Mastering the Single Plane Golf Swing | Moe Norman's Perfect Swing
Watch Moe Norman at the end of this video to witness the epitome of the perfect Single Plane Golf Swing.
Understanding the Single Plane Golf Swing:
One of the most common questions I receive is, "What are the most important things when it comes to swinging on a Single Plane?" While many are looking for a shortcut, the truth is, mastering the Single Plane Swing is a process.
In this video, I delve into what I consider the essential steps to mastering the Single Plane Swing in the proper order. This Model-Order-Measure process is what makes the Single Plane Swing so unique. Each part of the swing, starting from the very beginning, is intricately connected to the next. This seamless progression means that every position is crucial because it follows the ideal sequence.
    About the Single Plane Swing:
The Single Plane golf swing isn't just a quick-fix technique-it's a comprehensive system designed to simplify the most critical moment of the golf swing: impact.
    Key Points:
Simplification at Address: Unlike the Conventional golf swing where arms hang straight down at address, necessitating an upward movement into impact and creating stress on the back, the Single Plane Swing begins on the same plane as impact. This eliminates unnecessary movements and reduces stress on the body.
Efficiency and Effectiveness: By starting and impacting on the same plane, the Single Plane Swing reduces the complexity of the golf swing, making it easier to achieve consistent, powerful shots.
Model-Order-Measure Process: Every step in the Single Plane Swing is interlinked, ensuring that each position is executed in the ideal order for maximum efficiency and effectiveness.
Join me as I walk you through this revolutionary approach to golf, demonstrating how every element of the Single Plane Swing contributes to a more straightforward and powerful golf swing. Don't miss Moe Norman's perfect swing at the end of the video-it's a true masterpiece of the Single Plane technique.

It was interesting watching Bryson's swing during the US Open, especially his front foot movement during his swing where he lifted his lead heel off the ground during takeaway and dropped it back to the ground to start his transition. I immediately went to the range and tried it and noticed how it makes it so easy to create the "vertical drop" without thinking too much about it.

    Hey Todd,
I got back into golfing after 20 years and decided after a few frustrating rounds to study and try using single plane. I played a quick 9 holes today and shot a 40 which for me is by far the lowest since starting to play again! Missed fairway on hole one but hit the rest!
Great content and looking forward to learning more about this system!

6:32 - By the time Moe's lead arm was parallel to the ground in the backswing he was already starting his move towards the target with his lower body. Amazing timing and PATIENCE!

Greetings Todd outstanding video. The thing that stood out the most for me was the sound of impact when you demonstrated hitting the ball. Wow!!!!

Great video. It's the only golf swing I've used since you started your Single Plane program. This was a wonderful reminder of how simple and easy the Single Plane swing can be. Thank You Todd for keeping Moe Norman's legacy alive all these years. My brother in law is always amazed at how well I hit the ball, even after long stints of not playing regularly. Muscle memory, along with the Single Plane swing = long, straight shots every time. And kudos to your short game and putting videos. My bad for not always hitting the like button. But just know that I wouldn't golf any other way. Thank You Todd.

Hello Tood. I really like the idea that I've heard you say that transition is more part of backswing than downswing. And as it is very important maybe it should have its own name, and be called POSITION 2B, right? greetings and thank you very much for your fabulous content!

Just started watching your videos, this makes so much sense to me after 30 + years of struggling with the modern golf swing and instruction. Im hooked with getting this model right. Ive never made so many position to position swings with a broom handle in front of a mirror before trying to engrave this into my muscle memory. Im close, have some inconsistencywith face angle and back foot staying down but I’ve never hit it better. My question though is when I play on the course now it seems like I have lost 5-10 yards in distance with my irons, Im also hitting it much higher Im assuming due to Tilt is this common and normal? Will I get my distance back as it has my yardages a bit messed up. Thanks Todd for keeping Moe and his swing alive! -Mike

One of the best features of Todd Graves teachings is once you learn the keys of this swing you have something to fall back on all during your round. When your round starts to go south you can re-set in minutes by just going through the keys any time during your round. And things like turn don't sway dummy or stop rotating the trail hand can bring back a par after that snowman.

Have you seen the video of Kelly Slater showing how he’s changed to the single plane Moe Norman swing?? Pretty cool. He’s got a beautiful swing. You should try to get him on for a collab video, Todd.

4:42 - 100% spot on. Most people ARE guessing? They don't run video from at least DTL and face on. They don't, at minimum, use some type of inexpensive launch monitor for data feedback. And then lastly, they don't spend time comparing their swing to the BEST. So how could they possibly know what to fix If they can't properly identify the area(s) that need work? If my health was 100%, I guarantee I would be on the range doing everything I mentioned above and enjoying every last bit of it. Then occasionally, take it to the course and just enjoy the round.

Todd could you do a video on how to make sure/or how, to set the wrist correctly on the back swing as for years I have fought setting or not setting the wrist (no wrist set loss of power) seems some days If I try and set the wrist I end up opening the club face and end up hitting beautiful straight shots right of target, in the sand or the lake.

I haven't played golf in ages, but if I get back to playing I will try the Graves/Moe Norman fundamentals.
...What is the key thought that starts your swing back? Some players do something with their knee or turn their heads slightly just before starting the back swing? With you and Moe, I can't tell what is the key thought to starting your back swing.

Hi,Todd, using your ball position tool being 5 foot 6. Has me doing the splits in the driver position? What am I supposed to be doing about that? Even in the mid iron position.I'm so wideI can't hardly rotate. But I can sure bend down and touch the ground. What should I do.?

looks to me like you keep your right elbow tucked in close to your body?

...Jack Nicklaus turned his elbow out slightly. He had a high swing plane. Worked quite nicely for him. With that technique, Jack was able to hit the ball higher and land softer on the greens than most swing planes.
...But seems to me, the Moe Norman technique helps eliminate the 'Paralysis by Analysis' flaw. Don't want to be thinking about too many things, no matter what technique and fundamentals are used.

In science, errors are ADDITIVE. Error analysis shows that reducing error at each step (of the experiment) leads to reliable, precise and accurate results. In the golf swing, error reduction ensures proper contact and the desired result. The SPS codifies this process by providing the positions to "hit" thereby allowing the swing to get from address to follow-through with the smallest amount of error. I use it every game. :)
