      Hi there,
I'm really impressed by your eloquence and the ease with which you speak. Could you share some insights into how you developed this skill? Is it a natural talent, or do you rely on some sort of preparation like jotting down key points before speaking? Do you script your talks and memorize them, or use aids like teleprompters? I aspire to reach a similar level of proficiency and would greatly appreciate any guidance or strategies you could share. Many thanks in advance for your help!
      Warm regards,
      Melchior

    Mistakes to Avoid
    1) Don't look at the monitor when presenting; make "eye contact" with the lens instead 0:46
    2) Don't wait for the perfect time to start making videos; begin even before you feel ready 1:05
    3) Avoid 'Gear Acquisition Syndrome'; use the equipment you already have to start honing your content creation skills first 1:30
    4) Don't "wing it"; plan ahead to avoid wasting time later 2:13
    5) Don't compare yourself to others; identify and build upon your own strengths and unique attributes instead 3:02
    6) Don't make 'selfish content' (i.e videos only you will enjoy); instead bring value to the viewer 3:48
    7) Don't use weak titles; title your videos so viewers will know what they are about to learn - AI can help you 4:31
    8) Don't use weak thumbnails (e.g. cluttered images; small, unreadable text); simple tools can help generate better thumbnails 5:22
    9) Don't waste time at the start of the video; get to the point quickly to retain viewers 6:06
    10) Don't make videos on an ad-hoc basis; create systems to produce consistent and uniform quality videos 6:58
    11) Don't compromise your values/reputation/brand; think long-term instead 8:44
    12) Avoid unrealistic expectations; appreciate the amount of patience, time, work, effort, learning and skill-building needed to succeed on RUclips 9:51
    13) Don't cover too many topics on one channel; focus instead on proving the videos your viewers want/need 11:02
    14) Don't try to figure everything out alone; learn from others who have already done it 12:33
    15) Avoid inconsistency; upload videos consistently, maintain a consistent tone/message/quality/brand in your videos 13:43
    16) Don't aim for numerous targets at the same time; focus on your strongest option and execute that first 15:38
    17) Don't give up too soon; watch Seán's next video 17:02

Great video. Starting and growing your channel is definitely the toughest part, but the thing is that you need to give viewers the content they want to see, the content they can't live without. Same like business owners give people products they need in their life. Also you have to stay hard working and consistent (and you should also use a little bit of Famester to make everything a lot easier. For me, it feels like I am in control of everything and I don't need to worry about algorithms anymore). Good luck to everybody.

My takeaway? For starters: many thanks for sharing your experience. I am preparing to launch a new channel with value driven, customer-focused content from a very successful history in both the Music & Entertainment and Corporate world. Much of what you share here resonates as it reflects on my experience working in 4 Fortune 500 companies as well as the inner-circle in the LA Music Industry. You are so spot-on. Very grateful for you and your focused channel.

Off topic, but this is the best videography, lighting, set design, audio and production value I've seen on a Think video - as a long time subscriber. Kudos to the team. The fact that you pulled this off with no B-roll or graphics and kept it retention-worthy is the proof.

After 8 years on RUclips I've seen channels explode in the time it would have taken me to upload five videos. Most of the time these channels are in a special niche. One is a wrestling channel the other covers true crime. Both of those are topics that I don't really cover or know much about. My full-time job and side business cuts my ability to make content down. Which also affects how much I improve and grow. Thanks for the video Sean

  • @travelingbeyondboundaries

I've made so many of these mistakes! For years I was making content without thinking about an audience. I started RUclips as a video blog, literally just documenting like a journal. Now, thanks to learning from you, I try to focus on my target audience and what content would help them.

Sometimes these videos don’t necessarily teach me a ton of new things because I’ve watched a lot of different content, but just reaffirm that I’m on the right track. Sometimes you just need a reminder to keep going and it’s a marathon and not a sprint. Gone from 0-1650 subs in 5 months of consistent posting. No massive spikes just steady growth each month and that’s not exciting but it’s realistic, especially in a niche subject.

Hobbies, Gardining, Kids toys for the Grandkids, Travel tips for us older folks, Exercising for the "not so young" person ... etc ... Gracias Amigos ... great video !!!

@ThinkMediaPodcast I agree with every point you said especially about upload what your audience came to your channel for. I have lots of different things I’m into that I may make videos for like this channel is for my welding audience. I have a house I’m renting to own that I will be fixing up while I rent it that will be it’s own channel, but may have some crossover stuff with this channel on some of the thing I make. Whil another hobby and something I’m into purely as a hobby(maybe that isn’t the word for it) is 3d printing (something I feel everyone should learn how to do) and there will be things that get printed for the house my welding channel needs some things sometimes that are printed. And I think I may end up with 3-4 channels in the end as I build up that though they are separate I can do some cross over without diluting my channels with content the viewers aren’t coming there for but might be interested in after seeing what the other may offer. That being said my kind of content isn’t something that will be weekly on more than one or two of them.

okay so G*A*S is about what you don't need, Well when I Started 7 Years ago My Audio was Terrible and My Lighting was Crap because I was using a Laptop Cam for my vids, Now I have a 1080 [FHD] Cam with a Shotgun Mic, Now I look and Sound Better than I did with me Shouting at My Computer and using a 360p Laptop Cam. I'm getting Serious Mark Gordon vibes with that Yankees hat Sean, to anyone who doesn't understand that Reference, Mark Gordon was Victor French's Final Character before he died, He was working on Highway to heaven with Michael Landon when He Died, And yes They were on Little House on The Prairie. I'm Probably Guilty of Mistake 14, But if I don't Figure it out, who will? Benji Travis? Yeah sure he lives close by but we're in Two different Cities, And we Never Met, So here I am Flying Blind on a Skype Cycle, Because there isn't enough Data. Maybe it's just My Device but You started getting Choppy at the end there Sean.
