I saw a top judge send his border collie round an agility course while standing beside the first obstacle. Just giving voice commands. Over, left, right, table, He used the command "go" ahead of the seesaw, a-frame. The dog knew how to get all the touch points.
I've not seen anyone else with that skill. I certainly can't do it, except, for example, a sequence of jumps in a row.
    Any comments.

I'm no expert, barely an amateur, but a well exercised dog is a more focused dog as well. I'm sure that just doing some basic stuff in your backyard or whatever would be beneficial. It's what I plan on doing later this summer. I have a 9 year old terrier who's always going under the shed and jumping over obstacles. I'm convinced that just having hoops and whatnot in the yard will be beneficial to her mental and physical health (she put on 4 pounds over the last year due to a number of factors, especially a cold, icy, long winter

Good stuff! We just got a German Shephard puppy that seems to love to go in and out of places. With my past experience as an engineer, I would like to design some obstacles.
I do have a suggestion though. For the "jumping" apparatuses, instead of using something that a bar has to sit on, why not use magnets at the ends of the poles and have a metal strip on the uprights?
That way a dog can land straight down on the bar and it will still fall... also, you can adjust the height by much smaller increments if needed. something to think about.
Let me know if you want me to design one.

Anil -- every agility course is different, although the obstacles are pretty standard. Some courses are relatively straightforward such as the course in the video. Other courses can be much more difficult with backside jumps and 'traps' designed to entice a dog to take the wrong obstacle. The dog is completely dependent on the handler to guide him around the course.

@@dogloaf4114 -- To be honest I'm not sure. In lower levels of competition you're likely to find quite a few mixed breeds. At really high levels of competition the border collie seems to rule. There are other breeds (including mixed) that do very well in agility, but the really competitive handlers seem to choose a purebred maybe because it's easier to know what to expect as far as trainability and/or temperament. That's just a guess on my part. I trained a Pomeranian to run agility but never competed.
