The best song the Stones ever recorded! Brilliantly, the seductive rhythm and melody make you want to dance, but the song is hella DARK. It's about our complicity with the personification of evil. Similar themes can be found in Gimme Shelter and Brown Sugar, two songs that a lot of people know but rarely read the lyrics. Try those next. They're great songs, not quote as brilliant as Sympathy but well worth checking out.
Although it can’t compare to the Stones version, the GnR’s was perfect and one of the best uses of music to end a movie with, this and Pixie’s Where is my Mind in Fight Club.
Love this song, it's a rock classic. The Stones were always on the edge with their music, and were always the funkiest of the classic rock bands. Absolutely love this song. It's from their Beggers Banquet album, one of my favorite albums ever. Street Fighting Man and Jig Saw Puzzle from the album are also great listens.
That entire album is amazing. I've always said if I had only two albums to take on a desert isle it would be Beggers Banquet and Music From Big Pink by The Band. Both are incredible.@@NickyFury255
Touchy yes Your reaction was correct Scary Most people find it hard to see because it’s hidden in a great song But you saw it all right away Good for you
A history lesson with a message: Don't blame evil things on a "devil" and take responsibility for your actions. Have sympathy for the devil and don't blame the devil for everything you do yourself. The nature of the devil's game is you choose to be evil and the devil doesn't cause it. That's what the name of the song references and the message.
In some ways, i like the Blood Sweat and Tears version of Symphony for the Devil/ Sympathy for the Devil a little better. Maybe its the use of the horn section or their use of dynamics. Or maybe i had that version first
People loved to blame some supernatural force for the shortcomings of humanity. We commit vile atrocities and then cry the devil , so if you throw all the blame - have some curtesy for these devil you blame for your crimes. I’ve loved this for 50 years . Hope you enjoyed ☮️
You were blameless in your ways from the day you were created till wickedness was found in you. Through your widespread trade you were filled with violence, and you sinned. So I drove you in disgrace from the mount of God, and I expelled you, guardian cherub, from among the fiery stones. Your heart became PROUD on account of your beauty, and you corrupted your wisdom because of your splendor. So I THREW you to the Earth; I made a spectacle of you before kings. By your many sins and dishonest trade you have desecrated your sanctuaries. So I made a fire come out from you, and it consumed you, and I reduced you to ashes on the ground in the sight of all who were watching. - Ezekiel 28:15-18
Hi Ace! sorry had to pause it again heh cuz wanted to say YESSS that IS exactly IT! "Hypnotized" "Mesmerized" "Trance" those are ALL the best way to describe what truly genius music does to well at least me & i have heard others describe it in that way as well A LOT heh so YAY i am happy ya said it tho then i guess changed your mind heh but yea when i am watchin reactions its kinda like when ya are watchin a show or movie & ya like talk back to the TV well ha for some reason i do that with these reaction thingies as well so thats why i pause cuz like i need to get it out right there & then i can try & stop tho if it bothers ya...k goin back IN!!! Weeeee OH & i luvd when ya said "This is really really deep so deep that im scared" heh that is awesome **RockNRollBaby** Woo Woo
This song wasn’t as controversial as it could have been since you had to buy the album, know a friend who had the album or listen to FM ‘underground’ radio to hear it. Big cities were the only places that had FM rock radio.
A lot of historical knowledge is required to understand the lyrics. in 1968 the Rolling Stones assumed the majority of listeners understood the references, and they did. Now of course, due to the focus of education to train obedient workers to serve the elite uniparty/state, to quote Borat, "Not so much."
I saw One Direction 8 or 9 years ago with my girlfriend's daughter and her friends at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City. It was 115 degree heat index that day, but surprisingly I really enjoyed the show. It really ended up being a great show. About two years before that, when she was turning 12, she was so enamored of One Direction and in particular Harry Styles that she wanted a mock wedding to him for her birthday party, so her mom and I did all this stuff and set it up, got one of those lifelike cardboard cutouts of Harry Styles, etc. And then she wrote her own ridiculously funny melodramatic wedding vows, and her friends were the bridesmaids and so forth, and we bought several bottles of fake champagne. I ruled on Donkey Kong and Space Invaders at the arcades back in the day. 😅
Ace , No problem were you paused it wasn`t into the solo yet , its when reactors pause during a solo that's bad , Have you done any BAND-MAID reactions yet if not check out there song Domination , official live video ,
The devil is basically saying of all the sins he has done, man is not that innocent either, man has conspired with me, and has done far worse things, so please have some sympathy on me..
Thank you for another great reaction ! It doesn’t seem to matter how many times I’ve listened to this song, it always is mesmerizing since the lyrics are very impactful , even though I’m a nonbeliever of such a supernatural being as this.
Dude ya seem cool to me dont be dissin on yourself & i for one enjoy hearing all your thoughts & what nots & all so just enjoy all the fantastical music & keep just being yourself hmm which i guess if part of being yourself always includes you dissin you then well forget what i said up there ha i dunno man but that just kinda made me sad & want to give ya a great big **PixieHugz** so anyway i think ya **Rock** OH & i agree with something i saw someone else comment somewhere ya have great guitar fingers ha do ya play? Awesome reaction!
You must listen to classical if you aren't used to music making you need to move. That's cool but dang you're missing out. Check out some older blues - Muddy Waters or John Lee Hooker or Albert King. Almost all of it will get you dancing.
Most follow Satan & Not Jesus Christ... Even the believers in Christ as full payment for their sins. That's why Paul wrote work out your salvation with fear and trembling... First off He said "Work out" not for because once we put our faith in Christ finished work we are saved till the day of redemption aka rapture... But it will be a fearful thing to stand in front of God which knows everything about you & all the opportunities we had to live for him and see others saved and yet we chose satan and the world.....
Lucifer is the eternal Loser . Whereas , Jesus gave His Life for the sins of the world and freely offers His Gift of Everlasting Life to all who simply believe in Him for it . Little children can easily understand and believe in Him for His doubtless Guarantee of Everlasting Life instantly having irrevocable Life at that moment (John 3:16 & Ephesians 2:8-9) . Cuz He cannot lie to the little ones , unlike the father of all lies (Satan) . Best news , ever .
“Pilate” is a reference to Pontius Pilate, the Roman official that presided over the trial of Jesus and ordered his crucifixion.
It's way to easy to wash your hands of it 🤔
Pilate was the Roman governor of Judea
No shit
Correction, Pilate didn't order Jesus' crucifixion, he left it to the people to decide, hence "washed his hands" of the injustice.
A whole world history lesson in a song.
For me, THE best of a huge number of Rolling Stones songs, brilliant.
The Richards Jagger songwriting team was really good back then.
They did a lot of covers mostly old blues tunes ,great band one of a kind.
Ace, this was also the tune for the closing credits to ‘ Interview with a Vampire ‘ movie starring Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt, Kirstin Dunst

Guns And Roses' version was used as the ending of "Interview With The Vampire".

Another Great song by the Rolling Stones 😎☮️
It is strangely appropriate that you listened to Sympathy For The Devil while wearing a shirt that says No Regrets.
Touchy yes
Your reaction was correct
Scary
Most people find it hard to see because it’s hidden in a great song
But you saw it all right away
Good for you
Mick gave you a history lesson on the most evil throughout history.
Pilot was the one who condemed Jesus Crist, I thought I saw that as a qustion

Yeah, this is so deep that you have to look down to see up. Keep up with the great tunes.
Glad you picked the version with the bongos. Its the best❤
If we are going to blame him for everything we decide to do we should have some sympathy for the position we put him in.
In some ways, i like the Blood Sweat and Tears version of Symphony for the Devil/ Sympathy for the Devil a little better. Maybe its the use of the horn section or their use of dynamics. Or maybe i had that version first
"I Did Not Know A Solo Was Coming! Please Forgive Me! I Deserve All The Hate!!!"....Ha-Ha-Ha-Ha-Ha!! That's alright brother, you're forgiven!!
Guns and Rosed did a bit of a heavier version of this song and it was showcased in the movie Interview With A Vampire.
OMG I have always loved this one - thank you! There is a song titled "Pleased to Meet You" but no relation to the Stones classic.
Lucifer was saying, "I dunno why they blame me for all the evil done in mankind's history..They would've done it even if I hadn't been there"
You caught it at the very beginning of the solo. It’s not like you were halfway through the solo and paused. You’re good.
People blame a made up devil for all the things we do ourselves. Summed up in that last line….”I’ll tell you one time, you’re to blame”.
Last action hero swarzeneger got it playing in the caddy while he wasting everybody

The best song by the RS! 😎
Saw them in 89, the opening band was Living Colour, you should check out Cult of Personality, great reaction.

The devil made me drink it

And that's relevant how?
Maybe the real Lucifer is the friends we made along the way. My favorite part of the song is when he Lucifered all over those guys.

This song needs to be the theme song for the democratic socialist party of Biden

woops Pilate
You want something groovy from the Stones? Try: MISS YOU & EMOTIONAL RESCUE.
I'd add 'Harlem Shuffle' to the list.
@jimmcevers9443 yeah or my #1 UNDERCOVER OF THE NIGHT. I loved the beat. Charlie kills it on drums. Which is why I chose the other 2.
This guy laughed at Alone again naturally! He said it sounded like a Christmas song.
Kindof sucks when the listener doesn't really know history very well.
