@@johnnypham6095 If you're playing solo queue, definitely yes. initiators give entry so that duelists can kill, smokers block off odd angles so that duelists don't die before they kill, sentinels watch flanks so that duelists can kill without worrying about backstabs. I'm an Astra main in Diamond right now. Astra has such a dynamic kit that you can do a bloody lot with, and mixing your playstyle to fit the situation can net you wins. harbor is currently very strong on split, he can clear out all enemy lines of sight on A while giving the team a free beeline for the plant and can do the opposite on the defense where you give enemies no chance to move around safely.
hi, low elo brim main here, love the video but i was confused about one part... i want to lurk sometimes but always felt that lurking as controller is a bad idea because lurking is high risk of dying and if you die early your team is screwed without smokes. how do you balance this? do you have to just stay safe until you smoke for your team and then go?
From what I have seen, the lurk itself is often the problem, you only go lurking when you have a stack team and your friends know the risk and have trust in you. In my 3 stack it's often the guy playing sentinels who would lurk on attack, or if I'm playing omen in mid on defense, I would lurk if my friends say the enemies are committing to their site. On attack it's always the best to stick together and have the sentinel guy on flank watch and go lurk if needed, at least that's how we go in low elo. But for real, just don't bother with lurking in low elo, we only do that when we run out of options. I've had matches where the brim guy instead of rotating, decided to lurk from a haven through long to c long, placing no defensive smoke and then baited the whole team by the time he arrived, bro clutched 1 round then got clapped every time after that
i think this is a problem with harbor sometimes, since all your smokes reveal your location since it comes ditectly from you he’s not really suitable for lurking

I want an initiator video like that if there isn't one! I love putting all my flashes, stuns and utility on the site for my team to wait until all my util stops working(flash and stuns wearing off, etc) and go in and die
5:12 Please do not cast these walls, they give the ennemies way too much space to flood onto site and then potentially pop through the wall, ESPECIALLY because you got a pick on Yoru and there are at most 2 defenders on site! Same goes for that bad wall at 2:43 that lets ennemies jump out of heaven safely, giving up the main advantage on A site postplants.
I am a Sova main, but after starting to play again a few days ago after a long time, I wanted to try out some other Agents. One of them being Omen and even after a few rounds I encountered the problem with the team not pushing after I smoked and how stressful it can be to smoke for your team while also trying to make a good play with your teleport (wich often doesn't work either because I'm stupid or haven't played Omen enough)
One more thing: on attack side, you time your smokes up perfectly when ur team is hitting a site, and they stop immediately just because of a single flash or trap; when your smokes go off, they start hitting again and then die them all, blaming you not smoking for them.
Tbh for most controller mains, at least ones I'm friends with, multi tasking just come naturally. Most time when I lurk, my brain is like it's on two separate timers. I use my smokes but when my smokes are either gone or not useful anytime in the forseeable future then I start hunting with my teammates to make the most of my paranoia in combination with my Skye and duelists (specifically Skye because one of my friends is a Skye main).

1 thing I think people get wrong a lot is smoking on a stacked sight too earlier. If your defending and you have 3 on a site and the enemy team makes noise to signal a push you should hold your smoke until the enemy starts to execute out. You want them to push this site. Often people smoke early. The enemy team pauses and rotates or lurk up and take space when if they had just rushed your stacked site you would have rolled them or worst case traded out.
One thing that frustrates me as a smoker main is that when you put up all your smokes because your team is ready to push in... AND THEY DON'T PUSH IN. and then later when they do and my smokes have faded of course I get the blame XD 'why didn't you smoke?!' because when I did y'all stood there like trees not moving
I understand why most people dont want to play Controllers, but by playing controllers you are basically the core, the brains, the playmaker, and the minds of your team. Just like the name, Controllers are the agents that are able Control situations in that match, us Controllers play these agents because we will always know that no matter what, we are the ones in Controll of our games. Controllers are like a key to your games, because a good Controller is what determines you're going to lose or you're going to win.
Finally someone saying FACTS and understanding how shitty it is to play as a team in low elo as a controller. You need the whole team to agree and act with what you placed.. Thank you for raising awareness about our role
just to update, non-damaging assists now only give 25 per assist. its bs how a controller can go 14/15/20 and still be under the leaderboard of someone who went 15/15/0
The reason i play controller is because i get to be the one controlling the map and keeping angles "safe" simply by smoking, you also have so many different plays you're able to do with their abilities. Nice video and cool concept 🫶
I play a variety of agents, but never duelist. Main for each role besides duelist is kayo, brim, and chamber. My aim is always better with controllers tho i swear. Would play omen more but brims ult and triple smokes can be too fun sometimes
Whenever I smoke, my friend asks me to lurk. Whenever I lurk, my friend asks for a smoke. Both of which got me killed because I was by myself in enemy territory. Love being a Controller
resmoke timing was hilariously easy with 5 star astra since i remember being able to resmoke a site for a full main push without putting any brainpower into it 15 s pop both smokes wait for the timer and pop the wall or another 2 smokes
I used to be a Fade main and wanted to start playing Neon more, but people kept instalocking duelists so I always end up filling in lmao. by now I’m a Viper main not by choice, but because no one ever wants to play smokes. but ig Viper also counts as duelist and initiator considering the fact that I have to enter site as her too💀

As a omen/astra main in immortal lobbys i can say that mvp was pretty hard thing to do, but if you learn how to play around your smokes and map you can easily get mvp
what annoys me the most as main controller is dealing with ppl who think they know shit about the role i play for 4 years. Having to listen to "viper, what kind of screens is this? you should be using this way that will be obvious for the oposing team to know where we are" while doing line ups or placing smokes as omen is some mute and report type of shit to me. Controllers are like a key to your games, because a good Controller is what determines you're going to lose or you're going to win.
I tried to lurk in silver and gold tier. However, my teammates kept asking me to go with them. Most of the time we got eliminated lmao.
Do I have paranoia or the image changed from viper smoke to this
Actually, I find lurking as a controller to be troll. Cause if you die, your team is condemned to play the rest of the round without smokes
Finally someone saying FACTS and understanding how shitty it is to play as a team in low elo as a controller. You need the whole team to agree and act with what you placed..
Thank you for raising awareness about our role
Could you do this with sentinels pls? Im a sentinel main and something like this might refresh my knowledge! Awesome content as always mrlowlander!
i quit valorant a long time ago but i still watch you keep it up hope you reach 1 million subs
just to update, non-damaging assists now only give 25 per assist. its bs how a controller can go 14/15/20 and still be under the leaderboard of someone who went 15/15/0
Im an omen/viper/reyna main so if i wanna go brains i go smokes, no brain go reyna lulw
Controller is like a plumber, everybody thinks they can do their job until they get in deep sh*t 😂

I started using Omen as my first agent without knowing what a controller is but I am bonded with him now..
Did you play bind in premier the other day as raze? I think we went against each other I was the jett, we had a pheonix kayo brim and gekko
Im a harbor main and this is lore accurate
Whenever I smoke, my friend asks me to lurk. Whenever I lurk, my friend asks for a smoke. Both of which got me killed because I was by myself in enemy territory.
Love being a Controller
so true i have to keep mark at 16 secs on omen to smoke again
resmoke timing was hilariously easy with 5 star astra since i remember being able to resmoke a site for a full main push without putting any brainpower into it
15 s pop both smokes wait for the timer and pop the wall or another 2 smokes
I used to be a Fade main and wanted to start playing Neon more, but people kept instalocking duelists so I always end up filling in lmao. by now I’m a Viper main not by choice, but because no one ever wants to play smokes. but ig Viper also counts as duelist and initiator considering the fact that I have to enter site as her too💀
I mainly play 3 agents
1)Kayo: I suppress I Flash I kill
2) Gekko: dizzy puke Wingy Plant Mosh hold I kill
3)Omen(lot actually):I smoke I lurk I TP I knife I Flash I smoke again I lurk again
As a chamber main I appreciate smokers making one way for me
thank you! to all of u fellow controllers who are more important then damn duelists in this incredible relaxing mind blowing game
As a omen/astra main in immortal lobbys i can say that mvp was pretty hard thing to do, but if you learn how to play around your smokes and map you can easily get mvp
I actually got mvp with viper in a silver 1 match by hitting a 1v4 ace post plant, ended up getting 37 rr.
As a hardcore omen main, i actually mvp a lot. i smoke for my team, then proceed to be a duelist by entering and flashing.
Hey, you know how at the start of the video he moves the omen smoke like that?
0:04 how do you do this with omen? I need to know because I main him and I never knew this
what annoys me the most as main controller is dealing with ppl who think they know shit about the role i play for 4 years. Having to listen to "viper, what kind of screens is this? you should be using this way that will be obvious for the oposing team to know where we are" while doing line ups or placing smokes as omen is some mute and report type of shit to me. Also ppl who pick viper and don't use her stuff at all, they literraly just play cs deathmatch.
Maybe Harbor to ascendant next?
Would really appreciate that
Controllers are extremely underrated.
Imagine paralazin yourself and then complaining that you have a hard time winning a running race
How the f did the omen smoke move without the fov moving? Is it a old bug?
