- Today we look at one of my favorite duels from 5Ds! I feel this duel often gets overlooked, so I really wanted to breakdown just what makes this duel so special.

What Made Aporia VS Jack, Rua, and Ruka so Special?
Two kids fighting for their lives. With Jack being the older brother. You can see the pride on Jack’s face when Rua becomes a Signer.

"life is beautiful" is probably one of the best attack commands ever especially when Leo says it in his Jp voice. It fills you with hope and hype at the same time

Fun fact: The heart-shaped Signer mark was actually first shown in the YGO 5D’s DS games (WC2009 and WC2010) way before this duel. So to see it in the anime was both amazing and shocking 🙂

As a big fan of the 5D's DS games and having got them as they released... I honestly was annoyed after 5D's ended that I never noticed it earlier.

@@Onefanguy I ended up winning the last duel because I had kept a level eight monster in my hand, and was able to bait out a torrential tribute. I was then able to summon Demise, clear the field, and go for game with a direct attack.
A duel I would love to see be tackled in one of these videos, ABSOLUTELY Revovler Vs Soulburner in Vrains. One of the few duels in a ygo show that genuinely got me choked up in the feels while watching it and left me speechless after it was over

It takes only a few turns, but there is volumes spoken in that dual. Please analyze it for us.
The fact that Aporia almost won this 3v1 duel without extra turns, extra cards, extra life points, extra ANYTHING unlike all the other 3v1s like paradox or godwin makes this all the crazier.
Rua becoming Signer not only symbolized his growth, but also showed Aporia that future isn't set in stone. Rua was not supposed to be a Signer according to Z-One. So the fact that he became one is testament of change Team 5D's brought.
Yes!! Great YGO theme, that the future can be changed. Makes me think of Kaiba VS Ishizu
This duel has so much meaning for me. Rua has helped me keep going in life. His lesson taught me so deeply to my core that I got his mark tattooed on my arm. It’s a powerful reminder that there’s no despair, only hope.
I love Aporia and the Meklord Emeperors, there is just something enduring that despite how many times he loses he keeps coming back determined to complete his goals.
It wish we could have seen an English dub version of this duel and the Meklord Emeperors in real life were more like how they were in the anime.

Probably because that duel has a bit of violence and death scenes is the reason why these episodes never got dubbed
@@YugiohEverything Love your work. I just thought of a funny idea, comparing the English dub story endings of GX and 5ds and deceiding which 1 was the best.
Since both shows didn't finish there English dubs I wondered which ending would fans prefer over the other. Honestly I see arguments for either. 5ds ED ending was happy while the GX ED ending was ambiguous which made it standout more.

But what i never understood, was something what happened in the first Round (during Rukas turn). She played at the beginning two cards face down.

I know that we never saw it because she didnt play it. But i never saw that in a Duell before, that someone played a face down card without using it. Wait!! I know you guys think "Wait this happened often before" but the difference is, when it happened it has a reason. (Something like, ok in my next turn i will play this trap card to win (but the enemy destroyed it or played something else that you can no longer activate your trap card.
But it never happened before that on Charackter played a face down card (without thinking about the tactic or soemthing else and just dont use the face down card until the end...
That is very confusing for me and for years i dont get a solution for that.
I hope you understand my point and could maby explain why or make example where this happened in an other situation because i am sure this dont happened before ( i mean it never happened before in Yugioh or Yugioh 5ds)
This Duel was so good and the 1st time I seen this duel I lost my shit watching the entire duel it was so action packed and fact Leo became a signer at was the biggest plot twist
I wish he had become one earlier, but he earned it
Rua’s theme is one of the best Yu Gi Oh themes of all time. It is a perfectly musical representation of hope and victory. Finally seeing my Life Stream Dragon after so long was just great. Out of all Signers, I feel Rua proves he deserves his the most out of everyone.
For me it’s kinda what made Mark of the Monkey special.
Leo has the resolve to keep getting up against an overwhelming opponent, his best supports with him, and it has the payoff here at long last with Life Stream coming to life. The heart shown here is what Aporia tried to cast away in folly, and it’s similar to someone as corrupted as a Dark Signer. These two duels are why I continue Leo the “Joey” of 5Ds instead of Crow.
Very good connection there, I often forget about that Dark Signer duel as it's my least fav of that arc, but it def does help with the payoff 100% here
@@YugiohEverything I feel one more striking parallel with this duel’s 3v1 mechanic and The Big 4 Vs Duke, Tristan, and Serenity.
If this was a nod, way to elevate that game as well with the themes of this group of characters.
I really liked how Leo / Rua stepped up despite all the setbacks & despair and fought back with Life Stream Dragon. Plus all 3 duelists working together to pull off a combo during the last turn to beat Aporia. Definitely my favorite of the 3 Arc Cradle duels prior to the Zone battle. Though it was hard watching Luna / Ruka constantly suffering throughout the duel in all honesty.
Yeah there's times where it's genuinely uncomfortable to watch, which just adds to the overall impact of the battle
At that moment, Leo decided to go into competent Yuhi mode and face a difficult challenge.
Either way, a bit of a shame that both (yes, both Leo and Luna) lost steam/relevance in the second half of 5Ds.
This duel of Jack, Rua, and Ruca versus Aporia was definitely a great duel, with the life and death stakes for the protagonists, Rua doubting himself yet still maintaining hope to help protect Ruca as well as play his part in winning the duel, Rua's sacrifice which resulted in him becoming a signer, Rua's power tool dragon evolving into the true 5th signer dragon Lifestream Dragon, and how Jack, Rua, and Ruca worked together to defeat Aporia, and even restore his hope, which plays a role in stopping Z-one.
What made the duel special for me was Leo becoming a Signer due to the Crimson Dragon reviving him and how he helps Luna as well as Jack. The emotion throughout the duel was intense especially when Leo drops dead, Jack shouts at at Leo to wake up and Luna’s life points dropping because of her feeling despair. Also the editing is funny

Funny because in the manga, the twins were evil but handled a bit better.
The raw emotions, the strength of friendship, the message of hope and powering through adversity, to overall defeat the enemy and grow as a duelist is just simply amazing. These moments are why I love yugioh so much

Everything, the meklord designs, the ABSOLUTELY MAGNIFICENT OSTs
This video is absolute incredible you did an incredible job. You made this duel sounds even more frightening. Also your edits is great. It remind me of TGS Anime duel analysis on how you break this duel.
One of the best parts is what Ancient Fairy Dragon says; Rua thought to sacrifice himself and entrust his hope to Ruka and Jack, but he's told that he can't do that, his sister needs him to be there with her, as evidenced by her panicking and literally starting to die of grief when Rua dies, so he makes a miracle happen and rises up to the challenge.
Two little kids, so vulnerable yet being able to keep up if they stay together. Man I still almost cry everytime
Maybe it's just me, but when I watched this duel it reminded me so much of Serenity, Duke, and Tristan vs Nezbitt
I was just thinking the exact thing, felt like a nod to that duel in terms of who would be whose opponents.

Honestly, I think Luna suffered actual Heart Damage from the duel to the point that seeing Leo “die” in front of her actually caused her heart to fail physically, which was why she was losing life points. Not necessarily “despair”, but closer to a heart attack from shock and physical trauma.
You are overthinking it; she is dying of a broken heart; watching your twin die in such a manner can cause that (doesn't have to be romantic love to die of broken heart)
Her reaction and his "death" make this scene IMO the darkest in Yu-Gi-Oh history as Aporia literally tortured 2 young children to death.
Yes they both survive: doesn't stop the sequence from being dark and saddening
@@ericgurvitz9504 I understand what your saying, but as Aporia states, and has been a thing when facing against Aporia’s split forms (the infinity symbol), damage becomes real. Take enough damage and stress, and things aren’t good. Plus, those monitors pierced through the chest, likely connecting directly to the heart.
Don’t ignore earlier dialogue so easily.
7:50 if I could have changed anything in 5ds I would have given Leo and Luna the wings of the dragon. Imagine when before the series started Leo and Luna had the wings, but due to luna’s declining health and Leo’s desire to give some of his life to his sister so she could be better he unknowingly gave his signer mark to his sister for her to get better so by the time the series began Luna had both wings.
And by this point in the story where the roles are flipped and Leo gets his own revival the wing that was his given to his sister returns to him now that Luna wants to help her brother in turn.
Elated to see you did a vid on this duel Dylan! This is literally one of my all-time favorites in ALL of YGO history! I literally cry EVERY time I watch it…along with it being an awesome duel, the emotion it evokes, the themes it emphasizes, and Rua’s/Leo’s development throughout the duel…..simply amazing! I also love how you accented Jack, Rua/Leo, and Ruka’s/Luna’s teamwork because they truly did it together! 🥲❤
Aporia vs Jack/Rua/Ruka is probably one of my top favorite 5Ds duels so its nice to see it covered here.
For a future duel, one I would possibly like to see covered would be one of my favorite Zexal duels, Yuma Tsukumo vs III.

Its honestly my favourite duel in 5ds because everything in it works. I also thought that they captured the whole hope and despair situation p well.
As for the next "What made this duel special", i still think of Soulburner vs Revolver R2 as one of the best in the series. Its one of the few duels that its so great without having any high stakes and, yes, while you have talked about it in some VRAINS videos, i think that it still deserves it's own vid so prob check it out again
I was actually thinking of this duel randomly today, what a surprise!
I know that duel was really awesome because it shows Leo’s courage and determination to protect his sister Luna I sure wish I could see this in the dubbed version
I catch myself watching the whole last season of 5D's often because every duel in the Ark Cradle was fantastic in my opinion but this one very much took the cake for me. Rua/Leo was always one of those characters that I wanted to root for and I resonated with his Morphtronic deck immediately since it was always so cool to me. To this day, Power Tool Dragon is still one of my favorite Synchro monsters. I was so happy they did him justice in this episode but it was a hell of a road to get there. How the hell could he have possibly known what Aporia's traps were? Bro just tryna help. T~T
ITS SUCH A GOOD ARC! Always surprised when people say everything after Dark Signers in 5Ds was BAD. I couldn't disagree with that more, I think the NAC arc is on the level of DS, or maybe a slight step below it. It's fantastic
Probably because the sheer amount of retcons among other issues post-Dark Signers.
Leo becoming the 6th Signer and Life Stream Dragon finally makes its appearance, even though it should have happened in the Dark Signer arc with the original writing.
But overall, this duel was so amazing and Leo got his time to shine like a true hero. I'm very proud of him

Yet Life Stream Dragon (nor Tech Genius Halberd Cannon) got to be cover art for Extreme Victory. Instead it was Junk Berserker, a monster that hardly did anything.

I recently watched Yugioh 5D's subbed for the first time and man this duel was amazing!
I’ve kind of drifted away from YGO in general over the last few years, but this duel will always have a special place in my heart. Leo’s rebirth is one of my favorite moments in anime, maybe fiction (it’s also super cool mechanically, I think - Lighton’s effect reviving Leo is really smart) and being the sibling dynamics lover that I am, I don’t think I’ll ever forget it.
That intro pictures though, almost as surreal as Aporia's anatomy.

Actually Rua was supposed to be one of the signer since the beginning (Lifestream dragon was shown alongside others signer’s dragons even in flashbacks); however Crow and the Blackwing archetype became so popoular that he literally snatched the sit place from Rua (at least until to this point). If you think about it Black-Wing Dragon doesn’t fit at all with the rest of the archetype.
This is a myth that has been debunked already. There is an entire Reddit post about this. The truth of the matter, the writers who took over for Season 2 like Crow.
the duel is so fucking dark when RUa literally dies, but then he gets revived and its super triumphant and heartwarming especially Ruka and Ruas conversation, then we, finally. GET THE PAY OFF OF LIFE STREAM DRAGON THATS BEEN MIA SINCE THE OP/ED OF THE DARK SIGNERS ARC!!!! and as APoria loses he seems to accept his humanity. Beautiful stuff from a goated arc.
All these years later, I think the twins are both underrated characters who could have been received a lot better with more consistent treatment. Rua/Leo finishing his arc in such a satisfying way was definitely great to see, and this duel is a good part of what made the final arc as amazing as it was.

That’s the problem with the twins in general, they can’t evolve past supporting roles.
I love how Lua went from idolising Jack in season 1 to getting called useless by him in season 2 to saving his live in his final duel
Really was a great duel development for all of them. The revival scene was amazing seeing life stream dragon finally appear to Leo! Seeing the connection with Luna with Leo once again was interesting. Jack pulling the win with his Red Nova Dragon but still teling Aporia about not despairing man you could not ask for a better duel
Rua his step up to the plate moment when he saves his sister and even jack expressing genuine worry for him when his heart stopped all these piece falling into a perfect puzzle

My second favorite duel in the final season. My no.1 was Yusei vs Antimony Round 2
Perhaps for future duels you could go a little more in depth about the build up and aftermath of the duel to really showcase why it is so special. Unless you are trying to avoid spoilers outside the duel. For example, Aporia is using the anti-synchro strategy that he does because synchro summoning is what lead the world to ruin.
As for the next duel you cover, I'm going to recommend a duel from each show through Vrains.

I watched this duel month ago, just before sunrise after all night long maraton of final episodes of 5Ds (because I wanted to finish it in the same number day when I started it ;) ) and after earlier episodes (WRGP final) it's incredible I still had tears to shed, when I watched it. All this heartstoping moments, when they was losing life points, all of the pain when I saw Rua trying so hard and despite this making things worse was unbearable, I literally was gripping my crossed fingers and praying for our team to get up from kneels and after I saw Rua just fell down on the floor, I don't really remember if I cried, I screamed or just was sitting motionless from the shock. I know one - when Signer's marks started glowing (not just shining, literally glowing like glitter-made), and sign of Crimson Dragon appear on Rua and new part - the heart appear too, and this freaking amazing song hit my ears in headphones, I started crying from joy and relief, and I stayed like that for the rest of the duel.
This duel, just like others duel in the final still staying vivid in my heart.
As many pointed out, this was where Leo became the sixth signer and see the reveal of Life Stream Dragon. It was such a crazy duel... Jack, Leo and Luna's literal lives on the line and Leo having to watch his friend and sister suffer throughout. But this gave us a great time to see Leo shine, overcome despair and be a hero. Just everything about this duel, as dark and despairing as it was, it was great

Leo, who fought so hard to be like his sister, his idol, and his inspiration (Luna, Jack, and Yusei respectively), realized he had limits and needed to break them, risking his actual life in the process without guaranteeing if he could succeed, and not only does so, but inspires his opponent to do the same.
Leo faced himself in this duel as much as he faced Aporia.
I definitely think Judai vs Yubel needs to be talked about. That duel has everything you could ask for and the themes involved in it are absolutely insane.
This duel is good, it makes me a little upset because it took this long for Leo to get some character focus after his duel with Devak. I wish Season 2 focused more on the other half of Team 5Ds, so that character moments like this didn't feel bittersweet.

Revolver Vs Soulburner.
This duel when I first watched the episode when I felt apart of the show had me gasp cause I’m like Revolver that’s dirty taking them to the location of the lost incident. The back and forth and the penultimate turn had me shook cause revolver sets up the amazing board.
When flame dies a part of me did too. To have him deliver that final message was needed closure. Soulburner claims the hard fought win, and needed closure and much needed words from Revolver as well.
This is the type of duel that really makes me like the yugioh anime.

My second favorite duel in that final season. Number 1 was Yusei vs Antimony Round 2
Hopefully, we'll get to see what made Yami Yugi, Kaiba vs. Dartz special real soon.
This definitely is one of the greatest duels, since it showed Aporia being deadly, questions if the heroes are capable of moving forward in the future if they cant even save each other, and Rua's character arc finally paying off with the greatest comeback

My favourite part is Jack saying to Aporia "You still don't get it, do you? That feeling in your heart isn't despair! What you're feeling is hope! Hope for the future!"
I loved this duel
Leo for a long time was essentially a comic relief character and hard to take seriously even though he had some skills as a duellist
He was insecure over how he didn’t think he’d be able to protect his sister (as shown when he told Luna he wanted to stay behind when they went to fight the Dark Signers)
In this duel , Leo essentially committed suicide to give Luna and Jack a fighting chance (I still question Luna’s points dropping when she never took damage when Leo died)
Leo had his breakthrough moment how he was revived as a Signer
Leo proved he could protect his sister and he’s more than the comic relief 😃😃

IV vs Nasch was my favorite Zexal duel. I think its pretty underrated. If you could cover that one I that that would be fantastic!

So this is a rush duel, but I love the duel between Luke and Yuga Goha in Sevens.
Leo's time to shine and he keeps getting better as his dragon carries and I would have loved to see his journey
Though it also shows that while Luna is the "genius" she doesn't like to duel as much showing her quitting immediately after the final zone fight.
Probably one of the better endings in Yu-Gi-Oh as the cast actually get to grow up and only jack leo and crow stay dueling in their own ways

@@YugiohEverything with his potential he could have gotten steam anytime from the dark signer fight to aporia but I feel it was perfect to see him be the mvp
I was hoping he go into more detail, specifically more about aporia ideals, he talk about the despair that he was force to endure throughout his life
Leo: losing those who love you, referring to his parents
Luna: losing those who you love, referring to losing his lover
Jack: having no one left to love: referring to being the only human to survive the apocalypse (I’m referring to before he met zone & the other)
Then we see his past again when aporia memories start to flood in, being hunted by the meklord as a kid, being in the army as an adult, being alone in a destroyed world in his elderly year!
Those memories are the reason why aporia wanted to throw away his humanity and what cause him to go insane!
Then we have Leo who at one part just skip his turn because he felt so bad for his previous mistake, so he decided to do nothing to avoid hurting his friends again only to immediately regret that decision cause he remember that he could have tried to protect his sister from being hurt
And we have the flashback where we see him praying over his comatose sister when they was children, asking for any god or Devine being to bring his sister back!
I would love for you to go over the jaden vs yubel duel, I think that would be a good duel to go over, seeing Jaden trying to figure out his feeling for yubel.
Struggling between feeling guilty for what he did (unknowingly) to yubel and making her as crazy as she is. & resenting her for causing him and his friends so much pain.
Learning about the promise that he made to yubel centuries ago in another life and how much she truly do love and care for him!
Seeing yubel just go more and more crazy as the duel progressed as she is dueling the Person that she love, only to be force to accept that the person she love resent her, so instead of trying to be with said person. She goes for the ‘IF I CANT HAVE THEN NO ONE CAN’ Approach. Only to cry when Jaden decide to love her and be with her forever by fusing with her, ending his own life so they can mature together.
Before anyone get mad at me about yubel gender, I am more familiar with the English dub, I grew up on the English as a kid, I watch it countless time. So while I am fully aware that yubel is bi-gender or whatever. I’m more use to her being a women and will refer to her as such, plus it’s still technically correct since she is both gender. If you want anyone to blame for that, blame 4kids

1 thing I should say: Red Dragon Archfiend could not actually attack any of the Meklord Armies on the turn it was summoned, since duels like these always follow the rule that no player is allowed to attack on their first turn. So even without Power-Up Connector they were still pretty screwed as Aporia could just use Granel's effect to halve RDA's ATK and beat it over (and he'd still have Power Gravity face-down in case Rua would use that smarter moment to use Power-Up Connector). Of course, they'd take a lot less damage (or "just" less damage if Rua were to try and use Power-Up Connector to protect RDA), so it still would've opened up Ruka and/or Jack (depending on how Aporia would split his damage) to play more cards.
I remember seeing this duel just straight ripped from the anime on YT and holy crap, it hits so hard
My favorite duels in all of yugioh will always be Joey vs Marik. Leo/Luna/ Jack vs Aporia. Then finally kite vs mizar(albeit kite vs yuma early on was so sick and really cemented him for me.)
Interestingly my favorite 3 characters joey, leo, kite are all protective brothers with a dragon ace monster with 2 being level 7 and 2(counting power and lifestream as the same) being level 8 and then 2 being "-eyes" monsters

Aporia didnt know about a 6th signer let alone Lifestream Dragon, thus proving and foreshadowing the future being changed.
The editing is great keep it up. Seriously this is peak content in terms of yu-gi-oh at least😊

I got so emotional when Rua became a signer. He’s been wanting to be 1 since he knew about them. I was like “let’s goooo Rua”! 🥺🔥🔥🔥
Is it bad for this duel I wanted to see Ancient Fairy Dragon evolve along with Powertool and save Rua? Like he of course deserves Life Stream but I figured it would be cool if Life Stream still got overpowered by Aporia but then Ruk/Luna, determined to save her bro, gets Ancient Fairy Dragon to evolve further switching its defense power to offense and a new effect that can assist others/itself if possible. That would be cool seeing an evolved Ancient Fairy Dragon, Lifestream and Red Nova together against Aporia.
Hey Dylan, after seeing this video,could you do a video on Shark vs. Quattro. Either their duel during the world duel carnival or the one during the barian onslaught arch. Either one would be cool to see you cover 😊and who knows hopefully tgs anime will cover the same duel in his was x about to defeat y series...hint hint 😉 😄
I'd love to see him do one on the Barian Onslaught Duel. I'm mainly a Dub Viewer so I got the stuff where Quattro was like "You're my best friend Shark, and I am going to snap you back into reality so Yuma won't have to." and what have you, but that to me was the better one of the two.
@mikebottomlesspitdunham2954 yeah I definitely agree the dub version of shark vs quattro is definitely the best version especially their duel in the barian onslaught arch and I would love to see it analyzed.
Hopefully, we'll get to see what makes the Playmaker vs Ai final duel so special. That's still one of my favorite duels of all time!

This is one of my favorite duels too. 5D's hit the mark with a more mature story and themes.
My personal opinion is because Leo finally got his moment after all the bs with him getting toss to the side by crow because his deck was more popular. I’ve always love seeing characters like him shine. This moment with him should have happen during the dark signers ark.
I would LOVE to see this kind of video for Jaden vs Aster both round 1 and 2. The first duel showed how broken destiny heroes were compared to E heroes and Jaden having completely no control in the duel. the 2nd showing how fluid E heroes and Neo Spacians worked so well together PLUS showed Aster's full destiny hero potential.
I loved this duel so much because it gave Aporia the respect he deserved as the season villain. sure he didnt end up being the big bad but up until his late turn around betrayal of Z-one he absolutely was ruthless. this duel showed he didnt care about killing kids and it forced the 3 heroes to go all out and even beyond because of the circumstances. on top of that it led to Aporia making a great duel against Z-one and giving Yusei the power he needed to fight. this duel MIGHT have been the best duel in the season plot wise (The best duel in the season was against the ragnarok gods)

Yugioh GX later half of Season 3 had some really good ones so if I had to pick, Zane/Hell Kaiser VS Yubel-Jesse/Johan. Purely because of the mastery Kaiser displayed, the tension of it all, actually putting Yubel on the back pedal, and just what a send off for 1 of the best Duelists.
Really any major duel from Season 3 once Jaden/Judai started becoming the Supreme King was so impactful

But what i never understood, was something what happened in the first Round (during Rukas turn). She played at the beginning two cards face down.

But what is the other card???
I know that we never saw it because she didnt play it. But i never saw that in a Duell before, that someone played a face down card without using it. Wait!! I know you guys think "Wait this happened often before" but the difference is, when it happened it has a reason. (Something like, ok in my next turn i will play this trap card to win (but the enemy destroyed it or played something else that you can no longer activate your trap card.
But it never happened before that on Charackter played a face down card (without thinking about the tactic or soemthing else and just dont use the face down card until the end...
That is very confusing for me and for years i dont get a solution for that.
I hope you understand my point and could maby explain why or make example where this happened in an other situation because i am sure this dont happened before ( i mean it never happened before in Yugioh or Yugioh 5ds)
