⁺₊⋆ ☀︎ ⋆⁺₊ Veronika Varga as a Budapest-based, Hungarian singer (‪@BudaPesme‬ , ‪@babraband‬ , ‪@VreMeaValkania‬ ) stages one of the best-known genres of modern Greek music culture, #Rembetiko in a unique way, with her fellow musicians. Her program, ”Mortissa - Divas of the Greek Rebetiko” was premiered on the stage of the House of Music Hungary, in 2024.
⁺₊⋆ ☀︎ ⋆⁺₊ Mortissa is none other than the woman of fate herself - the expression appearing in the Greek rebetiko songs of the beginning of the last century, characterizes the dangerously, almost fatally attractive woman. A strong and independent female figure who offends many, who serves as a role model for others, a mischievous provocateur of social norms, a lover of freedom, who is not deterred by the smell of tobacco or alcohol, neither by expressing her thoughts and feelings, enjoying and proudly presenting her femininity in the least sophisticated spaces of the male-dominated world, such as the coffeehouses of the 20th century.
