What a gorgeous movie. Cannot tell you how much I enjoyed this. Norman Hartnell, Hardy Amies and the return of British textile manufacturing and high fashion post-war. I don’t think there need be any apologies for something so lovely. It just is.
Fabulous movie, just my taste, thank you! I want to go back and live in that Era. Anybody else thinking, why don't they just get married already? 😅 She looks exactly like my beautiful mother, same blue eyes, like mine. I'm Irish with a dash of English and French. 🎉
Great old movie. Wonderful story line and well directed. Loved all the styles of clothes , cars and street scenes . I know what it feels like to be smitten by a beautiful woman ! It’s a wonderful thing! Greetings from south east Alabama USA ☮️❤️
Enjoyed this very much. Couple of in jokes at the expense of our two leads and you know you're in the land of escapist nonsense. At 11mins, "She looks a bit like Anna Neagle". And at 45mins, "A member of the Michael Wilding fan club". PS, Anna Neagle was 44 at the time of shooting.
I love Michael Wilding, and this is a charming film. Thanks for posting. (BTW - the subtitles are a bit off: e.g. “a seer” for “Boadicea”, “Halo” for “Harrow”, etc. - quite distracting)

mayfair nowadays is a different story - smoggy air, police sirens, ubiqutous marijuana stink, mohameds and othellos everywhere, you're lucky if you pass through without getting stabbed in the daylight.
A lovely, charming movie from the introduction. I must say though, that pink and black outfit looked like it had long strands of hair all over the skirt. Not very attractive.
Peter Graves, brother of James Arness ("Matt Dillon" of "Gunsmoke" and the evil creature from space in the 1950s movie "The Thing...From Another World" based on the short story "Who Goes There?" 1951)
@@onemercilessming1342 Try running along yourself, sweetie: THIS Peter Graves is an Englishman, and no relation whatsoever to the Peter Graves who was James Arness' brother, who played the Thing. Snarky clown!
@@onemercilessming1342 There were two different actors named Peter Graves. You are both correct. The actor in this movie was the 8th Baron Graves, a member of the peerage.

Romanic comedy, in defense of propriety. How much of civility has been lost since 1949 ?
All of it.
I think this movie has the prettiest dance ever. Her dress!
I’m actually going to be able to watch the entire film instead of a small snippet. I love Ann neagles films. Thank you so much😊

I’ll bet all those Lancashire coal miners would love to live in Mayfair…if they could afford to.
Look how clean and rich it looks!

Built with coal money!

I'm happy to say my family escaped that life. They lived by the sea coast northwestern Ireland.
Love the fuschia sheer duster, it would look nice with a pair of jeans!❤
I Love film old
Wow FTD sign in the window and still in business.
What happened to the fashion show?
Odio i sottotitolo sforzo la vista e non vedo niente del film😥
All the style screamed, " abundant restraint ".
EXQUISITA PELICULA MUSICAL
Peter Graves,the English actor
"Sweeney Todd....wasn't a bad barber!"
The name of the school is HARROW, not Halo!

Very similar to play "Gowns by Roberta" and the musical "Roberta."
Hai dears i love u all ❤❤❤❤😂❤😂❤😂
They were saying fellow, not fella!
Such a shame it’s so out of focus.
At 50:24 it looks like a man playing the lady dancing. How nauseating. Fed up with this sneaky photo play trash to a good film.
1940 Pride And Prejudice please calored
The English peter graves not the american one!

Ho resistito fino all'ultimo per vedere abito da sposa, belli i vestiti, attrice molto bella, ma un po' grassa.... Però bella.
Una tonta comedia.
