    Just saw him a couple hours ago in Plattsburgh NY and it was fucking awesome. The live sound was heavy the drums and bass were so pounding and the keyboard and guitar back and forth was a thing of beauty. One if the best shows I've seen in years. Just wow.

  • @catmanduu66
    @catmanduu66 6 дней назад

    I saw him this past Wednesday Nov. 13th in Saginaw, MI. What a show. I'd seen him twice in the eighties and this show was just as cool. The club was small so even in the balcony where I was it was like being up front at one of those arena shows back in the day. He was having a good time and when he talked into the mic between songs he left the reverb on which ticked off some guy. Then at the end of the show, after playing for a hour and forty five minutes and like more than twenty songs, this guy says to me "he didn't play my favorite song". Can't please everyone I guess.

    Oh, how the mighty have fallen..... Yngwie can't even play HIS OWN LICKS right anymore. Okay, let's be honest for a second here. He is still a PHENOMENAL guitar legend, an absolute virtuoso in every respect on his instrument. But, he's playing so fast he's screwing up his own riffs and improvising notes on the fly! That can be said is the TRUE measure of a legendary guitar god such as Malmsteen, but he's almost intentionally fucking up while trying to make it look like he's NOT trying to fuck it up....

    Despues de haber tenido bandas con musicos de mucha altura y con vocalistas top del heavy metal y el hard rock y de presentarse en grande escenarios ante miles de personas en todo el mundo, este Yngwie ahora es una version gris de lo que alguna vez fue con una oscura banda de desconocidos acompañandolo al fondo en versiones muy bizarras de sus legendarias canciones como pretexto para sus solos que suenan cada vez menos a lo que conocimos en sus discos. Todo esto como resultado de su gran ego que no le permitio mantener una banda como tal donde todos brillaran!

    I was the main soundman at Doug Weston’s Troubadour through the 90’s. Malmsteen’s WWIII came through one day. First off, he noodled at full volume through the entire soundcheck, making everyone scream for “Kick!!!” “Snare!!!”, etc. Later that night, during the final barrage in the encore, Yngwie threw his Strat up in the air. When it came down, it hit him in the head and caused a cut. His face turned three shades of red. He went to talk on his gold plated SM58, (he never sang), but someone in the audience had pulled out the cable so he couldn’t talk. He now turned another five shades of red. He was so pissed, he turned his head and hawked a loogie at the people watching at the side of the stage, hitting the tour manager’s wife straight in the face. A minute later, I saw the tour manager running across the stage up into the dressing room, and proceeded to have a full-on fist fight with Yngwie. The fought all the way out to the street. Later on, Malmsteen’s girlfriend came around and said she wanted to quit the tour that night because she knew Yngwie was going to beat the crap out of her.
    He lived up to every rumor I had heard about him.
    True story.

      Good old Yngwie. Mother Nature just decided to pick one of those guys normally reserved for the the "weird shithead neighbor everybody hates" stock, and said "you will play guitar like Zeus wields the thunder". Would have made a hell of a HOA president in another life.

  • @SaySomethingWorthHearing
    @SaySomethingWorthHearing 4 месяца назад +7

    I saw Yngwie during the Rising Force tour and although I loved some of the songs on that album and admire the incredible technical proficiency of his playing, I couldn't help but see him as a one trick pony. The difference between a player like Yngwie and a player like Nuno Bettencourt is that Nuno understands the value of the space between notes and he understands melody.
    There is no melody in a constant flurry of notes. Watching Yngwie is like watching some dragsters. After a few races, you're thinking, "Well, what else can it do?" and the answer is not much.
    Players like Nuno, Warren DeMartini, Jake E. Lee and Vivian Campbell can all play some fast stuff, but they generally know/knew when to hit the gas and when to make the guitar sing a song. Yngwie still hasn't figured that out.

    • @becauseiwasinverted5222
      @becauseiwasinverted5222 Месяц назад

      He used to understand melody. And space. But like all artists he eventually ran out of magic juice, and admittedly was often self indulgent. Doubt any of those one-hit wonders have anything on him, though. YJM has more hits & rep across the board. The average kid starting at guitar hasn't the first clue who Vivian Campbell is, and that's not by accident.

    • @SaySomethingWorthHearing
      @SaySomethingWorthHearing Месяц назад

      @@becauseiwasinverted5222 Most guitar players young and old have heard of Yngwie, but couldn't tell you the name of a single song of his, but most could name Holy Diver and Last in line for Dio songs. One said, "Look what I can do all song, every song." and the other wrote great, memorable songs and solos. Impressive, but not memorable-even after 22 solo albums. Vivian only played on 3 Dio albums and the first two, at least, are legendary rock albums. As a guitar player myself, I'll take Vivian's phrasing, note selection and understanding of melody any day before Yngwie's show and tell music. Both take skill, but only one knows how to write a song that will be remembered for decades.

    • @becauseiwasinverted5222
      @becauseiwasinverted5222 Месяц назад

      @@SaySomethingWorthHearing I don't know, it has not been my experience to see a player who can't name at least a couple tracks from the first 3 albums. Nor the experience of the thousands of Yngwie clones with scalloped strats who choose to emulate him over any Vivian or Nuno. Yngwie's not my favorite guitarist either but to dismiss a catalog like his as mere repetitive flash, let alone over guys who were either one-hit-wonders or largely ridealongs in other people's bands, is selling him short. In fact near anyone who's worked with him is adamant he is a brilliant musician. Or was, anyway. Before...this.

    • @SaySomethingWorthHearing
      @SaySomethingWorthHearing Месяц назад

      @@becauseiwasinverted5222 As someone who's played guitar for nearly 40 years, played in rock bands, who saw Yngwie live on the Rising Force tour and who's only met one person in my life who has a scalloped-fretboard guitar, I guess we've just had different experiences. Yes, he's made a lot of albums and yes, he plays a lot of notes, but as a guitar player who greatly admires his technical skills, he can't, or never has, touched the phrasing, style and mass appeal of not just the guitar work, but the songwriting of guys like Eddie, Vivian Campbell, Jake E. Lee and Nuno. That's why on hard rock and classic rock radio, you'll almost never hear an Yngwie song, but you'll hear the songwriting and lead guitar work of all three of those guys plus many more because their work has resonated with so many more people. If that weren't true, then those stations would be putting Yngwie in their rotations regularly. Unlike Yngwie's instrumental efforts, Eddie's instrumentals and intros like Eruption and Spanish Fly are legendary and still heard on rock radio while Ynwie's entire collection mostly sits on the shelf collecting dust. Yngwie does his thing very well. It just happens to be that his thing doesn't remotely have the broad appeal to both guitarists and the general public as the players who can not only play well, but who also know how to write melodies, riffs, phrasing and songs that are being played on the the radio decades later. Nuno could shred up and down the neck similarly to Yngwie if he practiced his melodic and harmonic minor scales for 5 minutes, but in 22 albums, Yngwie hasn't created a single solo that combines incredible phrasing, note selection and technical skill as the solo for Get the funk out and he's never written a single riff/groove anywhere remotely as catchy as something like He man woman hater and many others because he's mainly just writing chord progressions to solo over instead of writing great songs. Big difference. That's why his songs are not memorable to the masses. Any shredder can write a song and shred over it, but not many can write a song that has mass appeal while getting huge respect from the guitar community. Agree to disagree.

I’ve never seen a guitarist get as much out of a guitar as Trey Anastasio. As far as live performances go he is in my opinion the best in the business right now next to Scott Murawski. I tend to agree. When someone is truly great at something, a little humility buys them a ton of fans, but when someone's entire persona is 'Look at me. I'm the greatest!" and you know he believes it, it's repulsive. To me, he's like the Steven Seagal of shred. Nuno has way more interesting and melodic riffs and solos and is also 10x as humble. Michael Jordan was one of, if not, the best who ever played the game, but he never acted like it. He was confident, but not arrogant. Big difference.

    I love YJM’s playing. I’ve incorporated (stolen) many of his Yngwieisms into my own playing. I have tickets to the Dallas show this year……
    Having said that, I think he’s putting the cart before the horse here. The songs are obviously secondary to HIM and his playing. The songs are almost an afterthought.
    Contrasted with Eddie Van Halen, where the songs were of equal or MORE importance than his own playing.
    Maybe I’m being too critical. I’ll definitely enjoy the show. I just think a little more attention to the little things would help. Maybe less pick kicking and more tempo.
    But who am I? He’s up there and BEEN up there for decades and is still doing it. And I’M PAYING to see HIM. So I guess I’ll have a Coke and smile and STFU.
