CLEVELAND BROWNS VS. HOUSTON TEXANS INSTANT REACTION: CJ Stroud is LEGIT; Joe Flacco is still human

  • This was flat out embarrassing, no other way to put it.
The Cleveland Browns were 2.5 point favorites heading into the AFC Wild Card playoff game against the Houston Texans, but got boat raced out of NRG Stadium. CJ Stroud outplayed Joe Flacco as the rookie carved up the Browns #1 defense like a Thanksgiving turkey.
Kareem Hunt scored 2 first half TDs, but Stroud was on fire, throwing 3 first half TDs, and Flacco threw back-to-back pick-6s to the Texans defense as the game got out of hand.
The Browns had every chance to stop the Texans offense but it was to no avail, as the better team on the field will march on to the next round of the playoffs.
At the end of the day, the lights were too bright for Kevin Stefanski's squad, which overcame so much this season, but it wasn't enough in the long run.
From ESPN's preview of the game:
"C.J. Stroud and the rest of Houston’s rookies started a group chat soon after the draft to discuss their goals.
“And we were like, ‘Man, we’re going to be the foundation that changes this thing around,’ and lo and behold, that’s ... what came to be true,” Stroud said.
And it happened much quicker than most anyone predicted for the Texans (10-7), who will return to playoffs for the first time since 2019 when they host Cleveland (11-6) in the wild-card round Saturday.
Stroud, the second overall pick, is the only rookie starting quarterback to make the playoffs this season, and the 22-year-old will face off against the oldest QB in the postseason in Cleveland’s Joe Flacco, who turns 39 three days after the game.
Stroud will face the Browns for the first time. He missed Houston’s 36-22 loss to them on Dec. 24 while recovering from a concussion. The Texans were also missing rookie defensive end Will Anderson Jr., the No. 3 pick in the draft, and linebacker Blake Cashman in that game.
Cleveland knows it will be a challenge to contain Stroud, who has thrown for 4,108 yards with 23 touchdowns.
“He’s awesome,” Browns coach Kevin Stefanski said. “I remember watching him early because we had some crossover tape and getting ready to play Baltimore. I know ... that was his first game, and I think even in that game, you saw some plays and some throws where you knew right away that kid was really, really talented.”

This is a whole different team when Stroud is the QB. Some fans didn't consider that. Also, some were looking at Joe Flacco's 300 + games and 2 TDS. But, wasn't looking at the the equal ints he had. He was too slow for the blitz and the defense gave up points. It's really that simple. Stroud played like a proven veteran too.

There's no magic, just skill, hard work, unity and humility. The injuries and all the other factors that would have ruled out even having a winning season were always against the Browns. Flacco gave you a chance to compete but it wasn't ever all on him. You knew he would throw interceptions but it was OK as long as you were winning. Now many are turning on Flacco. C.J. The Browns looked slow and old in comparison to the Texans. Their receivers ran by our defensive backs like they were standing still. The defensive backs were either confused, misaligned or just beaten by younger, faster receivers. The Browns offensive line-OMG. Exposed is an understatement.
Their offensive line completely stuffed our defensive line. The Texans just looked like a younger, faster superior team all around. The good thing is all of the Browns faults were clearly exposed and we know exactly what needs to be done.
I hope that we don’t lose sight about how special this season was for the Browns and the fans. It truly was a magical season. Lady Luck was on our side and we got a lot of joy out of this season. We had so many devastating injuries and the fact we were able to overcome them and had the success the Browns had was remarkable.
We won so many games this year we had no business of winning. How many times can you win on a wing and a prayer? We did it a lot! It was phenomenal sometimes and fun and exciting. So please don’t let this loss make you lose sight of how amazing this season was for the Brownies.
We need to appreciate and be grateful for a season that was way more successful that it had any right to be. Be grateful that the Browns finally got some magic fairy dust sprinkled on them. As we know that has not been the case for a long time. Celebrate a wacky, magical, fun season.

Texans season ticket holder here - I met a lot of Browns fans at the game yesterday - and every single one of them was great - both before, during and after the game! I came to say 1) y'all may have lost the game Saturday, but no one can deny the Browns are a great team. 2) The Cleveland Browns fans are truly phenomenal fans - through good times and bad - the dog pound stays true. 3) The respect and good-sportsmanship you have shown over the past 24 hours should be a lesson for all sports fans. Thank you. We'll meet again and may the best team win. Cleveland Rocks!

Myles Garrett isnt the only one that plays the defensive line. You can compare him to whoever you want but if the other players aren't contributing don't put the blame on him. Everybody was pumping them up if you don't think so look at all the press they were giving them. They basically anointed them to the super bowl but .Im not happy they didn't advance but I would have liked to see what it would have been to have Chubb back and a healthy line and team. But I'm still in the opinion that Kevin needs to give the play calling to someone else.

Houston fans thank you for all the draft capital the last two seasons. And the next season. Taking the quitter Deshaun off our books so we can invest in other players helped build the Texans this year. The tens of millions the Texans ate in 2021 to sit him was worth every penny to get all the picks and hamstring a conference opponent with $200 million in 2024 dead cap for an injury prone quitter who has as many playoff victories as your last playoff quarterback. Karma.

And yes we came out with the same old game plan but Houston made wrinkles from what they did when we played them a couple weeks ago
I was afraid they would do the same old scheme and b******* and figure we beat them last time. We'll beat him the same way. They was not ready for the simplest things. CJ did not have to work hard. He didn't get sacked. They didn't even really stuff to run that much
The Browns did not expect a lot of things. That's why they got beat the hell up on five or six long play for over 35 or 40 yards. Plus. You're not prepared when that happened

Flacco throws picks when he has to gamble. Stefanski couldn’t get the receivers open all night. The tight ends played good because they were either quick slants or check downs. Stefanski didn’t trust his tackles so he pulled the tight end in to protect a lot this game and took away a receiver to push down the field taking a target away from Flacco. You have to be able to scheme your protection and make adjustments without compromising your offense. Only having 3 receivers isn’t going to win you games. The entire coaching staff and players fell on their face. Even if Flacco doesn’t throw those 2 picks and they score touchdowns the score is still 31-28
