i studied Tibetan White crane for years but it wasn't until Recently I finally realized how to pull the Gong Bu Punching all together, the power thats generated in twisting the whole body I developed some terrible imbalances however it wasn't until I realized that the twist must come with a slight lift of the center just enough to reduce the weight in the feet for just a mili-sescond not enough to take the feet from the ground but just enough that you experience a moment of true centrivical forces pulling everything into the center of gravity.

It's funny how when you learn and spend time doing different martial arts in the same family it increases your understanding of your foundational (main) system that you practice

This is awesome I was studying this foot shifting through the hip with sword in hema. I think it will make its way to mma eventually minus the putting the rear hand behind you, I see no need for this and I don’t understand the martial purpose of pointing your elbow behind you. They do this in karate as well, it seems you may get a 5percent power increase but the loss of defense of the head is too much. I know legendarily in kung fu certain fighters were feared for pressure point attacks so perhaps protecting the body is more concern in the past but I’ve seen so few significant fighters that can do this many more fake than real, a few real but so few it might as well not exist. Sometimes I hear fighting multiple people plays into certain stances but every single fighter who has won a street on camera has held a traditional boxing guard. Anyways I think the focus on placing feet purposely where they are ready to turn is a lost art as far as modern fighting is concerned and I think people need to train 7 stances 3 degrees of bladed on each side and totally square and be able to seemlessly move between them. Yet to see any art or fighter acknowledge this but it totally informs what type of strikes work for instance a fully bladed stance changes a long jab into a backhand basically but that same backhand isn’t functional if you square slightly, a fully square stance can get a lot of power from the traditional wing chun verticle jab (non-turning jab). A near full bladed stance can change a low kick into a pendulum kick where the leg moves almost like a soccer kick turned slightly in but will hit the opponents like laterally despot it basically being a front kick from the perspective of a square stance. I geek out on this stuff hope somebody actualizes these ideas outside of my head someday.

DorjeDriftwood the reason for pulling the hand back to the hip is not to increase power. It is a ‘grabbing hand’ used to control a free limb of your opponent. The Japanese use the term ‘hikite’ to describe the concept. This idea is believed to have originated from the old Chinese fighting systems. I hope this helps in your understanding. 👍
