosens up. But I think we need to go back and try it again against it.

Went to the local shop yesterday and put hands on the Stoeger str 9mc and the vanilla mete mc9. Stoeger felt better in hand, but I have some Caniks and am familiar with them and the Canik will except my current full size mags. I can’t decide which one of these two I need next. Both that looked at were optic ready and the same price.Which one would you buy if you were in my situation?

    • @fullyloadedreviews
      @fullyloadedreviews  6 месяцев назад

That’s a hard one. Just like the canik the Stoeger takes all the mags from the other Stoegers. If you have caniks and like the way it feels and shoot go with the canik. But if you like the feel of the Stoeger and you think it will be the more comfortable shooting gun go with it. At the end of the day it comes down to what feels more comfortable in your hand and what you can shoot best.

The reciol isn't great .. Im shocked at the new gx4Carry what ever they did with the spring and slide works ..its better them my Macro which is baffling ..the original gx4 was ok but this is better ..but these will take the 10-13-15 and 17 mags so a super good idea by them to make every mag work even in the micro!!..the compact 3.7 stoeger is my favorite its like a better g26 and standards 13 rd mag

No way on a hipoint or Scyy under any circumstance. They are too bulky and made like dog crap. Good luck cleaning that pot metal piece of hi point garbage with its excessive weight and single stack magazine. The sccy trigger is horrendous, and the build quality and sights are garbage. Probably the GX4 over this simply because it takes Glock Sights and the magazines are more easily attainable, but I wouldn’t exclude this as an option.

    • @fullyloadedreviews
      @fullyloadedreviews  8 месяцев назад

I can agree with that. We need to get a GX4 back in house to test out since it has been a minute since we have tried one. Mags are a big factor in buying a gun. One thing we did not know is that it will take both the full size and compact mags for the STR9 series.
