      I feel ArcSys has truly fallen down the path of depravity and greed. Despite my comment asking “What if I wanted it”, I never cared about Strive on Switch, and I truly think that ArcSys has forgotten their old ways and what made them such a goated developer.

      @jngo172 are you being fr rn? How is getting a port out equal to becoming greedy and depraved? That's so fucking stupid. Obviously they want the most amount of people they can to be able to enjoy the game, and (while not common) some people do just own a switch, it's definitely the least expensive between current consoles or a pc.

    - All current DLCs included in one neat package
    - All modes intact
    - 60FPS
    - Rollback netcode
    - Previous examples, like Dragon Ball FighterZ, show ArcSys ports can run well on Switch
    - Ability to play on the go
    - A chance to expand the series further, especially toward the casual player base
    - Most importantly, a LOT of people only have a Switch and not other consoles or PC. So, are they just not allowed to want this game? Even then, I know people with multiple consoles who still prefer the simplicity and portability of the Switch.
    Dude, if you truly want the series to flourish, this video... this very idea shouldn’t have even crossed your mind! I saw one of your replies where you said you "heard" the Switch has a large user base in Japan. As an avid gamer (and a gaming RUclipsr, no less), that’s not something you’d hear-it’s more of a "known fact" at this point!
    Local multiplayer is still thriving in Japan, where people often meet up during breaks, after school or work, or while waiting for commutes to play games together. Every time I visit Japan, I see groups of teenagers playing their Switches at meeting points in town or businessmen gaming on public benches after work. NOT EVERYONE has to play online all the time! Sure, no cross-play is a shame, but it’s not a deal-breaker, especially in Japan. Besides, it's just another option that offers more ways for people to play. If someone is serious about competing globally, they’ll get the game on another console.
    It sounds like you’re worried that the Switch version might tarnish the series’ reputation due to a dip in quality, but your take comes across as narrow-minded, biased, and a bit gatekeeping. Either way, I think most of the comments on this video should give you a clearer picture of who really wants this port.
    BONUS: It's incorrect to say "would OF." It should be "would HAVE." The "'ve" in "would've," "could've," and "should've" comes from the word "have."

      Well, DUH.
      You wanted to know who would want this game on the Switch, and you even acknowledged that there’s a large user base in Japan-so I pointed that out. There are plenty of Japanese players who would want this game, even if the rest of the world didn’t care for it (which clearly isn’t the case, as we can see from the comment section).
      You need to look at the bigger picture. It’s NOT ALL ABOUT YOU, especially when you claim you want the game to succeed and reach a wider audience, but then fail to acknowledge those very people. And this is even more significant when those players are part of one of the largest user bases, in the same country as the game developer, no less.

    If it makes you feel any better, while I'm not a Strive developer specifically, I am a fighting game developer, and I can pretty safely say the process of developing a character is almost certainly bottlenecked by the animation and not by the programming. Whereas the Switch port requires only programming and no new animation. So I doubt it would affect how fast they can make new characters
    The wifi problems are probably mostly right though. And in terms of market, they made Switch ports before so I'm sure there's enough of a market that they deemed it worth their time

    • @StarryArrii
      @StarryArrii 2 месяца назад +1

      yeah, the vast majority of the programming of a character would basically just be inputting numbers and hitbox sizes as long as you've made a proper framework. the only part that would actually require new code is specific character behavior. programming is honestly the easy part of making a game compared to art, animation, voiceovers, music, etc.

    • @owencmyk
      @owencmyk 2 месяца назад +2

      @@StarryArrii For fighting games I wouldn't say programming is the easy part because the game systems are so complicated, and if your game is good you need to design with rollback in mind which is quite difficult.
      But you're right about the rest. Once you've got the systems in place each new character is a lot easier. And to some extent, each new GAME is a lot easier since in the case of Arcsys they reuse the same engine and framework from previous titles.
      As for hitboxes and hurtboxes, often developers will have specific tools for modifying those things so they don't have to manually input numbers

    • @StarryArrii
      @StarryArrii 2 месяца назад +2

      To add to this, both the customer base switch and the capacity for games ports, are vastly understimated for how bulky and consistent they really are because more often than not ppl use the worst examples possible for comparassion, switch is one of the best selling consoles on nitendo with a consistent rise on the player base every year, thats it more ppl owning dif versions of the switch
      And about the if the port will run badly, it will be kinda of a hit or miss because a game like strive would absolutely be able to run on switch with no problems, save for conections issues because nitendo online servers in americas and EU are trash, of course if needed there might be some graphics down grade but judging by what strive already looks like, it wont look like the game is running on a potato im a sure, take MK per example, a hype realistic graphic with tons of complex effects and redering, the switch port looks like ASS and pales in comparassion to the graphics of the PC or the PS version, but the game runs just fine both in local and online

Additionally, its likely ported by a small additional team. Doesnt need art or desgn to stop working on new cxharacters etc. Contrarian for the sake of contrarian. Myself, I want it to play with my kid. And complaining ArcSys could put the resources into a new character makes no sense., these companies have several teams responsible for different tasks

  • @gaminglakitu
    @gaminglakitu 2 месяца назад +7

    Honestly I think this arguement is kinda bad faith all around imo. First, many people have asked for this on Switch, including me, for a while. I'm just disappointed it didn't come sooner since I already got it on PS. Second, the entire game is $60 base, but it has everything from Seasons 1-3, so you're actually getting a really good discount on the game if you compare it with the Daredevil edition on other systems, so its not rebuyying everything all over again for $100+, its everything right then and there. Third, this didn't take away dev time from the characters or modes, because the people working on this are not the same people as the core team. This is being made by people at ArcSys who are there specifically to work on tech stuff, so they aren't taking away from other dev time, also not to mention that it will probably run at full speed perfectly considering they ported FighterZ and DNF to Switch and those turned out perfectly well. And fourth, you say that the Wifi Warriors are going to destroy connections, and that just isn't true. I am someone who plays on Wifi and my wifi barely ever dips to hinder my gameplay in my games, even those with delay based netcode. I think it just depends on the area someone is in because some people just live in an area with kinda bad connection, and its not their fault, its more so a problem about how our internet is routed in the US. Also the way you say rollback doesn't work if the system someone is playing on is a much lesser power one than a system you're playing on AND the opponents system is too weak to play it, then Switch should be completely ok because then all Switches will share the same power level, so there can't be any problems with connections there. And not to mention that ArcSys wouldn't release this game on Switch if they couldn't get it to be full speed. Its the same with all of their other previous ports. Anyways sorry for the ramble, just thought I would point all of these out

    • @Raynfgc
      @Raynfgc  2 месяца назад +1

      I wouldn't of thought switch would be the go to console for a 2d fighter (excluding smash) it's kinda like call of duty black ops on the Wii, like yeah it exists but people who play or want to play it will just buy it on a ps or box, while yes it has the potential to make arcsys money and introduce a new untapped audience I worry it won't be the best. However despite that I do hope it does well and gets more people into strive

    I'm gonna be honest, I thought Arc System Works would've waited until the release of Nintendo's next console to port Strive into it, but it actually kind of makes sense for them to port the game to the current Switch, we still have no clue when Nintendo's next console is going to come out, the Switch itself has sold over 140 million units, so there's a huge potential audience there, and I think ArcSys is probably going to release this port to tie-in with the release of the Guilty Gear anime, which may raise some interest in the series on people who haven't played it.
    Not to mentioned that porting fighting games into weaker hardware has been a thing since fighting games became popular in the '90s, consoles like the Super NES and SEGA Genesis weren't as powerful as Capcom's CPS or SNK's NeoGeo, but they received ports of those games, and the Super NES even got a port of Street Fighter Alpha 2. The same thing happened with portable consoles, the original Game Boy got ports of games such as Mortal Kombat, Killer Instinct, Real Bout Special and Battle Arena Toshinden. And if we talk about more "recent" portables, the PS Vita got a port of Marvel vs. Capcom 3 and the 3DS received a port of Street Fighter IV as a launch title. The important thing for developers is that their games reach a wider audience.
    And I also have to add that the Switch has received a lot of fighting game ports, Capcom released Ultra SFII HD, SF 30th anniversary collection and Fighting Collection 1 & 2, SNK released games such as Samurai Shodown '19, KOF XIII and SvC Chaos, and there's plenty of other ArcSys games like BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle, Dragon Ball FighterZ and DNF Duel. I'm expeting the Switch 2 to receive games like Street Fighter 6, KoF XV and Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves

    Arc Sys is a developer that can get seemingly demanding looking games running on lesser hardware, I'm not worried about that. People forget that Xrd, looking as good as it does, was running in UE3 at a rock solid 60fps while everyone else could barely keep their games running a consistent 30fps at the time. So this game is going to run just fine. Strive also probably has the best netcode of any fighting game ever made, because I have tons of friends who play on Wifi, and it's perfectly playable.
    What kills any desire for me to recommend this version of the game though is that there's no cross-play. Cross-play is pretty much the only reason why Strive is the game that most of my friends play together. Xrd Rev 2, Central Fiction, & Under Night 2 are fantastic games that I love, but I'm on PC and about half of my friends are on different consoles.

    Yeah it's probably easier and cheaper to get the dlc i dont have right now, and I think I've even seen them go on sale. But i want this weird Switch Version for convenience.
    I am curious about how the player base will be on Switch though because it varies weirdly.
    I played P4A on Switch and it's pretty rare to find a match. Meanwhile I've always found lobbies and players open in BBTag and DBFighterz.
