Fish will be fish… dogs will be dogs… heck ants will be ants and all try to workout the natural order of who is in charge… but usually when the choices have been made everyone chills out and does their part.
I’m new to discus have had them about a month had 5 which was expensive around 120$ each. One died not sure exactly why, but now I have 4 and I don’t want to add more and start the order over again!? They are about 4 to 5” I feel like there is one main guy who loves to eat and I really never see the others eat much I see them pecking at the driftwood. But they all swim together in the late evening but during the day they seem to chase each other and stick to their own areas. I have a very well established tank with nice aquadecor background and sand temp is 85 degrees. Any advice i greatly appreciate it
@@larrybrastad6874 you need an odd # of fish. 7 would be a perfect Number. This creates a distraction that will reshape the environment of your tank. You will have a few weeks of instability but it will correct itself. Do the work by moving a few pieces of decor around. I wish you success. If you need anything contact me.
If you have a well-cycled tank No. I would however be very diligent about daily 25%% water changes for the first several weeks. This will ensure your water parameters stay where they need to be.
Moving things around and finding a sweet spot in the tank for everyone to get along is not that easy. Sometimes I find it best to do as you said in the video and put all the fish in the tank at the same time. The more the fish the less fighting.
Will this happen with tank mates? I recently started keeping discus. I put them on a previously stablished planted tank that had Corydoras and Neon and Rumy nosed tetras. The discus don’t mind the Corys but chase the tetras all day. After two days I moved all the tetras to another tank as I though the stress wouldn’t be good for either part. Any recommendations for that scenario?
I have never had good luck with Neon Tetras. Larger Cardinals with give you the same look but no chasing. I went through this myself several years ago. Find larger more mature Cardinals and you will have a beautiful mixture. Good luck.
This really helps. My "Big Blue" looks like he is biting my new "Tiger." We have "Tiny" as well. She was first, then we added Big Blue. Tiny had been laying eggs but has had none hatch. We just introduced Tiger into our 125 aquarium, and Big Blue won't leave him alone. Tiger is showing signs of stress. The two fish our the same size. Tiger is eating a little and his most of the day. It seems when I come into the room Big Blue starts picking and biting Tiger. Please help! Should I get another Discus? Four would be my max since I have other fish in the tank.
@AQUATIC CONCEPTS "Bringing Water To Life" I'm currently in the same dilemma. I got a fry box and somehow they keep escaping the box. I got a better one and hopefully they'll survive
its so crazy how all the fish kinda fight for that top spot kinda in the tank and sometimes the rankings will change and such lol Is there a way we can stop this or is this just how fish are? lol
@@aquaticconceptsbringingwaterto yes they are discus I have like 10. One used to be first in line when I would feed now he doesn’t even care when I feed. Another one used to hide all the time and now he’s back in the ranking. Lol
I once had a group of around 6 once perhaps should have got more, anyway they were on offer at a fish store, they were extremely aggressive and attacked the weakest one until it died :( this continued until only 1 fish remained and we think he died of loneliness 🙄 ironic...
Great video my friend. I like the idea of putting all your Discus in a New Tank at the same time.
It is truly the best way. The more the fish and the larger the tank the less fighting.
This is always a problem for me. I have used several techniques that have worked all of which you mentioned. Thanks.
Just do the best you can. Nature will do the rest.
Wie immer gute Tipps für Diskushalter! 👍
Not sure what that says, but I hope it was positive thanks for watching. Please subscribe.
Great video as usual.
Good insight into Discus behavior.
Fish will be fish… dogs will be dogs… heck ants will be ants and all try to workout the natural order of who is in charge… but usually when the choices have been made everyone chills out and does their part.
That is exactly right. Do your part and let the fish work out who is in charge.

Great video and tips! Thanks!
If you add 8-10 discus at the same time, would you get an ammonia spike?
If you have a well-cycled tank No. I would however be very diligent about daily 25%% water changes for the first several weeks. This will ensure your water parameters stay where they need to be.
This is an age old problem. These fish are gentle for thew most part but there is always that pecking order
Which will work itself out over time. Keep the tank healthy and the rest will take care of itself!

PERFECT!
I just move things around in the tank. Works every time.
Just as I teach here.

@aquaticconceptsbringingwaterto Yes. I have the 3 Discus, 2 Bala Sharks and 3 Angel's. They all get along but Big Blue won't leave Tiger alone.

What happened to your odd colored discus pair spawn? Did they end up having babies? What color were they?
They did but the fry were very poor and now looking for another pair.

That is Discus behavior the first year as they mature. They will grow out of it.
I got 3 in a 40 gallon tank so the first one wont be lonely but since they got use to the tank the first one has been bullying both of them. 🤔🤷🏾
Th tank is way to small unless you just have a breeding pair. That is why they are fighting.
discus in s nutshell
mildly cheesed off pancakes that need hot bath temp water and have a fit if you are 3.5 seconds too late for a water change

It can happen!
Pecking order sounds like prison.
It can look like that lol!
so basically just let it play out and not do anything? lol
Yes! Unless they are beating each other up so badly one or both are getting hurt. At that point you have to separate them. Let me know!
