I've maintained for years that whaling is a relic of the 19th century, and has no place in the 21st century. The right whale is all but extinct in the north Atlantic. The Atlantic gray whale has been extinct for nearly two centuries. The humpback and fin whales remain at a tiny fraction of their historical numbers.
