I was one of the volunteers at th Idaho Botanical gardens for this segment. When I went to get the guest he just had the watch in his front pants pocket, no special case. He had a wonderful story about his family in Idaho.
This 8171 "Padellone" in steel is incredible. The camera cuts away when he mentions the million estimate if the dial was original 😅. Still, that is a still an under estimation of value. A steel case in this condition, what appears to be unpolished with the crown still crisp on the caseback by itself is extremely valuable. I wonder if he has the original bracelet that was never worn? Many of these cases were polished and worn away, someone with anmoriginal dial but poor case would pay big money for the case. This is a top dog, grail watch for Rolex collectors.
Not bad for something that someone said wasn't worth repairing. I dread to think how many classic watches got thrown away because they weren't classic yet
Ya right. They were “thrown out” at the watch store after the crooks said it wasn’t repairable. Then miraculously come back from the trash 30 years later.
@@matthiaskettner6686No, it shows how lack of awareness can cost tens of thousands of dollars. You can’t blame the original owner for not knowing. However, that is why pieces in original unpolished condition are so valuable. There are very few around.
Well you have to remember back in the '50s you could buy one for a couple of hundred. Paul Newman's watch that went to auction a couple of years ago was bought by his wife for under $300 around 1960, which was like $3000 back then.
Any watch repair shop that says the watcj isn't worth repairing is a shop i wont be back to. If someone is bringing in a watch for repair, its special enough to them to have it repaired
the only time it's not worth repairing is if it's so abundant you could easily get a cheap replacement. a rolex with a limited run of 1500? no watch repair shop is that ignorant. they were trying to scam him.

It's unfortunate this video cuts off when it does. Because we miss the part after the appraiser tells the owner the watch would be worth 1 million dollars if he hadn't replaced the dial. 😊

I know that bracelet is not original and doesn't really even fit...but. There is something about how it separates from the case at the lugs. That space is rather wonderful.

This guy made two critical mistakes. He had it "repaired and repainted" and he replaced the arm band. When it comes to Rolexes, don't do any of that! And if you replace the band, at least keep the original. A million dollar watch turned into only $35,000. OUCH!
Man, it’s sad the watch face was refinished. Because it has no WR, the original dial probably deteriorated to a state that it’s unreadable. And because there were not many manufactured, finding an original good condition dial would be like finding the ark of the covenant. With an original dial, this may have been a $100k watch or more.
casually drops the fatality heartbreaker at the end XD can't believe the jewelry store thought it wasn't worth saving. ANY rolex that old is worth a nice chunk. in low numbers like that? triple value.

No watch is worth over 10K unless it has some real historical value or has some actual diamonds etc. Rolex is just a scam company ripping people off. Any company which doesn't even sell their products openly and you have to beg them to sell you some crappy watch, deserves to go bankrupt. Companies should entice people to buy their products, not the other way round.
and after he appraised that watch, he asked the owner to step into the room backstage and apply for an insurance policy for that newly appraised $35,000. dollar investment he has....that is how those antique roadshows work.
its so sad that people just sell off their deceased parents possessions after they pass away when they intended for the items to be cherished for future generations and they worked so hard to acquire them. what a sick and pathetic world we live in.

I wonder if he threw it back in his pants pocket after he told him its value.
Make a video about this.
Rumor is that there are still people on the waiting list for this watch....
Dude, such a good one, truly underrated comment.
Hahaha as a watch enthusiast who owns several watches over the value of £10k but no Rolex for reasons of principle, I appreciate this comment! 🤣
Rolex: “Get on the list for your grandkids!”
Great comment. Rumour is, if you buy a Rolex you don't want, the wait list will get shorter.

The watch itself was not fake the rest of the set (box/papers) may have been pieced together.
