Just a tip. To get a better end product just cover the helmet in plaster and wait for it to dry. You get a negative mold. Then "paint" the inside of that mold with resin and lay the cloth strips on top, then repeat. :)
Your first arrow penetrated because you had air pockets in the resin. You need to put the helmet in plastic and pull a vacuum to get the air out. There are RUclips videos that will show you how. Your on the right track though
Shoot it with a 9mm and a .45. If it can resist handgun rounds then I'll be interested in making one. A crossbow is one thing, a handgun is another. Interesting!
If you want to get actual results use actual DuPont Aramid (Kevlar®) fiber and layer them at least 45° per layer. It’s pricey though at $55 by the yard.
@@nobodyprepper The surplus kevlar helmets are becoming harder to find as the years go by because they arent produced anymore and people are buying them up until they become rare
Ok, even though it is working, you can get better results from layered random direction mesh. In other words, use dense fiberglass mesh with each other layer of mesh placed in a different direction.
It's pointless, chop strand fiberglass is not resistive enough. Fiberglass cloth is the correct material for this project. The difference between the two is akin to the difference between a cast iron pan and a truck leaf spring.
Even modern ballistics helmets are surprisingly inadequate at stopping most rounds especially highpower rifle. They appear to be priciply for shrapnel and glancing/ricoshaying rnds. Majorly disapointing. Still usefull though.
Surplus helmets are only graded for 9 mil. I'm glad to see people thinking outside the box. If war has taught me anything its don't trust what the government gives you to fight a war always test it and try to improve it.

interesting...I recommend
to buy military surplus
this is just an experiment
Then you just break the plaster off to reveal the mold? Gonna try this

It's important to give the helmet an anti abrasive coating as well.
Tremulousnut it's just a little experiment
better to buy military surplus
if it is available

the first time I saw that arrow I was like "naw man that totally went in" then he revealed the inside and i'm like waaaaaa

Good video!
Here's the thing .
Did you test it tho?

My bad I meant against bullets.

They make rifle rated helmets, but they are 1500$ a helmet.
Wrong fiberglass, applied the resin wrong - just wrong from start to finish. This helmet is useless.
Testing with a Bow and a crossbow
my guy is also a fellow Brit
🤣
can we use carbon fiber or fiberglass is better?
yes of course carbon fiber is better...but this is just an experiment
I recommend buying military surplus

thanks, I can't buy it in my country hahaha we are forbidden to buy guns, bulletproof vests, helmets, scopes... so we have to make our own
I think so... but I recommend
to buy military surplus

nobodyprepper did it stop a bullet
Just wandering, could you use this method for arm and leg armor and a ballistic vest?
Yeah bro. Eli (from zna productions) has even done it.
How much weight you tryin to lug around? Just protect the vitals. Head, organs, groin. The rest can be tourniqueted and quick clotted
A shot to the femoral can make you bleed out long before youll be able to stop it.
@@robodoggo312 umm.
poor fiberglass work. why would you tape it?
you didn't test it with actual bullets are you sure bullets will be stopped?
how light is it man
I made one and its not heavy at all. Like 1 and a half pounds tops. I need to weigh it tho
if a buy a ww2 helmet, will it protect me from 9mm bullets?
probably not
nobodyprepper ok thanks
buy military surplus

Absolutely NOT! See MikeB. Helmet ballistics YT tests.
Here's a test buy one, put a cantaloupe in it and then shoot it with a 9mm
shoot it with actual handguns ???
